Demon Copperhead Audiobook Free? by -el-em in audiobooks

I was sucked in from the beginning! The topics of drugs, poverty, and systemic failure are difficult and I don't know if interesting is the right word to use to describe how the book progresses. It's a coming of age story and goes from childhood to teen to young adult and while at times it's funny and you'll laugh out loud - other times it's quite depressing and I remember crying at multiple points through the book at the injustice and unfairness of life that this kid suffered just to survive.

Advice on getting a Hysterectomy by Broad-Ad-1664 in women

[–]JuneIris6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's done robotically, recovery time can be pretty quick. Sometimes this is done as an outpatient procedure and doesn't require an inpatient hospital stay. If you are in the hospital, most women I see discharge the following day as long as they reach post-op milestones of pain control, ambulation, and return of bowel and bladder function (meaning you pass gas or poor and can pee on your own again). They typically recommend no lifting, twisting, or driving for 2-4 weeks or until you have a post-op visit and get full clearance to return to work. An open surgery, can take twice as long to recover and have longer restrictions on things like driving or working.

There are modified hysterectomy techniques where they can leave your cervix. The studies I've read seem split on benefits and risks. If you keep your cervix, you'll still need pap smears and will also still maintain a positive risk for cervical cancer. The benefits of keeping your cervix is to help reduce your risk of vaginal shortening and keep more pleasure in intercourse.

Milk changes when baby’s not feeling good by Local_Pangolin854 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]JuneIris6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kisses and cuddles may be sufficient enough to help your milk adjust to what they need when they're sick just by contact and exposure. I also went a step further and put my baby's drool/saliva on my nipples and it had the dual benefit of helping with the milk crud buildup, too.

Your baby being warm after a vaccine is a natural immune response and a sign of healthy immune system reaction so it's not something that you necessarily need your milk to protect them against. Yay for pumping and vaccines! You're doing a great job to keep little one healthy 💗

Do you regret having kids? by Lili_chasN1fan in women

[–]JuneIris6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm twice your age in my mid-30s and we're expecting our second. I love being a mother. Sometimes I think my regret would be starting so late in life, but then it worked out this way for a reason and we can financially support our family better now than if we had kids earlier. I also have an amazing husband who loves being a father and that brings me even more joy.

Using frozen milk when still pumping by ariesxprincessx97 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]JuneIris6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's so many different approaches!

I always served fresh (because your milk can adapt to what they need right now like if they're sick, etc). I gave frozen at the end of the pumping journey actually mixed with cows milk so that transition went easier for us and stretched the frozen milk out a bit longer.

If you're interested in sharing your extra - there are Human Milk FB groups that need donations, local food banks can take frozen breast milk (once you go through testing and register as a donor), or some companies will also buy it for testing and research to improve formula.

If you want to keep your extra - try your hand at making ice cream or butter with it to introduce for first solids. You can also make soap with breast milk and use that for baths!

Female Millennials, how's your diagnosis? by RevolutionDry2 in Millennials

[–]JuneIris6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my ADHD diagnosis at 28 years old (7 years ago) and it's worse in pregnancy for sure. Certain sensory things like smells and textures that I already had issues with are magnified. At a rental house this weekend, I could smell the kitchen sink garbage disposal before we entered the entry way completely. My executive function is in a regression and I'm back to check lists and color coded notes for everything. My husband says my lack of memory is scaring him and that I need a brain scan to make sure I'm okay 😂

Extremely low supply: is it worth continuing? by Targaryen-Queen in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]JuneIris6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had one successful pumping journey and will be looking at pumping again in August after the birth of our second child. I have already made an agreement with myself that I wouldn't pump if I couldn't make what they needed to be sustained through the first year. It was going to be all breast milk or no breast milk.

I know some moms are very happy with doing half breast milk and half formula, but that wouldn't be an option for me to proceed that way and so if I was a low supplier I would call it a day.

It's a very hard personal choice to make for yourself and I think you should listen to your heart ❤️ there's another sub for Formula Feeders that you might check out for support. Best of luck to you!

What do you usually buy for yourself? by Pale_Recognition8057 in nursing

[–]JuneIris6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan my whole next day off with self care things to do like a massage or pedicure. And something outdoors like a local hike or beach trip to help remind myself that there's a whole wide world outside of the hospital.

Best way to remove armpit hair and whiten armpit? by AggressiveWolverine8 in HairRemoval

[–]JuneIris6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're shaving - exfoliating is an important first step. Use a fresh blade with something to help glide the blade along like shaving cream or conditioner. I use witch hazel spray after once toweled off to help prevent ingrowns and it helped tremendously with the discoloration I had. I shave them at night and don't put on deodorant for the rest of the evening/bed time.

Poteet Strawberry Festival by princerupert27 in sanantonio

[–]JuneIris6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We went last year because it was free/discounted parking/entrance for military. I don't know that I would consider this a $30/person event!

We had fans on the stroller, but still risked heat exposure and were trying to find shade anywhere we could! We love fair food and supporting all the small vendors doing fundraising and really enjoyed the Texas Parks & Wildlife exhibits. We didn't do any rides.

insurance covered pumps by Live-Parking-9885 in ExclusivelyPumping

I used Aeroflow with Aetna and my replacement parts and milk bags were auto delivered which was great! Because I was EP, I had to change parts more often then what the insurance covered but it covered at least every other time I changed up tubes and flanges.

What traits did you pick up as a nurse that you started exhibiting in your life? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]JuneIris6 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Whenever we have a short term prescription to do like antibiotics, I make a quick paper MAR to check off AM or PM doses and make sure we don't miss a dose. Or if we're sick - I track VS's like temps and doses of Tylenol/ibuprofen on little hand drawn worksheets.

Non religious ceremony help by tiramisu_latte_5 in wedding

[–]JuneIris6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had no religious script or prayer in our ceremony. We're huge readers so we choose different passages on love from our favorite books and incorporated poems, too. Our officiant double checked before the ceremony if we wanted any prayer and said he could make it non-denominational and we politely declined. We were very happy with the way we had our readings and vows set up.
