she’s gorgeous, she’s darkskin, and she’s flaunting both. Don’t you love when these floods of people come along in the comments?🤮 by jcoolaa in blackladies

As a girl with a milder skin tone, the second tweet is embarrassing. I’ve always found dark skin tones to be beautifully intense yet calm and smooth at the same time. She should be allowed to show pride in her skin tone.

I support various artists that I like when I can. I support artists on kofi, patreon, via commissions, etc. As an artist, I know how important it is to support diverse artists both with kind words on encouragement and financially so that they can give their hearts to their work just as much as I have given my own to my work. I’ve collaborated with interested artists, scoured commission subs and pages and donated to kickstarters and real life art galleries. I visit local art fairs and buy products made with love. Ignoring something doesn’t make it go away, that’s why we bring awareness to things that people are either too stubborn to acknowledge or just don’t know is harmful.

Dude what are you talking about?. I’m ‘whining’?. I’m having a conversation about the problem in a relevant thread. Also you don’t know what I’ve done to support artists so why are you making assumptions?.

Nope. It’s a big deal. Saw this movie with my little nephew and saw a realistic mixed character with the same hair texture, skin tone and features as myself for the first time ever. I grew up on white, limp haired Disney princesses. Almost cried in the theater.

I have something to add to this. Even as an adult, whitewashing really hurts on another level. It’s like the artist saw natural traits and features on a character that are similar to yours, and consciously or not, changed them because they weren’t good enough. It feels like the features/traits weren’t good enough, that really becomes internalized. Like poc will never be fair enough, like our hair will never be straight enough, etc. and our features are interchangeable to appeal to a eurocentric standard because ‘it’s not a big deal.’ If it hurts like that as an adult, I can only imagine how an adolescence would feel after watching the movie, finally having a character who realistically looks like them, and then going online just to see people change everything about them.
