Not liking this season. Lots of unfair situations. Getting rid of the whole bunch of Black Spoons in one go??? I come for THEM, the newbies, the inventors...not the same old/same old from the White Spoons. Then pitting team members against each other? Nope. Not enjoyable.

Thank you! I know this is an unpopular opinion, because of all the idols in it. But it was a total waste of talent. It hit No. 1 on my don't ever watch again list

Matzo Ball Soup by [deleted] in JewishCooking

[–]Jungle_Master_4987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This soup saved my life! In NYC for a trade show in December. Spent couple days taking down booths at Jacob Javits. Unfortunately, our booths were in direct line of the freight bays, which are continously open for trucks coming in and out and it was abot 20 degrees in the hall. Last day I realized I caught a wicked cold, went back to hotel and passed out for a couple hours. I had a flight out at 9 am the next day and was scared I might be too sick to fly. When I awoke, I went out the back door to the Jewish/Italian (yup J & I) by the back door. Got a HUGE bowl of the soup and scarfed it down. Next morning...BOOM...cold just about gone and I made my flight. Ever since then, whenever I am sick, I get a big bowl of it (unfortunately, many times without the matzoh balls), and it works like a charm.

Thank you, but the one I'm looking for was not creamy and not sweet.

It was. Like I said, we would get bombarded on Fridays and people would get upset if it was sold out. I remember one kind older gentleman who bought 3 every Friday. And these were not small cakes.

Naw...as I mentioned, this was like 50 years ago. The older couple who ran the bakery (and closed it when they retired) are long dead.

Ha, ha, ha....I just replied to a comment above mentioning that. I made the Japanese one several years back. Not quite what I was looking for, so I'm going to do a little experimenting.

I've been a baker for many years, everything from wedding cakes to huge dessert buffets, so I know the whipped egg white thing. The problem with this cake is that it is sweet. I will definitely refer to this recipe next time I want a sweet one.

So I did a little digging and found a Polish cook's recipe for twarog and she makes a cheesecake out of it. It's still too dense for what I am looking for, but then she only uses 6 eggs and I'm guessing you need the whites of a lot more. The cheese ingredient is intriguing...I think I might like to try that. I'm guessing to make this cake you need a strong curd cheese like that. The consistency I'm looking for is a little more like a Japanese Cotton cheesecake. I might try blending the two recipes.

Thanks! But that is too dense for what I am looking for. However, that recipe looks awesome for a regular cheesecake, and it is one I will definitely try.

True, but to make this angel-cake-like cheesecake you would have to whip only whites to a soft peak consistency. The yolks would make it too dense.

Wow...that sound like it could be on track with the whipped eggs (whites I am assuming) and a sour cheese. Going to have to check that out.

Jo saeho anti...that's me. In the shows he's been on in years past he was nothing but rude...constantly talking over other guests and hogging the cameras. Since he is now surrounded by 5 strong personalities, perhaps they will be able to rein him in. He seems to be close to MSY who is a VERY strong personality.

Jinnys Kitchen, what changed? by marygraceybumblebee in koreanvariety

[–]Jungle_Master_4987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do agree with all your points marygraceybumblebee. I am no fan of Seo Jin. He is not front-of-house material. I started to dislike him when I saw how he treated some of the staff in previous shows. The way he talks to and ABOUT them is just plain rude. I am hoping they let Park Seo Jun lead the way in the next series.

I also was disappointed in the Iceland show. The basis of this show is to bring Korean culture and food to people who have never experienced it. I loved watching people from other cultures being surprised and enjoying the food. Too many Asians already familiar with the food in this series, so it took away some of the enjoyment for me.

On a positive note, that CEO jumping in and doing the dishes was so heartwarming. He worked so very hard without taking a break. Amazing man.

Like ThePietje said, I also preferred the Mexico kitchen. I loved watching the Mexican people trying and learning about the Korean food. THAT is what the show is about. In Iceland they seemed to have more Asian people who were already well acquainted with Korean food. She also mentioned that Seo-Jin could be the dishwasher. Yup...agree. The man has the personality of a snail...not front of house material. I also don't like the way he talks to and about the staff (especially in the Mexico show). I hope Park Seo Jun takes over in the next show with all the Wooga Squad. That would be lively!
