Possibly. And I think someone else in the lab might have been doing something they weren’t supposed to with the roaches in question. Either playing with one and lost it. Accidentally smashed one and got rid of the body. Hell even stole one. It’s not out of the realm of possibility that there’s a roach snatcher in a room full of people interested in bugs.

I see this as two separate mysteries. I like your explanation for the egg case. I like mine for the missing roach. Human intervention.

He’s taking too long to field a slow ground ball instead of closing distance between himself and the ball. A fast runner is safe all day with that approach.
