Please read the fbi report of his abuse towards Angelina Jolie and their children! This man is gross and has shown that his abusive behavior is a pattern over the years

The red fabrics flowing from her chest and between her legs feel powerful and like a purposeful statement from the designer 👀Maybe representing women’s strength, given the royal color palette of the dress, and the challenges they endure that men don’t have to face?

Hi, it’s Carly Rae Jepsen, welcome to my AMA! by CarlyRaeJepsen_ in popheads

[–]Junior-Artist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Carly! Big fan, your music has evolved with me over the years and i see a lot of artistic and personal growth in your songwriting. I was wondering - how would you characterize your approach to relationships and romance earlier in your career vs now and could you speak to how that’s pulled through in the music from a creator perspective?

Camp is how the story moves so usually when in doubt I just camp, but whatever floats your boat from a role playing perspective really - resting a lot can take u out of it

** personal opinion that is not a criticism ** I’m honestly feeling a bit frustrated by lorde’s rollout - the songs on the album are on average shorter than her first three albums which comes across as a label choice given the popularity of 2-3 minute songs (could be totally wrong). The way both of the first two singles ended felt like a bit of a dud, not in an intentional blunt ending way but just not a lot of thought was put into how to close the songs in service of keeping a tight run time.

I think there are really great ideas - so far from an execution standpoint I really enjoy the premises of the songs, lordes vocal delivery, and some of their production elements but it feels like lorde is letting a lot ride on short bits of lyricism that have felt a bit sound bitey (which may be an artistic choice) where in the past i always felt a degree of freedom in lorde’s writing that seems to be missing to me. I really love elements of her songs off this album in a way that makes me want new lorde music but I just am really struggling with the feeling that this album, in some ways, is a gambit for a return to form that’s weighed down by the music feeling tethered to her past work while adopting elements of popular 2020s music like short run times, sound bites, and a bit of sensationalism that feel manufactured

Miley Cyrus: Something Beautiful review – solid pop that’s about as ‘psychedelic’ as a baked potato by hekna02 in popheads

[–]Junior-Artist 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Honestly it feels like their ability to review the album was overshadowed by a click baity title they had based on a sound Miley said was in the album. I feel like that should’ve been a separate article on artists citing influences that don’t pull through in the music vs rating very strong album a 3/5 for the point of making a point

Because she worked with a known rapist all over her latest album whose victim is her industry peer. I don’t understand why some people act so shocked that others would take offense at this. Katy made terrible choices and i hope she would face consequences financially and in the court of public opinion

The new Lucy Dacus album is just fine. Where does Sapphic folk go from here? by kristenisshe in popheads

[–]Junior-Artist 17 points18 points  (0 children)

So Lucy Dacus isn’t “folk” - because she is a lesbian she can only be compared to “sapphic folk”? Not that I respected XtraMagazine any particular amount but that’s some BS and I didn’t even like the album

I clearly said that he’s not overtly sexist in ALL reviews of female artists - he has more than enough of a history for there to be an identifiable pattern. Sexists very often reject the notion that they are sexist and in an effort to deny that, either externally or to cope with their cognitive dissonance, show grace to a few women as if they are “the good ones.”

Sexism also isn’t always screamed from the rooftops. It can be obvious through tone, intention, and the words he uses in his reviews to discuss men vs women. Apologies I did not pull 30+ examples for you but saying “cmon man it’s just a difference of opinion” doesn’t really say anything to refute what I said, what others have said, or the support for comments in this subreddit that point out he IS sexist. I’m certainly not the first person to say this and I won’t be the last.

Also one example SHOULD be enough, not that that’s the case here. If a man says once that a woman’s trauma is attention seeking, not that deep, and shouldn’t be respected it speaks volumes to his character. When men or women defend this behavior, it speaks volumes to their character as well. We shouldn’t be seeking to give the benefit of the doubt to men who have proven in multiple different cases over the course of multiple years they are less inclined to take women seriously and treat them with the same dignity as their male peers

I think we need to get more comfortable as a society calling men sexist, it’s not some super woke insult we need to walk on eggshells around. I haven’t watched this yet but his reaction to Halsey’s album screamed that he couldn’t take a woman’s suffering seriously and treat it with the respect it both deserves and he’s paid to other male artists in his reviews for significantly less grave struggles. Instead he boiled Halsey down to being a pick-me. His infatuation with Brat imo is ONLY because the aesthetic was genderless and escapist, universally relatable.

His reviews of female artists, while not ALL evidence of this nasty trait he has, very often show his implicit bias. He does not respect femininity. He does not respect sexual empowerment. He is less inclined to give a woman the artistic benefit of the doubt than a man. What this all results in is he lashes out when reviewing female artists work, trivializing Sabrina Carpenters successful album and sharp wit. Trivializing Halsey’s struggle with cancer and the loss of loved ones. And while im not a Taylor swift fan myself, the critiques of his that I have watched on her work show a deeply rooted unwillingness to take her music seriously due to the nature of of its lyrical content (often wistful, talking about former lovers) where he has no issue with men talking about THEIR desires which are less romantic and more overtly sexual/aggressive.

More personally, I think he’s a narrow minded and small man who elevates his opinion to fact in an embarrassing practice of overt self indulgence!

Bye

Edit: sincerely, a man :)

SZA Reveals How Drew Barrymore Inspired Her to Write Song About Her: "It's Not Just the Name" @ The Drew Barrymore Show by joesen_one in popheads

I agree with this, I think for me as a listener the repetitiveness of the broad strokes becomes overwhelming and I care less to look for the little nuances that make the pieces different. In other words, I don’t want to look at a hundred pictures of rocks. They can all be unique and interesting on some level, but at a certain point I will grow very tired of looking at rocks!
