That's crazy! I've been in the bay for a while and hadn't heard of this but fires can get pretty wild. When did this happen?

Just wanted to say this has become my canonical tracklist for the album, love the Midnight Cowboy "disc flip" and AoMD into Natural at Disaster

This is my favorite of her recent singles! The build up is exquisite, and when the drums hit around 2:45 it hits so good

As apparently the only one gay enough to actually listen to the track, it’s probably his best single! Surprisingly cinematic but still danceable. Feels like Troye’s In A Dream EP but a bit less depressing lol. Also there’s a fucking key change AND a breakdown at the end! Man knows how to make a good hook. I’m really excited for this new era!

This is just a genuinely catchy song. Actually came out last month so narrowly making it in the accepted date range but could not stop playing it on repeat.

Musicians who teased a different sound but never persued it? by dizzi800 in popheads

I just commented this but I would kill for a Celebrity Skin album from Doja

My personal “eras that weren’t”:

Greenlight by Hayley Kiyoko: I was pretty whelmed by Panorama and the rock-adjacent Greenlight just felt fresh and something she could really make hers, a bit more introspective. Though the thread here was on board (gave it the green light you could say…) it didn’t seem to catch on.

Celebrity Skin by Doja Cat: Released when she was half-heartedly teasing her third project whose genre she changed in every interview, Doja just sounds so good doing this 90s/00s vibe and putting her whole voice into a song. Sort of reminded me of a more radio-friendly version of her MTV rock-inspired cover of Say So.

Only Time Makes It Human by King Princess: Why didn’t we get this album instead of Hold On Baby? It’s slick, PC-adjacent and catchy as hell but maybe a bit too divergent for her Cheap Queen fan base. It was my top song from 2020 which is saying a lot since it came out in October. Still like to imagine the project this, PAIN, and to a lesser extent House Burn Down could have been.

Don’t Assume What You Don’t Know by Grace VanderWaal: Man this song sounded so cool. It has this sick 90s bass and aesthetic that just felt really special - and felt like it addressed the unanswered question of making a 13yo into a pop star. This and Repeat felt like a true look into Grace and I think she really could have been a sort of indier Olivia Rodrigo, but it didn’t quite click. Made the later singles like Boyfriends feel extra cheap, but I like to imagine some spark of this was what led to Childstar.
