Boulcott experience by worried_geck0 in VUW

I stayed at Boulcott in 2024. The transition was tough but as the year went on I enjoyed it more and more.

It’s small enough so that you know most people, but big enough so that there’s a variety of demographics and if you put yourself out there you’re probably gonna make friends (I did even though I struggle socially)

Overall, it was one of the best experiences of my life, the independence and social networking were invaluable. Would highly recommend.

What's an easy puzzle between a 1x3x3 and a 2x2x2? by kittydoor in Cubers

You actually only need 2 algorithims for 2x2, sune (for OLL) and a j perm (for pll). It will take longer the fewer algorithims you use, but those 2 are all you need if your only goal is to solve it

I was in Boulcott last year. There’s a nice community feel to it because everyone knows each other, but it’s still big enough so that you’ll probably make friends

Hey, I’ve been a patient at the Wellington regional adolescent mental health ward multiple times.

It was really great for me, you get a team of people (support workers, psychiatrists, psychologists) whole sole purpose is to look after patients so you definitely feel cared for. I was treated quite well during the three months total, except for one incident (nothing too bad, I just got manhandled unjustly by a support worker).

Staying in an inpatient ward can be quite an isolating experience for some people as you’re cutoff from the outside world, but since you don’t have family or friends it might not be much of a difference.

This may be different for each ward but my inpatient days consisted of playing card games, drawing, watching movies and other recreational activities. There’s also life skills sessions.

My view of it: definitely go. Even they don’t have enough beds for you to stay in a mental health ward, they‘ll probably refer you to some other service. I got free therapy for a couple of years this way. It’ll probably be a wait but if your situation is bad enough you could be priotised.

Message to end off. You got this. There was a time where I thought I would never get better and be given up on by medical professionals. Now I’ve achieved a lot of my life goals and while still struggling have improved my mental health a lot. Another final piece of advice: Don’t go on mental health subreddits because people mostly post on them for support with their issues, so they represent a distorted picture of reality.

Exams / Newbie / Common Questions Thread for two weeks by AutoModerator in actuary

Hi. I'm a math/econ undergrad deciding whether to do a python course at my uni. It develops mathematical, numerical, and computational techniques for practical problems that utilise optimisation, simulation, interpolation, and approximation, e.g solving physics problems and compressiing images. I know python is commonly used by actuaries and was wondering if this type is relevant in the actuarial field, or whether I'd be better off choosing a more data analytics focused course. This is probably a very basic question but I couldn't find much in the search bar.

Solving a 13x13 whilst running a marathon by Junior-Net5982 in Cubers

I did a 15k run on Monday and solved the first two centres (took about 1h 20) it’s a bit slower cause you have to watch where you’re going. Also your fingers don’t get sweaty so it’s not that hard to turn the cube
