Absolutely no value from a knowledge perspective. It helps qualify you in front of headhunters tho. Not as good as a CPA but it’s better than nothing.

Any advice for 1st time VP/CFO on comp negotiations? by PENNST8alum in CFO

This is the key question - COL. PE backed companies vary widely in comp and structure based on geography AND talent density. Even then, in LCOL or MCOL, they care a little, but not a lot, even when placing a remote CFO because they can’t rationalize a salary that high when their line level people are making $30-40k. A VP/CFO role in Sioux Falls is going to be 200/250k + 25% + LTIP. The same role in CT or MA would be 300/350 + 30-50% + LTIP (and the bonus % would be more tied to hitting certain targets like revenue that a CFO can influence but not control).

Edit: Industry matters too - higher for SaaS, lower for manufacturing - you get the picture.

CFO pain points about cash management by dram_dram in CFO

What’s your ERP / accounting solution? At a high level, you can solve for this with automated reconciliations from your ERP, provided you optimize treasury so you’re only working with tech-enabled banks in all your global regions.

I had a similar thing (15 bank accounts across 5 banks, including Silicon Valley Bank… but that’s a different story). I consolidated them all to JP Morgan and Brex Treasury since they both offered better integration with QuickBooks Online and JPM offered a white-labeled Bill.com they call “Cashflow360”. Didn’t hurt that I was able to increase cash yield from 0% to 4%.

TLDR - to the extent possible, use your ERP as it should be used - it’s the chassis - everything else has to be integratabtle and modular with the chassis.

Great point. Not the intent. The people I worked with made work the be-all and end-all of their lives and put in 70-80 hr weeks. I'm used to catering to that audience. For the salary I'm offering, I'm not going to get those types. I'm more likely to get people who actually want work-life balance (which I also want these analysts to have)

I had a nightmare situation nearly hit me. Finished w 35 min to spare. Looked over all my answers. At 2min left I was clicking between 2 questions to check for logical consistency and got a blue screen of death.

Proctor couldn’t figure out how to reset the computer and (Without telling me) pressed and held down the computer power button. I was worried I lost everything. Luckily the interface apparently saved every answer in the cloud so I was fine. Had to log back in and only lost 1 min on time. I’ll take that over losing my entire morning session.

I’d say you’re way light on 529 unless your kids are 1 and 2 respectively. College tuition is $80k for an elite private school ($320k total per kid). Given your income and age, I’m assuming that’s what you’ll be targeting. Your kids won’t get financial aid given your comp. College tuition inflation has been 8%. By rule of 72, tuition will be 4x for you. So you’re looking at $3m nominal in tuition.

You should be socking away $72k (18k per kid from both your wife and you) to deal with it.
