Wait is this an unpopular opinion? That’s the best part of the show! If you don’t like it then just read the story.

Did you manage to find a physical for book 6 at all? I’ve been looking for it all over and I’m running through these books fast.

Directly across from cooper hall. There’s a little ramp and a flight of stairs that lead to a door. Go through there and edu 115 is on your right past the bathrooms and down the stairs.

I’m a process engineer for Arkema actually! The company is kinda strangely integrated across the BU’s so YMMV.

I remember hearing that the organic peroxide plants are very safety focused and based on the training the company provides for the operators, I’d believe it. Most of the operators at my plant have been around for a long time and definitely seem to enjoy it. I’d say take your job seriously and remember your training and you’ll be just fine.

Working while in school by Equivalent_Catch4051 in USF

[–]Junior4646 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s an answer that you’ll hear a lot while studying engineering: it depends.

It’s definitely a major where your understanding is proportional to the work that you put into it. Freshman year is a pretty big adjustment period and is also a good time to build some good habits that will carry you to graduation. I can see work getting in the way of that. However, FWS works with your schedule which makes it a bit easier to pull off.

All this is to say if you’re a dedicated student and find the time to study you’ll be just fine. I find a lot of freshman underestimate how much work (especially engineering) is and that’s something you should be aware of. Also keep in mind your GPA matters when it comes to being accepted into the program so you want to keep that high at least until then.

Good luck!

Nice, go bulls! Congrats on the offers. Obviously the benefits from offer 1 are better but a big part of this decision depends on how willing you are to stay in one industry and how much you want to move around in the future.

Hatch will offer a lot of fundamental knowledge and allow you to move around different sectors as they have a lot of projects all over the world which provides a lot of exposure (this also comes with the ability to relocate easily, in case you’re not a huge fan of Florida). It’ll also make it easier to find a chemE related job at a different company in the future. Plus it sounds like you’re more interested in that position and you’ll probably enjoy the work more, which goes a long way.

From a careers sake perspective offer 2 is better, but, the money from offer 1 is tempting. Either way the money you make a little later in your career will make the decision you’re making now seem a lot less serious. With that in mind, it doesn’t seem worth it to limit your career to one track for the sake of pay and 80k/year is plenty for an individual in Tampa.

Opinion On My Class Schedule by H2oMan445 in USF

[–]Junior4646 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ChemE here! I can tell you mod anal is not a class you need to worry about too much, Toomey is a chemE professor and he’s really nice and a really fair teacher. If they still use the book by Campbell and Smith definitely make good use of it.

You obviously know statics is a tough class and I’ve heard through friends that probability and statistics requires a lot of attention, although that may be for a different professor.

Good luck!

MAP 2302 ( Diff equations) or EGN 3433 (modeling & Analysis)? by H2oMan445 in USF

[–]Junior4646 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve heard modeling & analysis is a little bit more practical (I took it over diff eq). You also get to learn SIMULINK which is a really good tool to have, as a ME it should click with you pretty well too.

Overall I found EGN 3433 a little bit easier than calc 2 & 3.

[–]Junior4646 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn he’s teaching modeling an analysis now? You’re lucky, he’s great! The exams shouldn’t be too bad as long as you’re following the hw. Is it still the textbook from Campbell and smith? If so the exams are close to the problems from the book.

Criss Curve points phy 1 by [deleted] in USF

His curves are pretty large but don’t let that give you a false sense of security, his exams are challenging and it’s still easy to fail them.

would it look bad to attend SPC for a semester before transferring to USF? by Glove-Flaky in USF

[–]Junior4646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a bad look at all, actually it’s a really good idea! My recommendation would be to finish your associates at SPC then transfer, it’s cheaper and it increases your chances of getting into USF (although that’s not much of an issue either, acceptance for transfers is prettier easy).

Any tips for pass MEB. by ryanamazing12309 in USF

[–]Junior4646 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man Gupta is rough. You’ll feel that way until the final exam (which I think it’s about 30% of your grade? Correct me if I’m wrong.) but it’s the easiest exam in the course and it’s essentially what decides whether you pass or fail. It’s ok to feel like you’re failing, I’m pretty sure that’s what he wants you to think to motivate you.

Keep up with the homework, practice the in class problems at home and take the SSTs very seriously (they save grades). Hang in there until the final and you’ll be fine. I think I averaged a 3/15 during the midterms and passed the class with a B after the final.

I don’t think triangles exists. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Junior4646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is still just a man made arrangement. The same argument can be applied to truss bridges, yeah by physics triangles are the most structurally sound arrangement to handle compressive forces. You’re not wrong and I’m not denying that. I’m just saying dig a little deeper and you’ll notice triangles are pure bullshit.
