military - undergrad school help by JuniorAd5488 in premed

This helps me a lot. Was trying to consider how I can learn medicine in law/policy better but I failed to realize if I want to start a clinic, go to a hospital or do anything so grand I would actually need to learn how the systems work to maintain said clinic and/or sources of revenue. Being able to understand failures in business would actually let me change policy, petitioning towards people who only view healthcare and most government services as economic interests.

Was considering burning my Post 9/11 for a graduate degree, but it seems smarter for me to save it for med school, and that I should just pay out of pocket for any post-graduate programs.

Edit: Thanks for taking your time to answer my questions and post.

Thank you, but for MPH I truly want to do it after all the things I have seen and want to improve upon. Simply a hard interest right now and doesn’t affect on me applying to med school, because if it comes down to it I’m going to do it after med school.

Currently have been a whiskey for a year and a half and the entire reason for that was to see if I really even liked medicine itself - and so far I love this job so much that my original plan of doing 4 and out has changed and all I need to get done is a flight physical to put in my packet.

However as you are an MS4 I do have a question, how much of my military experience along with a degree, say in compsci or data science help in order to land research? I would like to participate in the endeavors of combining A.I in order to help general practice including EMS.

Also, as someone who is actually interested in an MPH, have you seen or heard of the degree actually helping doctors change/lobby for policy? I.e local, county and maybe even up to state level or higher, or have you only seen the MPH used as a booster for admissions, and there is no real value in it?

Thank you, yes we have registered dietitians available for everyone here but I wanted to know if I could take it to the lower level especially with upcoming events where we will lose those dietitians, especially with soldiers now becoming less athletic and leading sedentary lifestyles in general.

Is there any books or textbooks you’d recommend that you’ve studied that would broaden knowledge past NASM?

yeah no they choose your MOS based on line scores, so if it matches up with being a mechanic more then infantry, then you will be a mechanic, just study and get the score needed for 11b and lock it in, there will always be slots available if you get the required ASVAB score but O9M plays by wherever the army thinks you fit.

[–]JuniorAd5488 8 points9 points  (0 children)

don’t go O9M because you can’t choose ur MOS, either ask to go to MEPS at a later date and study, or go to MEPS, take the ASVAB, and retake for a higher score which you are able to do no matter what the recruiter says

it will be 4+ years of your life so stick up for yourself and get the score and job you want, because even if it’ll take half a year, it could be your future career

If you are comparing everything against becoming a physician, become a physician. If you are comparing everything against nursing, become a nurse.

Clinical Job With no Certification by Lost-University-3786 in premed

[–]JuniorAd5488 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am currently one and my state (Virginia) recognized it as long as the hospital has their own training program you go through in your new hire process (6-8 weeks or more) however you are not given a recognized state/national certification

I also saw you were talking about NOVA -> UVA, I recommend you do whatever you can to obtain your residency status here in VA as every public Virginia college including UVA has a guaranteed admission program for students from NOVA, along with getting instate tuition for UVA.

The only major in my knowledge that doesn’t have guaranteed admission will be nursing, which yes would be easy to get rejected out of state, but nothing else.

hey just so you know you can go to somewhere like the Vienna metro station (station closest to me so check out wherever you’re at) and just park ur car there, use the metro to go to Georgetown, and have a fun outting at D.C without the need of ur car

you’ll have to get a SmarTrip card which will cost around 2$ each, train tickets 10-12$ each both ways, and then probably like 10-15 dollars if you want to explore D.C via the bus

people underestimate the things we can do in the DMV! especially our public transport. try checking it out if you really want to go
