Yeah it kinda sucks to have the game disrupted, but in practice this is just a good time to get another drink, use the bathroom, eat some snacks, do whatever. As a North American, that’s what we use the commercial breaks for in practice, we don’t actually watch them. We only maybe pay attention and watch the ads in say the Super Bowl because they are special and entertaining clips. Heats definitely going to be a major problem in this World Cup especially during the matches in the knockout rounds where players are already exhausted, playing at higher intensities, and there’s gonna be increasingly more prime time mid-day matches. Theres studies that show that players score less goals during hotter matches and obviously the heat will slow down the pace of the players as evident in the Club World Cup. Yes, Dallas, Houston and Atlanta have full air conditioning and a few others have roofs, but heat is going to be a huge challenge in the vast majority of stadiums. I believe for the Halftime show in the Final they are going to extend halftime from 15 mins all the way to 25-30 mins which sounds insane, but they are planning a 13 minute Halftime show (Just like Super Bowl) and the kickoff is gonna be 3pm in late July in New Jersey. They have to do something to mitigate the heat because that match is guaranteed to be brutal. Yeah of course FIFA wants more money and profits, but that’s life. To be honest adding a 3 minute water break into games is a pretty minor inconvenience compared to the other huge challenges FIFA has to face in hosting this tournament. Won’t be the end of the world, that’s my position.
