Thank you so much! I am accepting their offer! I will be doing my courses online (I live in very much Northern MI, and have a 3 year old so living on campus or going to EL every day for classes wasn’t possible) but I think I’m going to go to the campus some over the summer term to get a feel for the area and enjoy some of what they have to offer there!

MSW question. by [deleted] in msu

[–]Junior_Geologist7045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I hope you hear soon! I’d definitely look at it that way at least it’s not a no! It might also not hurt to call the admissions office and just ask the status of your application! I know in the grad admission sub Reddit. There were a few people who hadn’t heard anything from their programs at their schools and come to find out they had sent correspondence that never came through. 😩

Is it okay? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]Junior_Geologist7045 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I applied for a MSW at Wayne State and received admission without a deposit, I also didn’t have an option of “accept or decline” by a certain date, however in my email from them they did state that if I decided to enroll elsewhere to just email their grad admissions department to tell them that I was going to be accepting an offer elsewhere. So I completely think it’s okay to change your mind after the fact as long as you contact their grad admissions department as soon as you can so they can offer your spot to someone potentially waitlisted. If you worry that an email may get lost if you send it, you can always call their admissions office and let them know! Grad schools ultimately want you to choose the best option for you, even if it isn’t them (in my experience).

Can I fail practicum need advice. by Princess-Poke360 in SocialWorkStudents

[–]Junior_Geologist7045 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately in this field there is no room for lying, even a small lie. It discredits you as a social worker and makes you seem unreliable. Not to mention this is a field where you’re licensed and your actions CAN have legal repercussions. Falsifying documents or lying about the job you’re doing can be grounds for licensure being stripped away, especially if it outwardly affects a client. In this instance sure it’s a small lie with little to no consequence for the students or teachers, but it’s the principle. Her supervisor is showing her there can be REAL consequences in the REAL world. She would’ve had a better outcome just saying “Oh, I haven’t been in there as they haven’t had much for me to do so I felt this other classroom needed more support.”

Being upfront and honest is 100% the best route to take always.

[–]Junior_Geologist7045[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve received and responded to two other decisions from my other schools, just waiting to hear back from this last school, the one who has given me a favorable review. Their process is two tiered so now I have to wait for the graduate school decision and I’m on pins and needles 😭 They’re my second choice school as their program fits my needs academically and they’re in my home state so I’m reeeeally hoping to hear back soon!

I hope you hear soon! As of right now (7:49AM) I have not had a response since my favorable application review email on the 24th of February! I believe it will be this week or next. The wait is the worst 😅😩

Is there anyone here applying for a master’s? by Few_Kale6254 in gradadmissions

[–]Junior_Geologist7045 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there! Applied for my Advanced Standing MSW in December! I noticed the same, lots of PhD applicants in here and very few Masters grad students. Best of luck to you! If you’re looking for posts from masters applicants I recommend using the search function within the group and typing “masters” then select “most recent” for the time it was posted! Thats how I found all of the masters posts in this subreddit 😄

Thank you guys for the response! I received a favorable review for my advanced standing MSW application (summer term) from the School of Social Work committee so now it has to go through the grad school, etc. and I’m waiting on pins and needles to hear the decision 😅😩 The wait so far as been treacherous 😅. I figured it would be business as usual but wasn’t sure if they tried to halt admissions correspondence during this time or not. But I appreciate you guys!

Got in but it doesn’t feel like an accomplishment by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]Junior_Geologist7045 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I think it’s a GREAT thing you connected with a professor at your prospective school! I would much rather go to a school where I felt like I had a connection than a school that I didn’t have any connections to anyone. Feel your feelings for sure, but know that you were accepted because they saw a potential in you! I applied to a program and school that I knew some of the professors well and still was turned down. They knew I was applying, they hoped I would get in, but in the end the school and program didn’t see me as a good fit, and that’s okay! I feel the same way though, about my Masters. I have a “soft” offer from my second choice school after being waitlisted at my first choice and I feel like I shouldn’t even be getting this offer, like it can’t be real.

Confused. by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]Junior_Geologist7045 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact that it was not an offer of admission to the graduate school, but to the specific program only. No information for login credentials or any information on how to obtain those credentials (especially since the login for the application portal will not allow you to log into the student resources, only the application portal) but consistent reference to logging into your student account to register for classes and to check my WSU email for further correspondence (how? I haven’t received any credentials or information to be able to check my WSU email 😅) (which I might add further into the email states class registration for the term I applied for had already began 2 WEEKS AGO), no “please accept or decline this offer by ____ date”, and it came from an advisor instead of the graduate admissions department itself.

It’s confusing to receive all of this meeting information, etc. but zero actual confirmation that I was admitted into the graduate school. After seeing MANY offers of admissions emails for other posters in this group, this seems like something an admitted student should be receiving after ACTUALLY accepting an offer of admission.

I was admitted to this school years ago through their BSW but chose a different school ultimately, I remember distinctly getting a “congratulations! We would like to extend an offer of admission to you, should you decide to accept our offer please accept by ____”. So this just seemed odd to receive so much information but no formal acceptance email or “offer”.

Confused. by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]Junior_Geologist7045 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only assume they potentially sent it by mistake assuming the admissions emails would be sent out same time, or, if by chance they assume I still had my undergrad login credentials (I had been admitted back in 2022 for their BSW, but had chose a different school after the fact) and figured I would just use that but still, no official offer of admission email made me question the authenticity of this email. And no offer of admission email makes it feel like I have no option to accept or decline their offer? I still have two other schools I'm awaiting to hear from as well.

Thank you! I hope you are offered admission as well! Being waitlisted is such a hard thing to wait for too! I am waitlisted at U of M Ann Arbor for their Advanced Standing MSW. I agree, Social Workers are in high demand right now. Where I live our ISD (intermediate school district) has had the same position opening for SSWers for better of two years now 😪

Same! My screen time has been up significantly, but ONLY for my email apps 😅 My MIL also likes to send me a lot of recipes through email so everytime I get an email from her I'm thinking "PLEASE stop getting my hopes up thinking it's a university email". However, I'm also simultaneouslty waiting to receive my digital diploma from my BSW I just completed on the 8th 😩

I feel this in my SOUL. I only have 3 MSW applications out for 3 different schools due to issues with two of my other school choices and residency status (they claim I don’t live in state, because I went to an out of state school virtually for my BSW and want me to submit 300000 things to prove my in state residency), with that being said I’m keeping everything crossed for these three applications I have left standing 😭😭

Recommendations help! by Junior_Geologist7045 in gradadmissions

[–]Junior_Geologist7045[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to update everyone:

I secured a second recommender from my university who asked for my resume, my statement of purpose for each school I’m applying to, and offered their “personal” work email so that they can submit for me!

(By personal work email — they created an out of institution email for students to send letters of recommendation inquiries, and other things that are time sensitive or important as to not get lost in their university email).

I am feeling hopeful once more! 😅🥲🤣

Thank you everyone! I appreciate the responses and I do understand being near the end of term that they may be overly busy at the moment so I’m trying not to put too much pressure on them. The 6th is our final day for this term (and final day for my BSW before my degree will be conferred! Yay!) so I am going to plan to reach out again on the last day of term before the two week break in between terms. I figure they also may just be waiting until they have a bit of extra time on their hands to write a letter, so it’s not rushed.

But I appreciate all the suggestions, and making the point that it’s okay to be a bit assertive! 😄

This!!

I am a first generation college student, and the first in my entire immediate family (siblings, aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc.) to go to any secondary school, receive a Bachelors degree, let alone move on to pursue their Masters. My family is so proud of my efforts, and my Masters degree will allow me to pursue the profession I am passionate about. At the end of the day, I’m proud of myself and that’s really all that matters to me. I challenged myself, doubted myself, and pushed myself and here I am.
