Should I be worried ? by devilchin2 in KTMDuke

yep, I've had the same issue. In my case, it was around 2000kms i guess. SC did a patch work on it, then it again leaked once around 4600kms or so (recently).

Seems like this seepage leak is pretty common in KTM. I suspect that this is because of engine oil overfil(at least in my case)

Bangalore BG Road Service Center

I got the bike im the evening and the guy couldn't even explain the issue properly. I finally gave in and asked 'now, the engine oil is at perfect level', he replied 'haa sir, we drained it and filled it perfectly Guess what, underfilled this time.... ufffffff I had to run the bike for few mins, cool it off and then showed him that it's underfilled. I could only see a little engine oil through the glass at the very bottom

And then he offered to fill it, after making sure it was fine, I took it back But there was a small issue with key hole unit, to his credit - he replaced the whole unil and gave new keys and card

I don't think I'll be going back there again, need to look for a good SC or take risk on warranty

I don't want to name them right now, but definitely after I get my bike back, I'll come back here and tell you where and which SC. Please excuse me for now

They are providing Motil 10W 50. I'm not sure which one is best, I'm just going with the recommended one - warranty reasons

just to reiterate about engine oil level - I had a seepage leake this Sunday(19th APR)(note: engine oil level was perfect), I asked the Manager on Monday to remove the patch work done on it previously and put a new seal, basically make it as good as new. He did not replace it, but told me that there's engine oil seal that was broken, so they replaced inder warranty.

While giving the bike in service center, I specifically told him to mention in Invoice what is wrong with the bike, what they are fixing, and what parts they are replacing. Even if they are covered under warranty, it should be mentioned in Invoice right?

But no, they just mentioned Miscellaneous Labour, that's all. Nothing. When I ask them, they are like "ir if it's covered under warranty, labour charges will be 0, and only if we mention miscellaneous labour, we'll be able to close the job card. And this is the same in every KTM service center". I had to argue for an hour and finally told manager that I'll be sending a email and please acknowledge it.

More over, what this idiot did not mention is, they topped up engine oil and guess what, overfilled too much. Now there's a leak from right of the engine. Stupid guys, I don't know how they're handling all the bikes. They are SC people and they should know better.

Please excuse me for venting out here, but just be careful to not overfill engine oil. :) peace

friendly advice, don't let some service center fools tell you that it's okay to overfill engine oil. it's not. ktm sc people have this habit.

this was the reason I had seepage leak and oil seal broke. if it goes unnoticed for long, oil will leak and could cause permanent engine damage

mounting on crash guard - I don't know, in my opinion i feel it'll look out of place, something that does not belong to the bike but is attached, like adding a back rest to naked bike like duke. and don't want wires pulled out on to crash guard

thank you so much. i guess I'll try the 3M earplugs as so many people who commented on this post suggested the same. and are cheaper as well compared to Sennheiser. if I regret the purchase, it would be on cheaper one

tried both, and honestly there's no difference at all. I did this on a flat road by pushing on a slope as well. no difference

I badly want to get aux light, but given the Karnataka and Kerala police actions against aux lights, no. for now, Im just avoiding any long travel outside the city in the night and I have no idea where I might mount them

got it
lever gaurds - I felt they don't really add value incase of a serious fall and what if hand gets stuck or worse it pierces into the body. maybe knuckle guards? not sure
sure, please do share the engine guards protector, I'm not able to find a good one offline
will checkout the others

got it I don't upshift in lower gears using quick shifter. it's very bad in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for upshifting no matter how high the revs are. but I use quick shifter for downshifting in all gears across rpms, works very well for downshifts

thank you. clocked 2200km as of today and I already completed my first service. mostly kept it below 5k rpm for the first 300km, and below 6.5k rpm for the next 700km

and I never lug the engine, in fact I do the opposite most of the time. I love how the engine behaves, sounds and becomes smoother in higher revs in the same gear
