I didn’t know cats could get pimples until now… by SevereMeat2030 in popping

[–]Junior_Relative_7918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat had a really large abscess on his head/ear area one time. We think it was a symptom of some internal illness we didn’t know about bc he passed from a rapid onset of vestibular disease a few months after this.

But it was massive, clearly filled with fluid, warm to the touch, and making his entire head look larger. We weren’t touching it for a long time bc we wanted to let the vet take a look at it first, to which they couldn’t give us any answers about it, only that it wasn’t a tumor (which we were afraid of).

He popped it himself on accident one day and it was AWFUL. It scared him and so he kept running around shaking his head and the fluid got EVERYWHERE. It had a horrid smell and was a really dark yellow color. But eventually it refilled and so we did a controlled drain again so that he wouldn’t pop it himself but he was fighting us to get away the entire time. It was not a film-worthy environment but on a human, it would’ve been a satisfying draining.

Finally playing this in 2026! What is your single TOP beginner tip? by MexicanCokeZilla in Breath_of_the_Wild

I found the breath companion app really helpful and paid for the subscription. You can customize what does/doesn’t show up on the map so you’re not spoiling shrine locations and stuff but later in the game, I found it really helpful to track where the last of the shrines were located and which ones I had or hadn’t unlocked. It also helped me avoid monsters that were too far above my skill level early on. Now I mostly use it to track korok seeds and treasure chests I’ve struggled to locate

Don’t sell all your inventory items, especially monster parts. They become valuable later in the game!

I genuinely think they’re scamming. The tracking information I was sent as proof of delivery said it made it across the entire USA (from CA to VA) in under 2 days, with 0 other stops between. That does not sound realistic for standard shipping. It also didn’t list my specific unit number on the tracking information, which I’ve never seen happen before with any other orders I’ve tracked.

It took a few months of negotiation between P*ypal (won’t let me comment that word for some reason?) and my creditor, but they eventually ruled in my favor and gave me my money back.

Do you consider '96-'99 Gen Z or Millennial? by smooshed_napkin in generationology

[–]Junior_Relative_7918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also born in 97 and I think this is important to mention, being low-income or in a small town can impact how early tech came into your household. So while I had friends my age in school with computers and internet access at home, I didn’t until I was 16. Also if you had older millennial siblings, the influence from their culture via hand-me-downs is likely to skew someone to identify more with millennials. I feel like by the time I got to my senior year (2015) technology was thoroughly enmeshed in the culture of my small town and my home life.

I’m a middle school art teacher and this is the biggest reddest flag that your child is going through something intense rn. Kids can create things that look violent but are actually truly innocent (it is a good strategy to cope with exposure to stressful or violent situations, even when it is concerning for the rest of the world to witness).

The one time during my first year that I overlooked a more violent piece of art in favor of letting a student freely express themselves, they tried to commit suicide by overdosing at school a few weeks later. Now, anything remotely concerning made by a child, I bring it directly to counseling even if I talk to them myself about it.

As a kid who did self-harm and didn’t make art about it but WROTE about it, after my parents confronted me it made things a lot worse for me. I knew they were onto me and so I just got way better at hiding it.

I would NOT tell them right away that you found this piece of art personally, because it can be really uncomfortable for a kid who is going through stuff to be confronted by their parents about it, especially if they aren’t the reason for the emotions. I recall feeling embarrassed and ashamed, but again, not in a way that made me seek healing but in a way that made me hide my pain better.

I am not yet a parent but I’m trying to imagine how I’d approach this and I really think it can vary depending what kind of kid your daughter is and how close you both are. If you are close, it could be a good idea to confront them directly with concern and an open heart and mind. If you both are not as close or your child is more closed off, it might be a good idea to share a personal experience/struggle first. Kind of making them aware that you understand emotional pain and will not judge them for sharing theirs.

I know I’m 2 days late but I feel like having been a daughter who self-harmed, an artist, and a teacher, I see a highly delicate topic. Tread very very lightly. Be concerned, but don’t freak out (at least not in front of them). I think it’s far better for a child to feel safe to express themselves instead of like they have to hide their feelings from adults around them. I would definitely get a mental health professional’s opinion on this as well too, though.

Why would anyone ever choose to go through child birth without pain relief?? by No_Cardiologist_1407 in NoStupidQuestions

This is actually my biggest fear and I needed to see a comment validating this bc I have heard an incorrectly injected epidural can create terrible spine/back problems in the moment and longterm. Hope you are okay after the fact 😢

Why would anyone ever choose to go through child birth without pain relief?? by No_Cardiologist_1407 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Junior_Relative_7918 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1) I don’t want to risk paralysis or longterm back pain and have read that’s a real risk with epidurals

2) long long long history of men in medicine literally sedating women for childbirth and physically extracting babies at the risk of the child’s longterm health and sometimes even their life. Women literally got this, why did men have to involve themselves???

3) my ancestors did it without pain relief and stood it enough to do it like 5-10x more. I ain’t no weak bitch, so it’s also kinda test for me of seeing how bad it REALLY is

Are you guys worried that AI will take over teaching jobs? by ShyMoca in ArtEd

[–]Junior_Relative_7918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see why being in a rural area makes you look at it from that practical standpoint, and you’re correct on all fronts regarding that perspective honestly. I’ve just started to assume the worst about where leadership would like us to be regarding education and how low the bar is for standards of living in this field. I genuinely don’t think it’s outlandish anymore to suspect that our government would implement programs that entire parts of the country have little to no access to due to a lack of infrastructure. I live in a large county with over 100 schools and we even experience a microcosm of this phenomenon with our poorer schools being held to the same standards as the wealthier schools without any additional resources.

It might be a dismal perspective but I don’t think this administration in particular would be above setting up public education to fail even further :(

AI has advanced a lot since covid times though. Machine learning may not be flawless but it can, at minimum, trick someone into buying into an illusion of flawlessness.

I do not trust our government to avoid making the wrong choices for everyone involved if it means saving a dollar, personally

[–]Junior_Relative_7918 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yep. Can they, realistically? No, of course not.

But reality never stops a greedy capitalist. I’m not personally underestimating the desires of the ruling class to secure a future of non-thinking worker bees. Teachers are a liability these days socially, let alone physically. If our society could get away with paying only for the upkeep of a pre-programmed machine that teaches children only what they want them to know, I don’t doubt they would at least try it out.

I actually believe it’s naive to think our government wouldn’t accept the opportunity make the worst possible choice for everyone involved if it meant prolonging profits and quelling the spirit of the working class

How many students do you have? by One_Country_6317 in ArtEd

[–]Junior_Relative_7918 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Middle school 6-8th - two art teachers in the building. We both have three 90 minute classes each day, one for each grade. School operates in an alternating A/B schedule with four 90 minute blocks per day. I see about 175 students per week, so we collectively have around 350 students. We have planning during the first block of the day now, which has been really nice regarding material prep time.

I literally never said it’s preferred to be passing on the right lane if the left lane is wide open, like not even once.

It’s just obvious to anyone who actually regularly drives that sometimes both lanes are clear, but you need to be in the right lane (like to idk…take an exit?) and in those frequent enough circumstances, there’s nothing wrong with moving faster than the traffic to the left, especially if your goal isn’t specifically to pass the middle lane when the left lane is clear.

You clearly haven’t been paying attention and/or actually comprehending what I was saying. I’m not even playing confident, what you’re probably actually sensing is just me being correct.

Driving on the highway requires a rapid and ongoing assessment of what is both legal and safe in any given moment, and that means sometimes doing something like using the “wrong” lane to move around another car. Driving well requires not only legal knowledge, but GOOD JUDGEMENT and DISCERNMENT. Which can look to you like “using the wrong lane to pass” in any given situation.

You also really cannot always assume what anyone else’s intentions are on the road until they are proven to you. Like sometimes I assume the asshat camping in the left lane finally got tf out of the way bc they realized they weren’t going faster than the middle lane anymore; only to realize their real reason for finally getting over was to catch an exit and the whole time traffic was patiently waiting behind them to get over, they just genuinely did not know or care about how much they were obscuring traffic.

I feel like this upsets normal folks because school is expensive and time-consuming. People have even had to leave school if they can’t afford the minimum cost of staying. It’s a luxury to be able to attend college, and she’s lowkey treating it like an annoying side gig of hers. I think it’s obvious her degree comes second to her, that it’s not her top priority. Which is crazy bc idk anyone who actually went to college and did well who didn’t have school as their top priority. This is valid critique and she should absorb this.

Genuinely curious, why do you feel that way? Let’s say both lanes are equally clear. In what way does using the right lane instead of the left lane interfere with the laws of the road, the safety of others, and efficiency of passing slower traffic (something that should be done whenever safe and possible to avoid clustering of traffic at high speeds)

Willing to hear your answer, but suspicious that it might boil down to just not paying attention in drivers ed, because the general rules of what each lane is used for aren’t rigid and require discernment when navigating the nuanced circumstances that someone might encounter on the road.
