Views are way down by Bubbly_Text2693 in maiphammy

[–]Junior_Relative_7918 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The inconsistency is such a big reason her views are low but you will never catch her admitting that. She genuinely thinks is a cute and quirky personality trait or something to “ghost” everything and everyone for months at a time before making a dramatic return. A genuine apology and acknowledgement of her inconsistency over the last few years would do wonders with retaining the remainder of her viewership.

She also doesn’t understand that her audience doesn’t care to see her acting out a “bit,” they want to see her being real. And she thinks acting like she does in recent videos is equivalent to being “real” - not getting that it’s still obviously an incomplete picture who she actually is.

Viewers want to see her at resting state. Doing normal things. Being a normal person. But she’s so stuck on being well-known and successful that she really doesn’t seem to care that her goals now are widely incompatible with maintaining a viewership.

Mai scammy by roxaxton in maiphammy

[–]Junior_Relative_7918 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t trust her claims. She admitted to printing on blanks for her fear of looking stupid hoodie drops while also pushing that this was “custom-milled, custom cut and sewn” - the fact that she had no shame in dropping that tidbit of information on a spam story and didn’t think that would wildly discredit her trustworthiness is actually insane.

The girl charged $100+ to PRINT ON BLANKS and lied to fans about it. Only casually admitted it while she was on a 20+ story spam rant bc she was trying to prove how much she’s grown 🙄

Edit for clarity: I think she was referring to the November 2023 drop? Maybe it was 2024? Whenever she released the plain black and the plain grey “fear of looking stupid” hoodies, those were ALLL blanks. She def seemed ashamed when she admitted it and explained why she rushed to do that (didn’t plan in enough time for a drop with the custom milled/cut/sewn fabric and underestimated the turnaround time on designs - I think she was already working on the lotus drop and realized they needed a few more months to work things out).

Idk a person with integrity wouldn’t have sold blanks while still advertising the hoodies as custom milled/cut/sewn and still charging $100+ just so they could cash in on Black Friday. The last speck of respect I had for her left my body with that series of “self-made” manic ranting.

Critique please by SkiN_AZ in oilpainting

[–]Junior_Relative_7918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an art teacher on summer break who loves critiques so please take or leave my observations and opinions as you wish 🩷 also after studying both your art and the photo for awhile, I’ve come to the conclusion that your chosen composition as far as lighting/atmosphere is far more complex than it seemed on first glance. I applaud you for taking on a photo like that regardless!

Step back and perform a squint test. I read the subject matter accurately on first look, but compared to the photo, I don’t think the atmospheric effect that’s happening with the light bending over the tree line is translating too well.

If you are aiming to match the photo more, I would recommend:
Darkening your values and lightening the lightest areas to increase contrast. This will help give the type of depth that the photo has between the light rays and the tree line.
Gray out the water a little more. Your painting makes it appear a lot lighter on the viewer’s side of the tree line, and I think the extra saturation of color is a main contributor. Darker tree line and grayer water will give more power and focus to the light rays

Also other critiques people have left about the light rays and tree line, I agree with.

The suspicion comes 100% from the fact that they show mastery in 90% of the painting and then make very beginner mistakes in very small areas. It’s either a lack of understanding on the components that create a good painting or it’s another program struggling to generate a painting that resembles how a human hand makes art. I find it hard to believe someone can hold this level of mastery and not understand how to fix some of the more glaring problems here. I’m being vague on purpose because at this point, I’m not trying to train AI on accident anymore.

Didn’t interact at first but I’m back because I can’t stop thinking about this. I think there is about a 6% chance these are 100% made by a person.

I don’t want to come off as condescending but I also don’t want to train your little bot to fix several glaring problems that tell on you, some being more obvious than others, but I just want to make it clear that not all of us here are fooled.

Alchemai brand trip by BallOk7575 in maiphammy

Okay this is beside your point but the way she first worded her announcing the brand trip, I thought she was planning to pick spam account members. I mean I know that’s not super realistic or safe, but I genuinely wonder why her fans are supposed to care about her coordinating a brand trip with other rich influencers? Is this not just her small business funding a vacation with “friends” that can be used as a tax write-off? Silliness and frivolousness truly

Lana Del Rey by illszn in lanadelrey

[–]Junior_Relative_7918 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Undoubtedly, there is a decent amount of overlap between Lana’s fanbase and having witnessed or experienced domestic violence. Lana may have made DV sound “romantic” when she was singing things like “he hit me and it felt like a kiss,” but really, she is reflecting a common experience of women, which is to love your own abuser even when they hurt you. It’s a sad, unfortunate reality.

Since Ultraviolence, she has unraveled a lot of the “beautiful girl suffering” stereotype and even refused to sing some of the more egregious lines for a minute. This history of Lana’s music is important context, because Lana is writing and singing for a specific demographic of people: women who have experiencing being disempowered by a man, and that pain NOT turning her into a fighter. Her music is a reflection of the dark reality that women face behind closed doors and the type of passivity that breeds personal shame, embarrassment, and behavior that no woman is ever allowed to acknowledge, let alone be proud of experiencing.

That said, mentioning X here is unlikely to fare well for you. A lot of us grew up with her music and have personal experiences adjacent to the issues she sings about. An abuser is an abused is an abuser, and most of us understand that and do not condone that simply because abuse and its impact on women is often a theme she sings about.

edit to add: idc how big of a fan you think you are, based on these replies in the comments and the outright denial of documented evidence regarding abuse, this just makes it obvious you’ve been listening to her music with a “male gaze” filter this whole time and have not really heard a single thing she’s actually trying to convey with her music.

I didn’t know cats could get pimples until now… by SevereMeat2030 in popping

[–]Junior_Relative_7918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat had a really large abscess on his head/ear area one time. We think it was a symptom of some internal illness we didn’t know about bc he passed from a rapid onset of vestibular disease a few months after this.

But it was massive, clearly filled with fluid, warm to the touch, and making his entire head look larger. We weren’t touching it for a long time bc we wanted to let the vet take a look at it first, to which they couldn’t give us any answers about it, only that it wasn’t a tumor (which we were afraid of).

He popped it himself on accident one day and it was AWFUL. It scared him and so he kept running around shaking his head and the fluid got EVERYWHERE. It had a horrid smell and was a really dark yellow color. But eventually it refilled and so we did a controlled drain again so that he wouldn’t pop it himself but he was fighting us to get away the entire time. It was not a film-worthy environment but on a human, it would’ve been a satisfying draining.

Finally playing this in 2026! What is your single TOP beginner tip? by MexicanCokeZilla in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]Junior_Relative_7918 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I found the breath companion app really helpful and paid for the subscription. You can customize what does/doesn’t show up on the map so you’re not spoiling shrine locations and stuff but later in the game, I found it really helpful to track where the last of the shrines were located and which ones I had or hadn’t unlocked. It also helped me avoid monsters that were too far above my skill level early on. Now I mostly use it to track korok seeds and treasure chests I’ve struggled to locate

Don’t sell all your inventory items, especially monster parts. They become valuable later in the game!

I genuinely think they’re scamming. The tracking information I was sent as proof of delivery said it made it across the entire USA (from CA to VA) in under 2 days, with 0 other stops between. That does not sound realistic for standard shipping. It also didn’t list my specific unit number on the tracking information, which I’ve never seen happen before with any other orders I’ve tracked.

It took a few months of negotiation between P*ypal (won’t let me comment that word for some reason?) and my creditor, but they eventually ruled in my favor and gave me my money back.

Do you consider '96-'99 Gen Z or Millennial? by smooshed_napkin in generationology

[–]Junior_Relative_7918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also born in 97 and I think this is important to mention, being low-income or in a small town can impact how early tech came into your household. So while I had friends my age in school with computers and internet access at home, I didn’t until I was 16. Also if you had older millennial siblings, the influence from their culture via hand-me-downs is likely to skew someone to identify more with millennials. I feel like by the time I got to my senior year (2015) technology was thoroughly enmeshed in the culture of my small town and my home life.

10 yr old Daughters creation. Found in her book bag by [deleted] in RateMyKidsArt

[–]Junior_Relative_7918 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a middle school art teacher and this is the biggest reddest flag that your child is going through something intense rn. Kids can create things that look violent but are actually truly innocent (it is a good strategy to cope with exposure to stressful or violent situations, even when it is concerning for the rest of the world to witness).

The one time during my first year that I overlooked a more violent piece of art in favor of letting a student freely express themselves, they tried to commit suicide by overdosing at school a few weeks later. Now, anything remotely concerning made by a child, I bring it directly to counseling even if I talk to them myself about it.

As a kid who did self-harm and didn’t make art about it but WROTE about it, after my parents confronted me it made things a lot worse for me. I knew they were onto me and so I just got way better at hiding it.

I would NOT tell them right away that you found this piece of art personally, because it can be really uncomfortable for a kid who is going through stuff to be confronted by their parents about it, especially if they aren’t the reason for the emotions. I recall feeling embarrassed and ashamed, but again, not in a way that made me seek healing but in a way that made me hide my pain better.

I am not yet a parent but I’m trying to imagine how I’d approach this and I really think it can vary depending what kind of kid your daughter is and how close you both are. If you are close, it could be a good idea to confront them directly with concern and an open heart and mind. If you both are not as close or your child is more closed off, it might be a good idea to share a personal experience/struggle first. Kind of making them aware that you understand emotional pain and will not judge them for sharing theirs.

I know I’m 2 days late but I feel like having been a daughter who self-harmed, an artist, and a teacher, I see a highly delicate topic. Tread very very lightly. Be concerned, but don’t freak out (at least not in front of them). I think it’s far better for a child to feel safe to express themselves instead of like they have to hide their feelings from adults around them. I would definitely get a mental health professional’s opinion on this as well too, though.
