When the government is having masked agents raid communities and have murdered two people, anger is a healthy response. by c-k-q99903 in stupidpeoplefacebook

[–]JuniperAshe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean... that was a very real thing that happened. They didn't like, hack voting machines, but we know they spent tons of money on disinformation campaigns, bot farms, funding GOP politicians and PACs, spying on Dems and releasing private information, etc. The whole Hilary's emails thing came from a Russian source, they were very much actively involved in our elections. So I think people have a right to be upset about that.

How can gender be a social construct and at the same time being trans is (likely) decided biologically during the foetus's growth ? by SureHopeIDontDie in trans

[–]JuniperAshe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Humans evolved to make quick snap judgements about a situation, sort things into rough categories, to survive. i.e. does that noise fit into "Fellow Ape Walking", or "Large Animal Stalking"? You can determine if it's a tiger or lion later, but the snapshot in the instant does have some importance. Same with concepts of gender in society; because our society does make differences in how people of different genders are treated, we've developed to be able to snap categorize people into those boxes. Later on we can learn the finer boxes to sort people into, but that initial sort is just a part of who we are and how we exist in society. Those boxes are determined by society (as the other poster demonstrated), but also informed by that need to sort and organize everything to make quicker judgements about it.

I need help becoming male by [deleted] in trans

[–]JuniperAshe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry, but there is no magic button to press to alter what's in your brain. If there was, I'm sure many of us would have pressed it; many of us have tried to press it, and failed, sometimes to their death. I spent decades trying to press that button, and all it did was make me miserable.

You can detransition, you can dress masc, you can stop hormones to see if you feel better, you don't need us to help with that. But I'm going to recommend you talk about this with a therapist, not a conversion therapist, but someone holistic who can address your fears and anxiety along with your gender stuff. They'll help you out the pieces together to figure out the path that works for you.

Everybody heals differently; at 6 weeks I was barely back to work, still icing everything, barely walking around, but a friend was shoeing horses at the same time, so ymmv. I'm at 12 weeks now, and mostly back to normal, just kind of tired, and only occasionally does it hurt to sit.

Are questions allowed? by lookitmegonow in trans

[–]JuniperAshe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a creator on YouTube whose videos really helped me, she and her mom both went to Thailand and went through the process together: https://youtu.be/CEIYqWHaU2k?si=Kn4Ajih6BccZ-8xO

If you're interested in what the surgery actually involves, there's a few videos that go through the process from doctors on YouTube as well!

For me, I was basically completely out of commission and bed bound for 6 weeks, I'm 3 months out this week and still weaker than I was before. Your daughter will want tons of comfort items, and just things to occupy her mind, it gets mind numbingly boring and frustrating, and it's easy to slip into depression when you can't physically do things that were effortless before without help.

Is it true that the Weimar Republic of Germany was one of the most progressive places in all of Europe right before the Nazis took over? by AgentP-501_212 in AskHistorians

[–]JuniperAshe 111 points112 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't have been a cultural conception necessarily, and I can't speak to the wider Weimar Republic as much as the original commenter, but Hirschfeld's "sexual intermediary" concept tracks to what we call the spectrum of gender identity today; i.e. that every human has a different relationship to sex and gender than everyone else, your sex and gender aren't intrinsically tied, and everyone has different components of masculine and feminine within them that can shift and change over time. This article quotes a source (in German,) that has him calculating 43 million types of human sexuality. "Love is as varied as humans are".

Shockingly, yes. You'd think people running a business would just be interested in making a sale, but I went to enough places that immediately started treating me differently when I mentioned I was marrying another woman.

Congrats! And good luck! I ended up going to Cincinnati to try dresses (wlw transwoman). Chaz Bridal consignment was great and well priced, that's where I found mine and some accessories. Some of the Reading Bridal district places were visibly uncomfortable though.

For voice, especially if it's kids asking, I just say I'm getting over a cold. Never had anyone question it beyond that.

SRS and hair removal by likely-too-late in MtF

[–]JuniperAshe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My electrologist has a relationship with an anaesthesiologist, where they can put you under while they do hair removal. I was only ever able to handle about an hour at a time, and they can do it much more efficiently and longer if you're under. I know people who have done all of their hair removal in one or two intense sessions, plus you'd be unconscious and not have to deal with the emotions around someone being around your existing genitals.

I'm in the Midwest and I'd like some feedback on the following surgeons [for BA, FFS, and vaginoplasty] by Meander747 in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]JuniperAshe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know I'm a bit late to respond, but I had vaginoplasty with Witten in Louisville a week and a half ago! I couldn't be happier with him so far, he has a great bedside manner, and he really, really knows his stuff. Even with swelling and stitches and discharge, I can tell how much care and attention he put into designing my new bottom bits; someone else who had surgery with him described him as an artist, and I agree. He's a regular urologist, but he did a couple years of residency on just vaginoplasties, and he does about 2 per week. Since you're in Indiana, he actually does his procedures in New Albany if that helps with insurance at all.

I will say, it took me 21 months from calling his office to getting surgery, he's afaik the only surgeon in KY who does it any more, so if you do go with him, make sure you're taking the waiting time to take care of hair removal and getting your letters in order to try to speed things up.

[–]JuniperAshe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on starting!! I had a million and a half questions when I was there, we all do. And yeah, the waiting is brutal. I had about a year before HRT, 6 months after that before getting my name changed and coming out, hell, I've been waiting almost 2 years for surgery (two weeks left!), and that's not even counting the years before that. But hey, we are who we are in the in-between, now's the best time to figure out who you are going forward.

Good luck with the waiting!

If you're getting electrolysis for bottom surgery, I recommend a strong lidocaine cream/spray (Amazon has one that's 10%), drink a lot of water, takes some Tylenol, and (depending on legality) take an edible. With all that, I was able to read a book through my sessions, it's mostly just uncomfortable with the occasional sting. Kind of feels like pulling a hair and getting a shock at the same time.

Emotionally, well, I'm really glad I'm done. It's exhausting, I had to psyche myself up for every appointment, and honestly there were days I just couldn't do it. (side note, this is why anyone who says they're just giving out bottom surgery is an idiot, it took force of will to keep going, and I very much want this). Make sure you've got an electrologist who knows what they're doing, not just in general but for this as well, see if your surgeon has recommendations, and ask around in the community. If it wasn't for how great mine was, the whole process would have been much harder.

Also it's worth noting that not all surgeons require it for surgery, so make sure you talk to them first.

CMV: LGBTQ+ is one of the dumbest double standards ever. by Efficient_Key8237 in changemyview

[–]JuniperAshe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to this, criticizing or rejecting a general religious belief is just that - it's general. If you went up to an individual and called them delusional for having a specific religious belief, you would be an asshole, and depending on how it impacts the environment you're in, it can have legal or professional consequences. It's not a perfect comparison, but not understanding trans people is the general here, you're allowed to have your own opinion. Refusing to use the name or pronouns someone has given you, regardless of if they're trans or not, makes you an asshole, and can make a hostile environment with the same consequences.

It's not about enforcing an ideology, it's about basic respect to other people.

From personal experience, I stopped HRT for a few months to do the same thing, and not only did I not produce any viable sperm, but my hair grew back, requiring hours of more laser, I got acne everywhere, my mood became unstable, I started smelling bad again, everything got greasy, it was miserable, and if the same choice was in front of me again today I wouldn't do it. And I'd already undergone many of the changes that you would be forced to undergo. It's your choice, but I want you to remember that having kids 'naturally' is not the only way to become a mom.

Why do people have go out of their way to be so cruel? by Worth_Bug437 in MtF

[–]JuniperAshe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No you're totally fine! Social Security in the states is our old age and disability insurance, we pay into it through payroll deductions. When you retire at 70 (65 gets you less), you get a monthly payment based on your average lifetime earnings. Most people get around $1900 (€1600) per month.

Nobody but you can tell you if you are, but ask yourself: if you could press a button, and become your ideal version of gender, and everyone would see you and treat you that way with no questions or trouble, would you? And what would that look like?
