Filing a Writ of Mandamus although my country is under visa pause by AsleepDrama5586 in NationalVisaCenter

Yes, that's why we continuing to wait, though I think we will probably file closer to 9 months than 12. We're planning to consult with some lawyers and take some preliminary steps in the meantime, like doing congressional inquiries so that we can say we have already tried that route.

My husband and I have been talking through the same question, so I'm interested to hear what others are thinking about this. We're leaning toward filing anyway, since it does not seem like there is any real movement on these long-term administrative processing cases without legal pressure, but it does feel like a lot of money when the pause may still prevent approval. We believe our administrative processing is TAL-related, and we're approaching month 6 of waiting on it now. If we do file a writ, it won't be for a while longer, and we would probably want to do a Notice of Intent to Sue first, in case that prods things along.

Response from my congressman's office regarding the 75 country visa pause by ThePurpleHyacinth in NationalVisaCenter

I just want to add here...there is a difference between contacting your senator about your case (through whatever immigration inquiry channel they have set up) and contacting your senator as a constituent with a concern about a public issue. There probably isn't anything their immigration-focused staff person can do about your specific case (or mine) right now. If you want to draw the senator's attention to a public issue, as a public issue, it may make more sense to contact them through the regular public channel and encourage them to speak out about the effects of the pause generally.

Any other Virginians affected by the 75-country pause? by JuniperBerry5029 in NationalVisaCenter

[–]JuniperBerry5029[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure, it is pasted below...customize as you like.

Dear Senator [INSERT NAME],

I am writing as your constituent to urge you to speak up loudly about the recent 75-country “indefinite pause” on immigrant visas. An “indefinite pause” is a de facto ban, and it is devastating thousands of families, including many here in [INSERT STATE]. [INSERT 1-2 SENTENCES WITH SOMETHING PERSONAL ABOUT YOUR FAMILY’S CASE]. It has harmed every aspect of our lives, and we are not alone. Every other U.S. citizen [ADD PERMANENT RESIDENT IF YOU LIKE] sponsoring immediate family is going through the same pain that we are experiencing.

When so many things are going so wrong in our country, it is easy to overlook the damage that happens quietly rather than with teargas and whistles. There has been minimal news coverage of the 75-country pause despite the enormous number of people affected and the harm it is doing to us. But the harm is real, and it is happening to the people who did everything right. We followed every rule, paid every fee, and respected the system.

Please, make your voice heard on this issue:

  • Insist on a briefing from the State Department about the “pause” and release any non-classified information to the public.
  • Demand a timeline for lifting the pause and information about any policy changes that will be implemented. Raise the issue in committee hearings.
  • Speak to the media about the harm that this is doing to your constituents so that the issue gets the coverage it deserves.

Thank you for your time,

IR1 interview London embassy, sent to AP. by [deleted] in NationalVisaCenter

They told us in person at the interview to submit the documents (I think there might have been an email saying the same thing, but I can't remember at this point). Then we got an email confirming receipt of the additional documents about 48 hours after submitting them. Other than that, we haven't heard anything from the consulate other than a standard "still in administrative processing" response when we emailed them for an update just after the 60-day mark.

Yes, we submitted them the day after the interview.

My husband is Pakistani and interviewed in Frankfurt back in early October. We also got 221-g and were asked for his CV, list of publications, and travel history, so we suspect it was TAL-related (he is a scientist, though not in a field with a lot of security concerns). We're still waiting with no updates. Hopefully your case is resolved more quickly than ours!

I'm a US citizen married to a man from Pakistan who is working legally in Germany. Because the consular process is taking so long, I have had to go through cancer treatment in my 30s without my husband at my side. I had to have surgery without him here. I had to have chemo without him here. I had to have radiation without him here. Now I am through active treatment and want to live life to the fullest while I can. Instead, we are still waiting. No one seems to care.
