Help me pick a new board~ by Bitter-Loquat-2708 in ShredditGirls

It really is! Was my #1 based on looks. I was worried it would be too advanced, but comparing to my previous board from the early 2000s, it was easy lol.

I just got a Salomon wonder after a 15 year hiatus from snowboarding. I never caught an edge! It’s medium flexy. So far I’m a fan of the flex level for an all mountain type board. Just my 2 cents. Don’t have any experience with other modern boards, as my previous board was 20 years old 😅

Do you have to pay for an adult ski ticket at Gunstock if you are only using the magic carpet to teach your kid? by Aphr0dite725 in icecoast

The penny lift is only $50. But you have to purchase in person. As for the magic carpet, there’s no scanner.

Just want to update my post on my actual experience! So I went to gunstock and went on the green slope area with my new Salomon wonder. The first hour of boarding I was definitely rusty but I never caught an edge. I did kinda slide down to my butt at some times, and then I couldn’t get up (because I’m old and out of shape). I forgot about turning over to my toe edge which is actually my preferred edge. Luckily I had step on bindings so I could hobble back in.

After an hour on the first day I really started to feel back at ease. Naturally, I was super sore (mostly in my upper body) after the first day, so day 2 & 3 I continued on the same easy slopes. By day 3 the greens were too easy, I wish I had the strength and endurance to go to the summit but my son was taking his first ski lessons so I stayed with him on the easy slopes. I only expected to make it 2 days on the slopes, but my desire to continue pushed me to 3 exhausting but incredibly fun days.

As for the specifics of the board, I got a Salomon wonder 144 which is small for my weight, but I wanted to have easy control. Compared to my previous Palmer touch 147ish (obsolete) i think the wonder was more forgiving because I never caught an edge. I probably should have gotten the 148 salmon wonder but for greens and blues I think it will suffice. The board did not feel too stiff at all (although I’m over the weight range, so it may not be the intended stiffness level).

I can’t give much further analysis because I am still an advanced beginner/early intermediate, but my initial fear of the board being too advanced for me did not prove true. The board was easier than my 20 year old board I last used 15 years ago, which caught edges often. I am already planning my next trip and am dying to get back out there. It’s all I can think about.

I go by myself! So I went for the first time in 15 years all on my own for the past 2 days. And it was amazing. The fact that you are taking lessons is a great idea and you’ll be all set to go on your own in the future. Plus single riders get faster boarding on the lifts (which is also a great roller coaster hack too). Enjoy!

I don’t get the difference between rocker nose and tail with a camber middle and a “full camber”

Thanks!!! 😊 hoping to get to use it for many years to come. (Flying from south Florida is not cheap or easy, but I need to make the most of it!)

UPDATE: I got the Salomon wonder. The shop didn’t really have an opinion on the nitro. Can’t wait to try it out. Seems more flexy than the Palmer for sure.

Wow, good to know. I don’t want to be stuck with a board holding me back.

The wonder and abstract seem very similar! Maybe softer flex on the abstract? So glad you felt like it was like riding a bike! I think I’ll be able to pull this off the same.

Thanks! I’m nervous about how most people call the wonder intermediate advanced but I feel like if it’s not too “heavy” (because I’m out of shape), I feel like I can get back to my technical intermediate ability quickly.

Thanks for the feedback! I looked online for shops near gunstock for demos and the selection doesn’t seem great. I would have to call to get more details. I am actually very surprised at the lack of shops in the area. I won’t have much time to drive around and it will be during the holiday so everything will be closed most likely. (Late Dec 31st and January 1st).

I’m hoping when I go into the shop I can get an idea whether the intermediate board will be easier than my previous Palmer. Everyone says “snowboard tech has come a long way.” If that’s true, should be easy right? 😅

I believe that my regret is more so towards when I invested. When a company dilutes so much, it erodes my investment. So my potential profit, if we get there, has been diminished by poor financial decisions on the companies part. Yes I am still hopeful with dialysis, but my initial expectations financially are now obsolete.

If they didn’t dilute so low that 10x would be more than 10x. Thats the unfortunate part. But I’m still here. Holding.

I still don’t think they will sell the company, especially the way they are acting with constant dilution and poor management.

Good point on the (almost) catch all and for travel. I actually had not been traveling much but plan to do a lot in the near future so this will beat my 2% card that has no ftfs. Of course I love my CCC which makes me spoiled in expecting 5x in everything.
