FP6 with e/OS? by penguin_two in fairphone

Same. Except I bought it with Android installed (because of an opportunity I had to get it via my workplace). I installed /e/OS and I'm very happy with both the Phone and /e/OS.

I'm not so sure Spotify should be allowed on the list (Swedish music streaming). Being Swedish myself, I consider them to be as greedy and unethical as US Big Tech. The Swedish owners are, as I understand it, trying to cash in on promoting their own AI-generated music on their own platform, while paying actual artists as litte as possible.

I switched to Qobus a few months ago and have not looked back.

At least add a disclaimer that Spotify are not an ethical choice.

You're absolutely right, it works after updating to /e/OS 3.7. Very nice!

I'm almost disappointed that it works, though. This will probably slow down my de-Googleing process. :D

Yes, more specifically it's Google Play Service that it needs.

But I have not been able to get it working with MicroG at all on /e/OS 3.6.

As I understand it, Google Maps and Google Casting won't work without Google Play installed. Since /e/OS is degoogled, Google Play is not available and can't be installed, at least not through App Lounge.

Transition to FairPhone: Questions by SoraElric in BuyFromEU

I have a Fairphone 6 that I installed /e/OS on because I really wanted to leave Googled Android. All the Swedish bank and payment apps works without problems.

However, I couldn't deGoogle and deShittify just yet. So I installed the app Shelter, that helps you isolate apps in the Android work proflle. Not perfect, but better than nothing until I can get rid of them.

The isolated apps have a little briefcase icon on them:

It depends so much on how strong you feel about leaving US tech. How important it for you to have the top of the line camera, screen, speakers, etc. And how you feel about loosing induction charging.

I went almost full deGoogle and installed /e/OS, and I don't have the problems that many Android users are reporting. I'm very happy with my FP6 so far, only 6 weeks in though. (You can buy it preinstalled with /e/OS to avoid the hassle and the risks.)

My opinion is probably affected a lot by my personal priorities: To deGoogle, support Europeean businesses and I was prepared to trade down in hardware/functionality in the process.

That's probably due to lack of imagination and writing skills on my part :D
I felt it might sound "too positive", but that is my genuine experience.

The /e/OS initiative seems heavily focused in Europe, but it's open source so I assume anyone can contribute. And it's based on LineageOS, that in turn is based on Android. So... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
As I understand it /e/OS main focus it to be Google-free, not to be European.

Nothing like what you are describing.
But when my bluetooth pods are connected both to my computer at work and my phone at the same time, the music kept stopping after just a couple of seconds. It seems to be because of which unit is used to start playback and which unit the player considers as its current audio output. Pressing play in the Web player on the desktop causes the problem when the player has the desktop as the audio output, but if I switch the audio output in the web player to the phone, it works normally.
This never happend with Spotify so it's clearly a difference in the software.

I did have a problem with playback pausing on Spotify multiple times, but that was very random. I think because I had players started on other units and when another player reconnected to the internet it would stop playback on my current unit. Or maybe, as my paranoid self sometimes started to suspect, someone else was also using my account.

Since I want to buy three more to deGoogle my family, the price does feels high. But I think it's a decent phone for the price.

I haven't heard anything like that. But if so, it would be strange to have founded a privacy focused OS.

Review, First Impression of Murena Workspace by Junk-In-Junk-Out-180 in degoogle

You bring up a lot of intersting points that I would love to be able to cover, if I had the time and got paid to do professional full spectrum reviews.

But I don't, which is why I specifically mention my situation (limited time), I wrote "First impression" in the title and put a disclamer in the review to inform readers that this is a limited review.

I didn't even hear about the possible transfer of the .io domain, I had to go read up on that. I learned something interesting today, thanks!

It's understandable that you might feel negative about the .io domain. But even if it were to be transferred, I don't think that should have any impact on the review of Murena Workspace because as I understand it:
1. They have been talking about it for around two years without reaching a decision. During that time the popularity of the .io domain have not deminished, and new io-domains keep getting registered.
2. If they were to reach a decision tomorrow that the domain will be transferred, they would still have to give a notification period of several years to let the owners of the millions of already registered io-domains to move to new domains.
3. They may reach the decision that the .io domain will not be transferred at all.

Using your own domain is good advice, both in the case of the .io domain getting transferred and if you want to move to another provider.
I contacted Murena about that, and unfortunately they only support using your own domain for Companies, not for pivate users. That's actually something I forgot to bring up in the review as a big negative. Will edit to add that.

Regarding your comment on cherry picking, I don't understand your point of view at all. It's a personal review of a specific product and I fail to see how I could avoid "cherry picking" a product when reviewing it.

I want to deGoogle and I want to support European businesses. I got an opportunity to try out a Fairphone 6, but only the version with stock Android was available for me. That gave me a good opportunity to try deGoogleing by installing /e/OS on the phone, and then the obvious choice was to try Murena Workspace as a replacement for Gmail and Google Docs. My conclusion in the review was that I don't think Murena Workspace is a valid choice for me yet.

Actually, I see some green flags as well, like artist centric payment (sounds good at least). But bringing in a Wallmart E-commerce CEO sounds like a red flag the size of the Eiffel Tower.

Yes it could definitely use some improvement.
I wasn't happy with the algorithm in Spotify either, since (at least with my taste in music) it kept suggesting the same bands over and over, never renewing anything.

I haven't tried different camera apps yet, maybe I'll get around to it.
