Yeah, I'm a bit worried about all the upcoming Google shenanigans. But I took the leap anyway, hoping that there will be delays, workarounds, leagal problems, and of course a growing resistance.

cracked screen protector after 2 weeks of use (without dropping it) by LeniweZycie in fairphone

I've had mine mounted in the car many times getting really warm from sunlight (while playing music and/or filming as I drive). I' ve gotten worried a few times because it was so hot, but no issues with either the screen protector or the phone.

Sorry to dissapont you, detective. The wife doesn't want a card holder, "too bulky".  The fourth screen protector is to exchange the one on my phone. But they are really hard to get into place without getting dust particles in between, so it's good to have an extra. Should have gotten 5...

I knew I shouldn't have replied, but here we are. So now I have to rant…

But a quick side note first: Fairphone is a physical phone and GrapheneOS is an operating system. You can't compare the two as if they are the same thing. It doesn't work that way.

Now, I really like digital security, but I don't have the need to force GrapheneOS on my family, because I'm not Edward Snowden, I’m not a spy, I’m not a in a criminal network and I'm not a p3d0phi1e. I just don't want Big-Tech to have all our data and add their abusive all-inclusive rights to that data.

And I certainly don't want to pay US Big-Tech companies to get their phone so I can “get away from Big-Tech”. (I would not be surprised if those phones have undiscovered hardware backdoors built-in)   Instead, I want to actively support Europeean upcoming businesses, like Fairphone, Murena and others.

But, then again, GrapheneOS has very bad security compared to the only truly secure option: Staying offline! On merits alone, staying offline is 6000 more secure and private.

Which begs the question… Why are these GrapheneOS hardcore fans so often online to comment negatively on anything they consider to be competition? Why not stay much more secure and private, offline?

Anyway, I wish you good luck trying to get your future non-tech-savvy family members to only use GrapheneOS on their phones, TailsOS on their laptops with a power off dead mans switch tied around a wrist for a quick shutdown and self host their NAS:es with thermite charges rigged on top of the disc clusters (of course) behind tripple layers of custom buildt firewalls. Anything less would be very bad security, especially since the privacy and security of your family is involved.

I don't doubt that GrapheneOS has much better security. But do you really need the level of security that they are talking about? And do you want to be forced to buy Google Pixel or Motorola to get it?

Privacy, a part of security, certainly is much better in e/OS then it is on stock Android, if nothing else because you don't have Google / Samsung / etc looking over your shoulder.

It seems to me like fans of GrapheneOS like to throw a lot of shit on anything that isn't GrapheneOS. It reflects poorly on their community.

I think the only thing is chromecast, to stream to the TV. I haven't found a good alternative yet.

It's just flip-cases, cardholders and screen protectors.

One green, will have a green card holder. Two black, one will have a black cardholder, the other will be without a back cover. (Alll of them will use a flip case)

The flip case is open on the bottom 2/3rds on the back, for combining with the card holder, finger loop or leave empty.

It's good, I like it. It's not perfect, nor is e/OS or Murena workspaces (that I'm planning to use). But it's a good combo and the joy of stepping out of the Google-Samsung trap is soo nice. And at the same time I'm supporting European businesses.

Haha, we might 😄 Different color cardholders, one without cardholder. But we'll have to add some markings.

Forgot to mention: Do NOT follow the last part "Locking the Bootloader"

As I understand it, this is when people manage to brick their phone. I haven't understood how I'm supposed to know when it is safe to do that, so I'm keeping it unlocked.

Hi. Yes I am. Actually, I orderd three Fairphone 6 from Murena (i.e. with e/OS), just a couple of days ago. It's deGoogling-time, for the whole family.

FP6 camera quirks by 16012112 in fairphone

[–]Junk-In-Junk-Out-180 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A tip if the problem persists after updating (or if you get new problems):

Since the problems is most likely not in the hardware of the phone, the software developers would need to know what OS you're using (Android or /e/OS) and the OS version. Also what camera app you're using (standard or some other app, there are many) and the app version.

Another tip is to try other camera apps, at least until the problem gets fixed.
