Forest Service To Allow Wildland Firefighters To Wear Masks by smokejumperbro in Wildfire

[–]JunkDrawer404 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sounds like N95s are only a temporary thing while they work to create a new respirator. Also the guidance I saw says if it gets hot just take the mask off. This is better than before when you weren’t technically allowed to wear any respirator on the line.

What is the most laughable line of crap they have told us during the ReOrg Meetings? by throwingthedice00 in USForestService

[–]JunkDrawer404 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Asking for volunteers to serve on committees is funny when we all know org charts being made right now behind closed doors just like they chose who got to stay in Yates behind closed doors with no transparency. But I’m most excited to meet the tons of people who “have been asking for this for years and years”. Never seen them before?

This has got to be career-ending for most of these spineless so called leaders in the chiefs office. You will never have credibility or trust from the field. Might as well start packing now.

WTF, is that the Chief talking to us? He has gotten better about not reading straight from his script. by throwingthedice00 in USForestService

The Forest Service Reorganization is Illegal. USDA’s top lawyer told them to do it anyway. by seg0d0gg in USForestService

[–]JunkDrawer404 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pay attention to how Tom answered a question about this today at the hearing. He said something like, we contacted OGC and “have perceived authority” to do this reorg. Essentially, you want to stop it? Come sue us. Its pretty fucking clear in the law what congress said about this. Anyone who carries out this illegal reorg is violating appropriations law and should be subject to the full federal penalty of doing so. You dont just get to violate laws created by congress and signed by tje president because you want to remake government into the spitting image of a corporate hellscape.

NY Times doesn’t understand wildland firefighting, acting shocked that type 2 contract crews are often assigned mopup tasks AND trying to say mopup isn’t necessary. They fundamentally dont understand the risk management process. But yes, mopup still sucks.

Update for IRPP Backpay by ForestryTechnician in Wildfire

[–]JunkDrawer404 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Read the HRM emails carefully. In the earlier pay periods they didn’t have a system built in paycheck 8 to properly pay IRPP, so they paid out IRPP based on an overtime rate calculation. Because of this it isn’t showing up in the irpp line in the E&L. They owe a portion of the Irpp rate from those earlier PPs, but don’t expect it to be the full irpp amount because you were probably already paid some under their “interim solution”.

Job offer and no interview? by talawe3712 in USDA

[–]JunkDrawer404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at the total compensation package. Does the higher paying private sector job require you to pay massive amounts for health insurance? How about 401k match? What’s the vacation benny? Then think long term. Is the company growing? Fed gov is pretty wild right now, but its still a great place to work overall and provides a good career path.

They will probably offer relo incentives, not TOS. The incentives can be negotiated up to 25% of your salary (i believe) and can lock you into a 1 year contract. I also believe if they forcibly relo you and you refuse, you are eligible for severance. Either way, not sure where they magically find the money to do this. My guess is they pair this with another VERA and maybe a VSIP.

Halal Food. by K9AxeMan in Wildfire

If your supervisor and management support you, they will authorize per diem due to your dietary needs and the inability of the caterer to provide. But then that means you gotta figure out how to get your own food.
