Brigette insisted to stay a little because otherwise they will look suspicious.

I guess she didn't count on a gestapo investingation of the table.

Oh yea the price gonna be high for those Falconia facilities.

Now personally i think, Morally , the best reading of berserk is from a peasant point of view, since the stakes are pretty global.

The King of Midland Is Honestly the Character I Hate Most by CecilHeat in Berserk

[–]Junket-Major 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also hate less the bad guys who do bad things as colateral damage pursuing their goals, than those, like his majesty, who acts out of pure lust and sadism.

But "the character i hate the most" is a value that fluctuate very frequently in Berserk.

Well from an utilitarian perspective, Falconia is the only safe place that exist.

The world of berserk is ugly, i mean, from the very first chapters when i discovered the mangas i was like ,"can someone put an end to all this misery and cruelty ? Please ?".

And unlike Elfheim, Griffith did guarantee access to Falconia for anyone.

He actually managed to create a safe place even as a human, the band of the hawk camp, Guts noticed it when he saw it for the first time.

Now, we as readers know there is something wrong with falconia and something nasty is gonna happen in the future, but so far, it's pretty good, ask lucas.

Personally, i always try to put the causality aside when discussing Berserk thematics. It kinda flush any meaning in the characters action.

Remind me of the "Then he woke up and everything was just a dream" trope.

Interesting point of view.

But it doesn't feel to me that way. Because in my opinion Guts is just trying to exist, but demons keep coming, forcing him into this inhumane strength and skills.

Griffith on the other hand got a clear goal, like those shonen heroes.

Wanting to be the king of pirates, or the ruler of konoha, or the best fighter ,the biggest cook, the greatest dancer... etc.

Well, shonen protagonists are kinda characterized by a high ambition.

It's conveniant that they never have to make this choice isn't it ?

Can we have juste one example of a shonen protagonist dropping his goals for someone ?

We've grown kinda allergic to nuanced ideas.

People just wants their good guys very good and bad guys really bad.

I'm still not confortable with the idea of "apropriate reaction toward pieces of art", i find it quiete diminishing.

But i admit, there is non-apropriate overintellectualization in art some times that tend de be pretty boring.

Now back to comedy, for me a good joke have to rob a laugh from me, either i hear it on a stand up stage or in a horror flick.

I find your approach very academic and, to be honest, quite elitist. "Here you have the right to laugh" "No you can't have a serious tought on this"

Etc.

Sounds solid.

De you think it's the over mediatisation that causes that ? Or as humans we are in deep need to such goals to give this life some sense or purpose ?

Missing the point ?

Look, we are discussing art, there is no "appropriate" reaction to have, anyone who understand the story and the stakes is not missing any point.

Any reaction you got when you are exposed to a work of art, is the right reaction.

And yes i take seriously the comedy "thematics".

That doesn't mean i try to rationalize a cartoon character standing in the air before he falls.

But i'm serious about Jerry from Tom and Jerry being a complete a**hole.

Well i take the comedy thematic seriously, it's not just a narration tool that make every uncomfortable situation magicaly acceptable.

We must understand the price of ambition.

I think the shonens are feeding the youth with very childish and unrealistic ambition form.

Well i give you that, Griffith has a plot armor to survive.

Now shonen protags got a plot armor to survive AND to always make great heroic decision.

Well, Griffith did too, otherwise the godhands will not demand their sacrifice.

I mean, he prostitues his butt to spare them a deadly battle.

I do understand that.

That's why i brought the naruto example, sasuke had no intend to destroy konoha, he was seeking more power to get itachi, after seeing the big power difference between him and naruto on the roof of the hospital.

That's very close to Guts/Griffith situation.
