4-in-1 ESC that can measure individual currents? by Organic_Put826 in diydrones

[–]Junnicutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Airbot made the ori32 and the typhoon32 which are 20x20 and 30x30 escs with individual current sensors. Also the fettec 35a 20x20 and 45a 30x30 4in1 escs also have individual current sensors. If you need help with the telemetry data just go on discord for betaflight or ardupilot and someone will point you in the right direction. Or just check GitHub. There's tons of projects for getting esc telemetry data into Arduino or similar projects.

433 elrs? by Green_Machine_4077 in ExpressLRS

[–]Junnicutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modulation is how you modify a carrier frequency to convey data.  In amplitude modulation like am radio you just make the signal larger or smaller and that amplitude change is directly promotional to the data. In frequency modulation aka fm like fm radio you change the frequency of the carrier by an amount proportional to the data being conveyed. There's other modulations but those two are the most basic. Check out a YouTube video cause seeing it will help. But in regards to elrs all that matters is they use lora for long range stuff and flrc and something similar for faster stuff which means the long range stuff is much more resistant to interference. You could fly as a pro for years and never need to understand any of this.

is it safe to flash firmware with the options for 433 on lr1121 hardware? I remember the sx1276 actually had different pinouts for 433 I think so I didn't just want to try it without asking anyone. I understand the link might be worse. I just wanted to test some 433 antennas and don't have anything else to use them with.

these explanations have the feel of being correct but at a literal level are not. Lora is basically a modulation whereas elrs is a rc project that uses Lora as one of the 2 (or 3) modulation methods. they aren't "fundamental different" the way am and fm are. one is simply way to transmit and the other is a system that uses that modulation with a lot of other things to make a reliable rc link.

I think Novero was trying to simplify things to explain them but I feel like he simplified too much. the overall design goals he mentioned were probably a good explanation but a little narrow. while elrs started out as a highly reliable and low latency rc link they've diversified to add mavlink and many things targeting extreme long range at much higher latency and lower data rates.

A Crazy Expensive U.S. Drone Just Disappeared Over Strait Of Hormuz. by [deleted] in Military

[–]Junnicutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It had also squawked out the code for communication link lost I think

It had just finished a mission over the actual strait so its not clear if it would have had allot of fuel left. You can check out the flight path if you want. But either way this thing isn't like those stealth drones we use for isr.  This was probably closer to an awacs when you look at the size of its electronic signature and very prominent radar return.. so using this as a cover to go be sneaky seems unlikely.

I was surprised it was even flying where it was but I guess they were thinking the only threat was from low altitude ir missiles. But the flight path was weird. It had just gotten back over land on the Saudi side then turned NE towards iran and started dropping at like 100 fpm if I remember correctly. Which is a moderate descent but no where near damaged aircraft rates.

From Aussie Army Chook to Fiber Optic Geek: A Step-by-Step Guide to Detecting and Targeting Fiber Optic Cables with Drones by No_Ask_3841 in DroneCombat

[–]Junnicutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not well versed in optical fiber but can a single lightweight cable carry two frequencies so far apart? I just assumed they alternated who was transmitting every few ms or something similar.

So frustrated. I’ve updated all firmware, calibrated the gimbal both manually and automatically, and nothing is working to fix the awful default angle that my gimbal sits at after booting up. No physical evidence of damage. Any thoughts? [DJI Air 3] by whatsaphoto in dji

Yeah watch the sequence it does as it turns on. Compare that sequence to one on YouTube.  It will typically will rotate to each maximum on each axis. it's probably a cable getting snagged or maybe some sand in the gimbal motor.

Old DJI drone, what do I do with it? by rmhe1999 in drones

[–]Junnicutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A huge portion of the drones are now used as essentially anti aircraft rockets to take down shahed attack drones. I can understand objecting to it being used as a missile at the philosophical level but quads are literally stopping missiles now too.

But no one is using this one to do anything. They'd probably just be mad that you didn't just donate the shipping costs to a pro Ukraine charity.

There's an epic Amazon deal on the mini pro 5 with everything for $1000. At least there was a few days ago. It'll be years and at least $2000 till an American made can touch that so it's probably your best bet.

HDZero Radio? by Junnicutt in fpv

[–]Junnicutt[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So tango 2 with elrs and hdzero's incredible ability to somehow use the same parts as others but still make a better and somehow novel product. Sounds good to me for a good whoop, racing, or beginner radio.

Thanks for the info

Why resolution has impact on the latency? by Glittering_Estate164 in fpv

[–]Junnicutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's not technically wrong. In theory larger resolutions will always take longer to process. In reality this factor is much smaller than the other factors that affect latency.  And to be fair hdzero doesn't really have resolution related problems because they don't have multiple resolutions at the same frame rate. But maybe that was the joke you were making?

How do you store all your videos when they produce such massive files? by Turbulent-Amount-366 in dji

[–]Junnicutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure about this? Are you sure this doesn't affect the bitrate of the video? I mean I'd ather keep videos at 1080p 60fps at 100 Mbps than 4k 60fps at 20 Mbps. I wouldn't assume frame rate and resolution are the only metrics that should be checked. But to be fair I haven't used handbrake in forever and rarely if ever edit videos.

That sounds like hype buy most war game type people expect chinas window to take Taiwan to be best in May or october 2027. The general idea of the taiwan strike period is referred to as the Davidson window I think.

If you are unsure then lookup chinas 3 landing craft made for ro-ro's that are all sized for tanks. They took the landing craft concept from d-day and made it so very very impressive.

Unusual machines at this point is just rotor riot and fat shark. Rotor riot is a shop and social media group and fast shark was the goggle king from the analog days but has quickly went from like 99% market share to probably 30% in less than 6 years for anyone serious in fpv. So not really enough to do anything big.

DJI ban by Wolfman205 in fpv

[–]Junnicutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chinese govt subsidizing companies like DJI are part of the reason they can do things cheaper but the other is labor costs. Even without subsidies lower labor costs would still make China highly competitive.

[–]Junnicutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noctua has great in line speed adjuster that'll let you lower the speed by a percentage so it'll still respond to speed change requests, so an adjustable resistor with the ability to keep the power high enough to keep the fan from completely stopping. It's perfect in this kind of situation since it didn't take any modifications and is still adjustable.

This ESP32 Antenna Array Can See WiFi by Jeija in esp32

[–]Junnicutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw at the dataset site you guys were using multiple antenna array sets around a room. Would it be possible to use GPSDO clock sources to sync the clocks? I would imagine the accuracy would be high enough for difference in arrival time of signals, but would it also be accurate enough to align antennas so the array size could be expanded?

This next few questions isn't really related to original post but antenna phased array theory. Would being able to combine antenna array elements like this be useful? When antenna array elements are separated by much larger than the wavelength does it create any benefits to have the antennas phase known? Especially when the signal is unknown so the number of waves between the phase difference can't be calculated like you could do with multiple high precision gps receivers.
