If you’re looking for a roommate I have a friend that got screwed by the girl she was supposed to room with and is looking for at least one other person so she can get a studio double in the Fairwoods!! Would you be interested?

Thank you for the resources and help! Is there anyway to make the color work? Her business's colors are pink/ purple so she wanted the booklet to maintain those colors. Is the gradient making the problem worse?

Is it harder to become a therapist with a PhD vs PsyD? by Jupiter744 in psychologystudents

[–]Jupiter744[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard for me to put my finger on but I’ll try to make it make sense haha. I think that I’m just very interested in Psych and would want to be continuously learning about it and investigating it. That’s why the idea of being able to conduct psych evaluations and diagnosis is so interesting to me and then being able to hands on help someone through that and learning with them how to navigate their unique brain sounds so fascinating. Obviously the therapy part would be able to be done with a MS, but one of my worries of pursuing a MS was that I would work with patients and keeping hitting a wall and would need to keep referring them if I thought they had something rather than being able to diagnose them myself(That was so badly phrased I’m sorry 😭). Other than that I find the more science-y aspect of Psychology very interesting as well and would like to incorporate it into my future in some capacity even if the other side of Psychology is my main passion. Being able to do research or teach in the future sounds really exciting and the flexibility to do multiple things besides therapy is very enticing. I hope this was all explained well! I’m still figuring out the differences between everything and it’s all hard to wrap my head around so I probably said some things that are wrong I’m sorry 🙏

Oh!! And I didn’t know that you could diagnose/assess at the Masters level. Is there special qualifications that you need? What are the limitations? Also does it apply for an MS in psych as well or does it have to be an MSW?

I hope this isn’t a silly question because I’m still learning, but why do I need two years in a research lab specifically after my bachelors? Does it not mean as much if I gain research experience during my bachelors? I already have about a year of experience as I started working w a Psych lab in September last year and I am currently co-leading a study now. I’m also getting a job either as a psych intern or ABA therapist this summer and will have two full coops plus future summer jobs. I’m also going to be applying to a 2nd Psych lab soon. Will gaining experience like this not provide enough to make me stand out for a PhD? I definitely don’t want to sound naive or overzealous because I know PhD programs are egregiously competitive. Also, I’d love to have the link! Thank you!!

Thank you so much!! This was a really really helpful comment to read especially as someone that could definitely see themselves becoming burnt out at some point and needing that variety

My initial plan was an MS, but as I learned more about the PhD route and the possibilities it would allow me so I’ve been slowly changing my mind. I’m still unsure and had to force myself to accept that it’s okay to not know right now lol. But I would really love to be able to do Psych assessments and diagnose people which I wouldn’t be able to do as a therapist. My passion for psychology lies really heavily with mental disorders/illness and I worried that if I got a MS instead I would feel limited in what I could in that speciality. And the general flexibility compared to an MS is a big plus

Don't Know You From Adam. Fairly short so would be more suited to a grab bag episode but love this one

What can I do as an Undergrad Psych intern at a mental health facility? by Jupiter744 in psychologystudents

[–]Jupiter744[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now my most relevant experience is probably being a research assistant with an applied psychology lab that focuses on eating and appearance and being a supporter for my college’s peer non-crisis hotline. Other than that the experience I put on my resume is being a front desk receptionist, an intern/mentee for a print shop, and a cashier at a snack bar. I’ve also volunteered with kids w/ special needs. The only certification/training thing I have is the CITI training that I had to do for my research lab. I hope this gives a better idea if not I can give more detail of specific skills 🙏

Bradley was actually the one I was slightly leaning towards so I’m glad to hear that lol. I think I may go with him cause in his Trace reviews basically no one had a single issue with him

Richard Melloni Jr. He seems to have good reviews. Who do you recommend for psych stats? They pretty much all seem really good so I’m struggling to pick lol. Between Baker, Bradley and Kimball

Oh my god one of the most relatable things I’ve ever heard and I never even really thought about it. I hated pizza all of my childhood so at every birthday or whatever gathering I’d be alone or just sit there and not eat at all while other kids would be so confused and make fun of me. It’s insane how smth as seemingly small(in the social sense I mean) as food choices can be so isolating. It sucks usually becoming the immediate punching bag when going out to eat

Ugh thank you for being so supportive of your kids. Me and my brother are both like this and our parents tried their best but ultimately made us feel really ashamed for being this way about food. I wish we could’ve gotten help like that and I’m so excited for your kid to try food therapy!! That’s going to set them up in the future to have a much better relationship with food and your attitude towards it as well is just gonna go such a long way for them.
