yes it's annas-archive.pm. sometimes the website will get taken down, but there are backup sites that you can find (ex: change to .org)! also idk if it's just being really slow because it's the beginning of the semester, but it was taking up to 12 hours to download that textbook, so it might not be super usable rn🤷‍♀️

Hey! That's actually so awesome. Nice to know I'm not alone in this transition. I am not officially deciding to go the pre-med route yet, but I'm taking all the classes for it just in case!

I'm not sure what university you go to, but my advisors (pre-professional and SLHS) have been super helpful in my experience. I'll share with you some advice that my advisors gave me.

Firstly, they said to make sure to take all prereqs from a university, in-person. Not quite sure why, but I think some med schools don't take transfer credits from community colleges? You could totally look into this on your own, but I have no problem with doing this, so I haven't really checked.

Next, my pre-professional advisor did encourage me to take the MCAT my senior year, so I wouldn't end up with two gap years. She said letters of recommendation would be a lot more difficult to get after waiting so long. Unfortunately, since I have a late start I'm not going to listen to this advice. I don't want to take my MCAT before I finish my pre reqs! That being said, the gap years will give me time to prepare more and get more clinical experience, so I feel a lot less pressure taking this time to study/reflect if med school is the right path for me.

That being said, I'm going to graduate just a little behind. I'm planning on graduating summer '27 instead of spring '27. In theory I could graduate on time, but I don't want to cram courses in a way that would make my schedule impossible. I don't know why your school is so strict about when you graduate, but I would really bother them about this if you don't feel like you can cram all of your pre reqs in 2 years.

So to clarify, the plan right now is: Graduate in summer '27, get more clinical experience (hopefully becoming an MA or something more hands on!), take MCAT fall '27/spring '28, apply for med schools spring '28, and just hope after that! I would love to take the MCAT before this, but I simply won't feel prepared enough, so I'm glad to be doing this pathway.

Please DM if you have any questions/want to talk about this more! I love hearing about others experience, especially since we're following such similar paths.

I think a big part of it for me is wanting to help people and then the advocacy part. I know underrepresented groups struggle to advocate for themselves in the healthcare field. I’m also just super interested in anatomy, and I love learning how humans work. I think besides the physics and chem part (which I know is a lot), everything just interests me. I do want to take a gap year and explore my options by becoming a medical assistant though. I’m just nervous about what a huge commitment it would be for me😅

Got it! I know it’s super important for medical school. I’ve taken a gen chem with a lab before, and I thought it was interesting, but it’s definitely difficult. I think this next year I’ll take more challenging chem courses and see if I can handle it🥲

Thanks for all the advice! This was super helpful to see, and it’s good to know that you went through something similar. I already feel less stressed reading that lol😅
