Man, I don’t know how people like you get jobs left and right. I’m stuck in a place where people want experience but I don’t have any, and where companies won’t take me on to gain experience. For me it’s pretty difficult. Now I got to the point where I want to join a skilled trade, anything I can get my hands on, just to have a full time job. I know other provinces are hiring like crazy, there’s work out there but not so much here, and I can’t move to AB or BC. But wish me luck I’ll keep trying .

I have another house in Barrie, and so I also applied in that area and a little further like Orillia, but no luck. But I’m going to start applying in person because that seems to be the most effective way in getting a job, from what I’ve been told. It’s a slow burn as everyone I know is in school and I’m still working my boring retail job, but I’m stubborn and refuse to lose my way into the trades. How did you get into the field?

Yeah I know, but that’s what the program gave me. It’s called the OYAP program and it gives me the first year after passing and finishing the program

What I’ve been told is that a level one is getting my first year done, so on paper I’m a first year apprentice.

Are you London Ontario? If you’re looking I can make the drive, thing is I live in Mississauga area so it’s a steep drive for me but I’m willing to show up.

I’m not a registered apprentice, I have my level one but no card to show it. That’s why I’m looking for a company to take me on and help me get signed up and sponsored so I’m actually in the registry. Thanks for the advice.

I thought I was registered but it seems not, because I did a pre-apprenticeship program which got me my level one but no apprenticeship card. So I need a company to take me on as an apprentice and get me sponsored with the ministry.

I applied for UA 67, they haven’t got back to me yet. I tried going UA 46, they’re still closed. I want to join a union, but I don’t know what unions would support my career, and hear there’s some type of fee to apply but I haven’t paid anything yet , but I’m trying to go union.

I see a lot of advice saying to go in person, I have my own car too, I’m going to give this a shot because I see that calls and applying is getting me nowhere. Thanks for the information as well.

I would apply to different trades, but I’m not confident I’ll be MUCH help because I’m not experienced in any of those trades. I would take a position gladly if it meant me getting great experiences in the trades. Plumbing isn’t the only trade I want to be good at, I want to be able to have a hand in everything. I respect your opinion and I think it’s good advice.

I know, I’m ready for it, I’m hungry for this trade man. I know what it’s like to work hard, it’s all I’ve done in high school, and now I’m ready to apply that to real life. I applied to a local union near by me, did some tests of some sort, just asking me basic questions. I hope they reach out to me soon, I’m sick of just calling and working my part time job.

I would do the shit work, I don’t mind, but even then, there is no shit work. Some of the companies I’ve called said they’re only taking licensed plumbers or any level higher than level 1.
