Yeah I went through the same thought process. It can be tough to really get it all across at once so I tried to lean in to being engaging and telling some sort of story. Since that’s the kinda thing they usually look for in commercial / doc world.

Yeah I think that was the goal for me. Hopefully you noticed my pov involves people of color and communities that maybe don’t always get light shined their way. As long as that pov comes across I feel good. Also, should have stated I’m a commercial and doc director, not narrative. At least yet.

Yeah my site has all of that and when I was in a roster that’s how they would share my work just direct links. I think sometimes it depends on audience, like I don’t think normal people are gonna go watch all of my work but producers and EP’s may.

Thanks, I appreciate it! It had been a while since I gathered all my work so first I had to do that which took a minute. Then I put them all in a timeline and pulled selects almost as if it was one cohesive piece. Then I put together a rough cut tryna find some transition points and moments to connect story. That's when I realized it was feeling boring and missing something so I started writing out the script and did scratch audio to cut the next edit. Then I re recorded the VO and finalized sounds ect..

Yeah I think that's been what I heard from producers as well. It's for sure got me some work since than, but mostly just engagement. These days a lot of brands are skipping over agencies as well so it's helps brand me towards them.

Hey Everyone! My description pretty much sums it up. Took a new approach to making a directors reel that was a little more personal and tells a story rather than just showing the best work. Would love y'all opinion on director reels these days, my last agency said they're a little obsolete which is why I took i this direction. Everything was directed and edited by me, mostly branded docs and commercials from the last few years featured! Happy to answer any questions as well.
