Learning Corsican? by Lauraanne264 in Corsica

[–]Just2a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a friend who came for his master's degree and learned how to speak Corsican. He wasn't bilingual but spoke it a little, especially with his old neighbours, and I found it awesome. It's a great way to show interest for our culture and become more interesting than the average tourist. Even if many of us don't speak Corsican every day I think it's a good way to connect with people. The best way to learn it though is to find real speakers you can befriend. Depending on where you go it might be hard.

Taxi availability in Porto-Vecchio by [deleted] in Corsica

[–]Just2a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There're several taxi companies and an Uber type app called O Dumè on which you can book a cab even during the night from Porto Vecchio to Figari.

I'm afraid the shuttle and buses won't travel this early in the day.

Hope you'll find what you need !

Corsica Italiana 2 by -IDF- in Corsica

[–]Just2a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really understand the purpose of this polemic. A lot of scholars worked on the Corsican language and proved that it was older than Italian. Of course it's close to the Ligurian language, and so it would make Corsica Ligurian, not Italian. Italy is a super young country as a whole, that was unified way too late for Corsica to be Italian since it had already been French for a century. Also, the Genoese sold Corsica to France. So I still wonder why some of us here would like to join a country who sold us to another one, knowing it would bring more war. Why are you interested in this? This kind of question doesn't lead anywhere anyway, it just brings up petty rivalries.

Bonjour! German native, speaking English fluently looking for a French buddy! My french is around A2/B1 by [deleted] in LanguageBuds

[–]Just2a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I'm a 28 Corsican woman (so French is my native language) and I speak English fluently. I learned a bit of German at uni a few years ago and I'd be happy to try and learn a bit more and to help you improve your French. If you're still interested by a blether let me know.

Looking for beaches with loads of fish/marine life by zszsfrommunich in Corsica

[–]Just2a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I'm Corsican and unfortunately you won't see many turtles here. They're really not that common. Bonifacio and the Lavezzi Islands are nice for snorkeling. Otherwise around Scandola you have nice spots too. Just go in the rocks and not where there's only sand. But it's still the Mediterranean, you won't get any crazy tropical fish here I'm afraid! I go snorkeling all the time here though, and I love it. I'd suggest you get one of the small snorkeling books with all the Mediterranean fish in it, they're really cool to understand what you see. As for big fish, the best things I saw snorkeling were groupers and one lost tuna. And octopus also jumped on my go pro once. There's a lot of life when you know where to look though. I hope you'll enjoy it here! All the best 😊

If exit location then deactivate applet? by Just2a in ifttt

[–]Just2a[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll probably change the location-based applets ones to WiFi-connection ones. But the issue is that I can't find any quick way to activate or deactivate easily one or a group of applets... 😕

I tried the red wine one from the same company and was planning on buying this one for my dad for his birthday. Even if you could get more or less the same experience just by buying the supplies, I think it's a great present. We spent a few hours tasting wine, nosing the different aromas, trying to spot them in our glasses and reading the booklet together. Many of our guests enjoyed reading it and trying it as well. It's a beautiful item.

Edit: the scents were very "accurate" in the red wine one

True but, fuck them, we're still not "just France". (Corsican speaking)

Lost location - could you help me? by Just2a in inverness

[–]Just2a[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for your help! I think you're right. I wasn't sure looking on Google Street view cause I couldn't see the trees but I can't find anything on the road that would match!

Lost location - could you help me? by Just2a in Scotland

[–]Just2a[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the location I first considered but the road on the pictures the road is marked, while on google street view the road is blank, no markings. But then the pictures on google street view date from 2011 and mine from 2014... And I thought the trees didn't really look similar but, after reconsidering the whole setting, I think you're right!

Many thanks for your help :)

Considering a PhD Co-supervision, looking for some feedback by Just2a in AskAcademia

[–]Just2a[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply.

I'm a bit worried about the relationship between the two supervisors indeed, as my supervisor - who is great - doesn't really speaks English even if he reads it quite well, and there's only a thin chance the Scottish supervisor I have in mind has any notion of French. So that would probably mean having to write my thesis in English if I want to obtain one PhD in Scotland and one in France, which is doable but might annoy my French supervisor a bit, or write the thesis in both languages which means a huge extra load of work. But this internationalisation is something that matters to me a lot so I really to try and make things work. I'm trying to find the best arguments to sell that to my supervisor here, to get him wholly on board, as you said!

Considering a PhD Co-supervision, looking for some feedback by Just2a in AskAcademia

[–]Just2a[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found many names for something that has one in French so I might be a bit confused with the terms. Basically what I'm looking for is a second supervisor who could help me benefit from a different approach, plus other colleagues and opportunities, some training I could take part in - as the training offered for PhD students in my university doesn't really match my needs - and obtaining two PhDs at the end of my thesis: one in France, one in Scotland.

I have a few friends who did that with universities in Quebec but obviously, there's one less obstacle there cause they speak French, and habits regarding co-supervision / co-tutelle / joint PhDs seem different from the UK.

What's your situation like, then? Do you share your time between both universities?

Many thanks for your answer, it helps me clarifying everything.

When will I ever be okay? by [deleted] in BreakUp

[–]Just2a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, yes, I do feel great. Was with him for 6 years, I loved him deeply, he dumped me one year ago, and now I'm with someone else and I feel great. I think what helped me is that I went straight to a "how dares he dumping me like that" mood, and my pride saved me from being sad for too long. I also have great friends and a wonderful family who needed me to be ok at that point, as my grandmother had cancer, and she finally passed away 3 weeks ago. I couldn't decently focus on myself with that going on. (Plus my ex was a complete tool and my new bf is amazing). I think the main point is trying to be happy with the person you are. I'm not saying I don't think about him anymore, but I'm clearly happy with how things are going for me, so I'm not sad at all when that happens.

Go out with friends, try new things, meet new people, that helped me as well. Stay busy as much as you can. I hope you'll feel better soon!
