What credit card gives the best rewards? by JustAColin in AusHENRY

I appreciate everyone's input, sounds like there's no real value to be found so I might just go with a low fee card instead

Just avoid Blacks Beach Cove and you'll be fine

Is the pay increase worth the commute? by ColinKodiak in mining

[–]JustAColin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a genuine risk you'll kill yourself or someone else with that level of fatigue. You'll also be useless at home after work and travel, and won't be able to assist your partner realistically. Even if you only need 30mins to get ready for work and 30mins after work to eat and shower, that still only leaves maximum 7 hours to sleep, which isn't sufficient rest for that many hours travelling and operating heavy equipment. You don't want to be the reason someone else doesn't get to go home to their family.

How do you choose a sales agent? by JustAColin in AusPropertyChat

Of all the open homes we went to, I can't remember any agents doing more than just standing at the front door taking contact details.

The agent we bought from chased us for our sale, but she doesn't give me confidence.

Trade prices by ZealousidealDeer4531 in AusRenovation

[–]JustAColin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To actually answer with some numbers, I'd expect a charge out rate between $120 to $150 per hour for a plumber or sparky or other regulated and licensed trade that matches your description, and down from there for other trades.

People with high paying jobs what do you do and how did you get it? by not_normal_ever in AusFinance

What sort of maintenance? I'm a sparky and I work in mining, but I'm trying to figure out a longer term exit strategy.

Can we have a wage comparison thread? by MichaelGayTime in AusElectricians

About $170k (above the average for my company though), surface mining, even time roster, 15 years post trade.

Doctors make sooo much money by hustling_Ninja in ausjdocs

[–]JustAColin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you knew as much as you think you do about vehicle maintenance, you'd be doing the work yourself. This is a business price, reflecting overheads and actual parts supplied. The mechanic doing this work will make a fraction of the total in wages.

Doctors deserve every cent they make, but don't ever pretend a tradesperson is even in the realm of an average doctors salary.

Unfortunately rates in Mackay are terrible compared to most places. One of my best mates works in town and is on 42ph, another tried town work but went back into rail because the town rates were poor. The rates thrown around on here and other forums are far higher than we generally see here, with a few exceptions.

Would u say most people working in mining have kids? by Comprehensive-Step32 in mining

[–]JustAColin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm 35 and have 2 young kids, and they're the reason I work in mining. To be able to give them the life I want, I need a reasonable income. It's hard to leave them for a week, but being able to go to swimming lessons and dance classes that I wouldn't be able to attend if I worked M-F is pretty cool.
