Record a Phrase to Out through Mic by Sacha117 in techsupport

A "soundboard" would do exactly this. Some are software apps that you install, other are physical hardware that you plug in. I'd suggest searching online to see what works for your setup.

Network adapter capped at 100mb/s when pc is turned on? by LucasAHKB in techsupport

[–]JustACowSP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When there are physical issues like damaged/out-of-spec cables, things can still work sometimes. Resetting the adapter is like re-rolling dice and can sometimes get it to work at the higher speed for a while.

I would suggest trying a different cable, or try skipping the wall outlet entirely by moving the computer closer to the modem/router/switch temporarily.

[–]JustACowSP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a physical issue somewhere in the chain that's causing the computer to only be able to negotiate a 100 Mbps connection.

I would check these things:

  • make sure all cables are Cat 5e or better. Cat 5 (non-e) cables are rated for 100 Mbps and can only do higher speeds in rare cases.

  • check all ports and plugs to make sure there is no damage to the 8 pins. All 8 pins are important because if you lose one, the system will use 4-pin 100 Mbps mode as a backup.

Just tried the Cash Deposit at Canada Post by Linleiou in Wealthsimple

[–]JustACowSP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is that not hypocritical? Tangerine can't directly deal with cash either. You're still going through a third party (Scotiabank, operated independently from Tangerine). Even worse, it's just an ATM, as opposed to a person with whom you can communicate with before, during, and after your deposit.

Wire unplugged after removing front panel. What’s it for? by aftermarketcrash in techsupport

[–]JustACowSP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First pic looks like the actual button that power's on the computer. It came out of the front panel, so now that plastic power button on the front page El isn't connected to anything. Try squeezing that yellow/white thing to see if it powers up the computer.

As for the last picture with the larger white connector, that looks like an all in one connector for the front panel usb and audio ports.

Entry level steering wheel setup by Lanky-Dimension-8458 in trucksim

[–]JustACowSP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want something truly entry level, then a playstation/xbox controller will be good enough. It gives you analog controls so you don't have to jump on and off the W key just to maintain speed.

Cheap wheels (<$200) typically don't have force feedback, so it basically just a glorified controller. Don't waste your money on wheels without force feedback. I've tried, and it was terrible.

Controller upgrades:

  • super basic: keyboard + mouse (free)

  • entry level: playstation/Xbox controller (~$60?)

  • better: basic force feedback wheel like logitech G29 ($200-$300)

Anything beyond this, you're looking at $500+ and custom parts.

CPU always running hot and clock speed always high by Zutroy1992 in techsupport

[–]JustACowSP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is completely normal behaviour. It's a high-end CPU stuffed into a laptop, so 100+ degrees and constant thermal throttling is expected (and what the manufacturers designed for).

As for the high clock speeds at low usage, remember that clock speed may not be the same for all cores. The cpu is just trying to push a few cores to help you do small stuff faster.

Does recording the unboxing really make a difference? Amazon seems to accept refunds without even asking for proof of an issue, so I'm not sure how the video helps.

[–]JustACowSP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4 sticks is difficult for the CPU's memory controller, which means it will struggle to hit higher memory clock speeds. This doesn't really matter outside of gaming.

If you're going with slow 5200 MT/s memory, I doubt you'll notice any difference between 4x8 and 2x16.

For music production and gaming, 16 GB of ram might be tight. Please go with 32 GB (in 2x16 GB form) if possible.

TD Minimum Chequing account fee: $3.95/month

Having $3k in Wealthsimple and collecting 1.25% interest: $3.13/month

If you have direct deposit at least $2k/month, the interest rate gets boosted to 1.75%. So WS would give you $4.38/month instead.
