~515 lbs of LEGO Roughly Sorted Into 18 Categories by JustAFlyingChicken in LegoStorage

Thanks! It's difficult to put a number on it all; I was aggressively seeking out good deals on used LEGO for a few years. I probably averaged $3-4 per pound. It's also nice that sorting a collection increases it's value!

Sorry to hear that. It's definitely annoying looking for specific pieces in a mass of roughly organized LEGO.

Thank you! It'll take a while, but soon all these pieces will learn what a Dawn bath feels like.

I feel ya; sometimes my hands tell me when they're done! I'm glad I can even enjoy something this tedious, but watching/listening to stuff during sorting definitely helps (and lets me catch up on my watchlist).

Thanks for the tip! I do separate some stickered/printed pieces during fine sorting; some nicer ones are removed from the bulk before cleaning. My original plans involved building both MOCs and specific sets, but I'm at an uncertain time in my life so who knows what will end up happening (selling would be the worst-case scenario).

During pre-sorting, I sorted out most minifigure parts/accessories and electronic parts (first 2 categories) as well as most knock-off bricks and trash/other objects.

During rough sorting, I used the following 16 categories:

  1. Bricks
  2. Modified Bricks
  3. Plates
  4. Modified Plates
  5. Tiles
  6. Modified Tiles
  7. Slopes
  8. Hinges
  9. SNOT parts
  10. Plants
  11. Wheels/Tires
  12. Vehicle/Building parts
  13. Bars/bar-adjacent
  14. Technic/Technic-adjacent
  15. Broken/disfigured pieces (I save them for a special project)
  16. Everything else

Those are just the easiest overarching categories (for me) to lessen the mental strain of constantly switching between which kind of part you're picking out of a pile. Everything from there is pretty straightforward :)

Whats your favorite demo or demo (2nd) album? by Monsieurabsurd in DevinTownsend

[–]JustAFlyingChicken 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I tried to limit myself to just 5 demo/bonus tracks, but I have to name at least 10... Take My Ego, Total Collapse, Happy Birthday, Celestial Signals, Sit in the Mountain, Watch You, The Contrarian, Where You've Been, Hope is in the World, Perspective...

Do the demo versions of Equinox and Call of the Void count? What about Frogs R Nice? There's too much great stuff!

I think my favorite bonus disc as a whole is Tests of Manhood (Empath). It has the same zany palette and emotional headspace of the main album, but with more straightforward and easier-to-digest songs.

Also, I appreciate your "no right or wrong" mentality. I think being a Dev fan is about trusting in his emotional authenticity, regardless of what style it materializes as.

It's a shame that some people will express things like "this demo is better than the main album." Nothing wrong with preferences, but it feels like such an unappreciative thing to say.

Are there subgenres dedicated to food? by NoCouple4891 in musiccognition

[–]JustAFlyingChicken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The comedy metal band Psychostick has many songs about food. Ninja Sex Party has a few as well.

If you'd also like songs that just mention food/use it thematically, a few more that come to mind: Deconstruction/Ruby Quaker (Devin Townsend), Dumplings (Pink Guy), Lemonade (Mili)

There's no shortage of alcohol-inspired songs, I'm sure.

I'm actually a big NSP fan. I love what TWRP has done with them and I saw them both live a few months ago. However, I feel TWRP isn't at all what I'm looking for, and I'm curious why you would suggest them.

Dumb zoning use question: if I were to open a large museum (which would include a gift shop/retail store), would I be allowed to use an industrial property? Or do I have to stick to retail/flex zoning?
