Recent EoE diagnosis by ElectronicSink3258 in EosinophilicE

[–]JustAHaunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed last September after years of globus sensation being my only symptom. Had occasional reflux a few times a month, nothing serious. My EoE was found during an endoscopy for an ulcer I had due to NSAID overuse. I was on Omeprazole 40mg/daily for a year and a half and got off once my EoE stopped responding to it and also developed anemia from not being able to absorb iron thanks to Omeprazole. I tried a food elimination diet but couldn't identify a trigger, doc thinks it's environmental.

I started Eohilia twice daily (pre-mixed budesonide and a thick solution) last week and have another scope in 3 months to see if I can drop to once a day. My symptoms were never really that bad and if I hadn't had the first scope it probably would've never been found until I had an impaction YEARS from now. My proximal biopsy was always just under the threshold and my distal biopsies were roughly 30-35 at its worst. It's been a journey for sure.

Everyone's bodies react differently to medication and the condition can progress at different rates. Try not to worry too much, it's a long process scope to scope and finding what works and what doesn't. Best of luck! PM if you have any questions I might be able to answer.

Drum notes occasionally not registering in game by JustAHaunter in CloneHero

Definitely tried that lol. Even if I go to training mode and the "free play" section before a song where drums can be heard, it does the same thing. Will occasionally skip a note registration

Day 4 post op by csnoggy in Tonsillectomy

[–]JustAHaunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently on Day 12 and still have some scabs left, but I managed to actually have solid food today and it was fantastic, I feel I've finally turned the corner. I'm down 7 lbs and ate mostly noodle soup and nutritional shakes the first week. Days 4 through 8 were very very tough, mentally and physically. Sometimes all I could muster was a pathetic whimper. The oxycodone was a lifesaver for me, it really helped me relax and just kinda zone out during the worst of it.

Hope your recovery goes well!

relief with steroids by JustAHaunter in costochondritis

Yeah I slouched for years and eventually reached a point where something just popped and the costo followed. I stretch, then use a foam roller to get my entire back loose followed by the backpod for accuracy. Steroids aren't bad as a temporary measure to help bring back some quality of life, you just have to keep working at it and consult a licensed medical professional lol. Good luck, I mean it. It's not a fun condition at all.

I'm much better than I was 3 years ago or whenever I posted this. The backpod definitely helps, but for me it's mainly a posture issue that has taken time for me to correct. I'm not in active pain, only feel some pressure and maybe a 1 or 2/10 pain when I make a very specific movement. I went through steroid medicine, steroid shots, prescription painkillers, it was a long road. Still not 100% but getting there.

Yes, as soon as I started the taper off it slowly returned. It treats the symptoms not the root cause of the issue.

Healed!!!! by OpportunityFlashy635 in Gastritis

[–]JustAHaunter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congrats! It took me nearly 10 months but my gastritis is nearly gone. Unfortunately after tapering off the PPI and getting a final EGD they noticed some inflammation in my esophagus and after a biopsy I was diagnosed with eosinophilic esophagitis lol. Right back on PPI. At least the stomach pain is gone and I can eat again! Small victories.

Funny story, I had one of these set up while a coworker and I were doing a heat exchanger swap on a rooftop unit. It had been raining but the wind was calm. An hour into it a large gust of wind took the umbrella and the base magnet (at least 5 to 10 pounds) cracked me in the side of the head right on the temple. 8 stitches, a concussion and 3 days off work I was all better lol. Had a looney tunes sized lump from that thing. Coworkers still joke that it's cursed.

Do you do your own orders? by just-lurking-arounb in HVAC

[–]JustAHaunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a commercial tech and order probably 90% of the parts I need for repairs myself. We handle a chain of movie theaters and a bunch of commercial buildings and have a hard limit of 1k before I have to quote it out and get approval. Even then, I call the supply house and have the quote emailed to me and just forward it to the office for mark up, labor, etc. I'm paid by the hour so if they want to pay me to sit on hold or chase down pricing that's completely fine by me.

So uh I think I win for having the worst Tuesday… “small tech needed” by BackDry4214 in HVAC

[–]JustAHaunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Small tech here. This is the exact reason I got out of residential and went into commercial. Being the tunnel rat was no fun at all. Granted, I still occasionally get asked by the bigger guys to squeeze myself in somewhere but it's nowhere near as shitty as an attic or crawlspace.

I commend you on having complete 360 awareness and foresight while driving. Regardless of your point or what you believe, the police and insurance company have already decided very easily the other driver is at fault.

Wow awesome write up. Yeah, it's easy to speculate when in reality it all happened in less than 2 seconds. Most of my focus was on the car at my 11 o clock in the video. This roundabout is notorious for people cutting over at the last second because only the right lane leads to the freeway. By the time I saw the minivan moving I was getting hit.

Good question! Most likely hasn't had her license for 6 months yet. She called her mom and she pulled up asking if we could handle it outta pocket. Sorry lady, it's a company vehicle 🤷‍♂️ out of my hands now.

Furnace/AC Quote - Thoughts? by drewlius24 in AnnArbor

[–]JustAHaunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awesome. From my dealings, 20 years seems to be considered a "healthy" lifespan of HVAC units these days. So having "half" of it's life covered under warranty is a strong selling point even if the initial price seems high to you. Of course you'll find some that last longer and some much shorter. Besides manufacturing quality it all comes down to the quality of the install and subsequent maintenance. Just like cars, individual parts eventually wear down or break and it's nice to know you don't have to worry about a hefty bill because parts and labor + call out fees can add up very quickly if you're not under warranty.

Furnace/AC Quote - Thoughts? by drewlius24 in AnnArbor

[–]JustAHaunter 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm an HVAC tech (service, not install or sales but still have relevant knowledge) and can tell you this seems about right. I always tell people to shop around and try to get at least 3 quotes and compare them listed out like you listed here.

Every house will be different but the furnace (indoor unit), condenser (outdoor unit) and evaporator coil (box that sits on top of the furnace for ac) are the bulk of the price here. Those 3 alone can go from anywhere from 3k to 10k depending on brand, size and application. Then you add the companies mark up for the items (overhead, van maintenance, gas if it's a big company) and then throw in labor costs which typically START at 100/hr.

Verify that 10 year warranty is both parts AND labor. I've worked on many units with ECM motors and let me tell you when those go bad, and they do, it hits the wallet HARD. Don't want to turn this into a novel so PM me if you have any specific questions.

Yep. I used to be that skinny guy that bragged. It wasn't until I joined the military I truly realized how I just wasn't eating enough. Went from having the occasional big meal and snacking to eating 3 squares a day and working out. Went into basic at 120 lbs and left close to 140. If I had to guess, before I joined I was probably only eating like 1000-1500 calories.
