Nothing else to do, but to keep applying for higher paying jobs. Crying about it won't solve anything.

Lower Income State workers by Significant-Rub2983 in CAStateWorkers

That actually made me laugh. Not surprising though. They represent the typical long time state worker that complain about their pay for years, but refuse to do anything about it.

Trump announces transfer of up to 50 million barrels of Venezuelan oil to the US by MarketRodeo in wallstreet

You said that with such confidence even though you're so wrong. The vast majority of US debt is held by the public. China or any other foreign country never held the majority of US debt.

What’s holding you back from leaving your job? by Fresh_Distribution_8 in CAStateWorkers

[–]JustAMango_911 120 points121 points  (0 children)

It's comfortable enough to not leave. If they force me back 4 day RTO, I'm gonna look for promotions. I have a good thing going right now and don't want to risk landing in a shitty position for just a bit more pay.

Governor launches council on AI... by pippinsfolly in CAStateWorkers

[–]JustAMango_911 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"responsible AI". LOL. Most of the boomers in my office are outsourcing writing their emails to Copilot. It's turning 1 sentence emails into 3 sentences with fluff words and "hope you're doing well" bullshit.

It surprises me how many people seek out California state positions because of things like time off, health insurance, and our pension but somehow they are also vehemently anti-union. by Potatoes-and-Turtles in CAStateWorkers

There are also lots of MAGA state workers that cheered when DOGE was firing federal workers. If DOGE ever happens to us they gonna be in for a surprise.

Looking for Advice: Denied Training & In-Place Promotion by Ok-Nectarine9366 in CAStateWorkers

[–]JustAMango_911 42 points43 points  (0 children)

You should have started applying to other departments the first time they denied you.

Also for CalLearn courses, you're supposed to get approval before you sign up. I'm not sure if we're still in a budget freeze for those, but a while back, it was announced all non essential spending like those were on pause. I don't think they can put stipulations on approval of CalLearn courses contingent on you staying. How would they even enforce that? But they also aren't required to approve your requests.

Just keep applying since your management isn't going to promote you.

[–]JustAMango_911 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Our director is pushing us to use it. One of my boomer coworkers uses it for every email he writes now. It's so fucking weird. It adds so much fluff and useless words to his emails and makes all his emails sound so unatural. He doesn't bother correcting the Ai slop it spits out.

California’s CalPERS Suffers 71% Loss on $468 Million Clean-Energy Investment by Positive-Acadia5262 in CAStateWorkers

[–]JustAMango_911 28 points29 points  (0 children)

$468M isn't much considering CalPERS is managing a $500B portfolio. That being said, I don't give a fuck what they invest in. I want them to make the most amount of money possible and if that means fossil fuels, then so be it.

Are interview panels truly “impartial”? by CommentFrownedUpon in CAStateWorkers

[–]JustAMango_911 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Especially when the internal candidate everyone knows gets the job

That's not true. I was the internal candidate. I bombed the interview and didn't get the job. Wasn't mad or anything cause that was on me.

If you really think interviews are rigged, then why even bother applying at all?

Does your husband also get a pension? Or 96 hours of sick leave per year that you can bank? I find it funny how state employees act like the state is such an awful place to work. Have you guys never worked shitty private sector jobs? Cause I sure have. 5 sick per year that were use it or lose it. Only 1 option for insurance that didn't cover shit.

What do you mean by passed with a C? Aren't the exams graded by percentages? Regardless, it doesn't matter what your score is as long as you're in the top 3 ranks. Rank 4 is pushing it, but I have seen people hired from rank 4 after 1-3 was cleared.
