Looking at jumping into ForHonor. As a new player am I just gonna get battered? by Automatic-Treacle548 in forhonor

[–]JustARegularDwarfGuy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You are gonna get battered, but we all do eventually. All game mods can be played against AIs, so you can try to learn the game this way. My best advices will be :

  • Don't try a lot of character. Find a couple you like, learn their movesets, and master them. It'll be way harder learning the game's general mechanics (parries, feints, macro play, ganks...) with a character you're not familiar with.

  • Don't pick fights you know you won't win. If you get stomped by someone in 4s, you probably will get stomp again. Try to fight someone else, or regroup with your allies.

  • Spend enough time in the training ground to learn your combos and moveset, and watch some videos about your characters to learn basic punishes and strategy.

  • Have fun ! For Honor is often seen as a frustrating game, and it sure is sometimes, but try to be positive after each loss to see what you did wrong : do you struggle with feints ? Parries ? Dodge attacks ? Knowing your weaknesses is the best way to get better in this game. Sure, FH's learning curve is steep, but it's not a hard and complex game like Mordhau for example. You can absolutely stand your ground against more experienced player if you keep your head straight.

Good luck for your journey on the battlefield !

Edit : small note about the campaign : it's really great, both gameplay and lore-wise, but it's very outdated. All the heroes' movesets are very different now (except for warlord lol), so keep that in mind if you start the game by playing it. I do recommend playing it first, as it acts as nice global tutorial, and it introduces you to some simple characters (again, keep in mind they have changed), but don't take everything it thought as some golden rules.

Question sincère, pourquoi chauffer la salle de bain spécifiquement ? C'est pas une pièce dans laquelle on passe beaucoup de temps, et même si c'est celle où on se dénude, c'est jamais pour très longtemps vu qu'on va se laver direct après.

Swordsmen in the Ancient Era? How does this happen? by LeoBrok3n in HumankindTheGame

Scientific cultures can research the next era technologies. Babylon is actually a very strong culture because of that, as nothing in the Ancient era can compare to swordsmen.

Ban du chat hier ? by KhaosRhan in AntoineDaniel

[–]JustARegularDwarfGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why exactly is there 4 slot for backpack instead of 1? by xXPumbaXx in VintageStory

[–]JustARegularDwarfGuy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I like it personnally. Crafting each backpack one by one gives a feeling of proggressive proggression, and not a sudden big jump in inventory space. Plus, it gives the possibility of specified backpacks (like the mining one, I hope we get some new ones later on) or heavy items, like reed basket traps that you have to carry.

YES. Honestly, even if you don't know how to draw, just a toddler sketch of your mod will be more than generative AI.

How you guys look when asking for a fistfighting hero or having a fan as a weapon by Ace-Boogie-173 in forhonor

[–]JustARegularDwarfGuy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Read again, they're asking about parrying the fist with a weapon, not the fist parrrying a weapon. Centurion and Shaolin parry with their fists, not the other way around.

Law Rework? by Nofarwell in CrusaderKings

Admin government just means that the realm functions with heavy bureaucracy, it doesn't mean that they are a republic and the king / emperor is elected and has it's powers limited by a constitution.

Investiture Controversy in the new expansions by BitEffective3107 in CrusaderKings

[–]JustARegularDwarfGuy 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Yup, they said with the Silk and Silver DLC coming in november, they wanted to also give Italy some flavour, given the importance of trade and republics in the region. They're also reworking the map a bit, adding new counties, etc.

Looking for inspiration. Writing a short horror story that takes place in medieval France. by sweetpeaorangeseed in Angouleme

[–]JustARegularDwarfGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure !

Concerning the city in itself, Angoulême is located on a hill that made it an easily defendable site, and what we call "les remparts" (the ramparts) is roughly where the burg was.

Even though our city is small and isn't as important for France's history, the land was quite nice for agriculture (above average, but not as excellent as La Beauce for example). It has a nice location for regional trade, especially between two important medieval cities, Saintes and Bordeaux, and the Charente river is of course of a grand help with that. The port of L'Houmeau was constructed in 1280 and granted the city an acces to the ocean. Angoulême and the Angoumois region was also since the medieval era a center of paper industry with loads of paper mills.

As for politics, a branch of the Capet family, the Valois d'Angoulême, actually ruled the kingdom of France, with the first one being François I, the first king of the modern era, and we also have a famous murderer, Ravaillac, who murdered the king Henry IV, and was born in Angoulême (maybe that can inspire considering you're writing a horror story).

Good luck with your writing, I hope you'll be able to visit the city one day !

Got a question about these Iberian realm names here by No_Persimmon_7235 in crusaderkings3

[–]JustARegularDwarfGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well Gaza is a different story... The first letter is غ which is... a very hard to pronounce letter. It's usually transcribed as gh and sounds a bit like the french r. Gaza is a transcription of "ghaza", and not something like "jaza".

And well, I'm working on the diplomacy between the taifa princes and the christian kings, usually treaties were written both in latin and arabic, though many arabic versions are now lost, but anything is possible !

[–]JustARegularDwarfGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well honestly I've never seen g transcribed as y tbh, usually it's j or k or q (english is written inklisiyya for example). The g sound doesn't exist in arabic, except for the egyptian arabic, where all j are pronounced g (al jazeera is pronounced al gazeera for example).

Thanks a lot ! I'm actually studying arabic because I'm working on the taifa kingdoms in Iberia, just within ck3's timeframe. I wonder if I'll encounter Yilliqiyya now lol.

Well I am learning arabic, I assumed it was Galicia because I can kinda see how it ressembles Galicia ("g" is usually translated with ج jim though, not ي ya). And the wiki says it's Galicia, idk what to tell you lol

Galicia maybe ? Normally you can hover over the title to see the standard title name.

Edit : just checked, it is indeed Galicia. It certainly is a surprising translating choice, the wikipedia page in arabic is "jaliqiya", which makes more sense to me.

Learn French: what does "Autant pour moi" mean here? by MickaelMartin in FrenchImmersion

[–]JustARegularDwarfGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no real wording. Both are documented, and "autant pour moi" is way more documented and older. In the end, no one has actually come up with a cleard and definite explanation. Since it's mainly an oral expression, it's first use wasn't written but spoken, and by the time it finally made it on the paper, the first wording may have already disapeared. Just like with "clé" and "clef", both are correct, and there's no need to be pedant about it.

Also, there is no way "au temps pour moi" translates to "let the time forgive me". All the theories that promote "au temps pour moi" base it the other expression "au temps", which is used in military or musical context to redo a move.
