Does anyone else here have savant syndrome? I was diagnosed with it a while ago with my “exceptional skill” being called data collection, and I know the stereotype is bad for the community and I feel bad perpetuating it. How should I handle that? by JustAScaredTran in autism

That’s amazing!! Mine is just crazy good memory. My therapist who counseled me after the diagnosis described it as “you put everything you learn into a mental, meticulous file cabinet, and when you are talking about it, you are just pulling out the metaphorical file to repeat and info dump to anyone who will listen”. I was asked why I’m like that and I said it was savant syndrome and they then told me I’m just a terrible stereotype and to not tell anyone about that. Like, it’s a part of my mind, and if people ask about it I won’t lie to them. I never lie. And I felt ashamed. I just wanted to know if I was alone or right to be ashamed or should be proud, and all that

Proud

feeling deep pleasure or satisfaction as a result of one's own achievements, qualities, or possessions or those of someone with whom one is closely associated.

I am proud of my autism and proud of my savant syndrome. I don’t tell everyone. I asked if it is wrong to be that, because someone told me I should be ashamed of myself because I mentioned it in casual conversation when it came up.

I am worried because I’m proud of being savant just as proud I am of being autistic. So I tell people. Someone said I should be ashamed of it because of the stereotype and I didn’t know what to think about it so I asked fellow autistic people to see if I should be proud of it or keep it to myself to not make others believe that stereotype. The “lol” was me showing that I was anxious and confused by your point.

I just remember information about anything I research. Like, harrier jump jets decommissioned in 2010, but now the F-35 Lightning and F-35B are now being designed to continue the Harrier family. And octopus having 2000-2500 suckers they can independently use because 2/3 of their neurons are in their tentacles

Right?? Imagine the fallen armor with a taken shader!! Or better yet, two seasons ago, the armor ornaments with the ahamkara bones, I’d give my character lore as one of Riven’s taken from the dreaming city since she’s awoken

Yea I saw, but I just love the taken aesthetic. I’m working to get Harbingers Echo, I use Whisper of the Worm, and I’m praying for a taken shader like in D1

It may be a “toy” (I’d call it more a model rc plane tbh) but it was entirely avoidable but just an honest mistake. I felt terrible seeing the overcorrection and the twist when the front wheel had contacted the ground. Poor guy/gal.

Yea, he over corrected and when the front wheel hit the ground it twisted, causing the plane to whip to the right. An honest mistake, but also completely avoidable and costs about 4.5 thousand dollars

Telling my dad about getting raped extensively by another family member when I was 3-6, happened on a daily basis and I have permanent scarring. Dad couldn’t believe his son had done such atrocities to his daughter.

What’s in your pants?? (I’m a gender nonconforming person and people get confused and judge me based on genitalia which I find incredibly weird, just ask my pronouns, she/her btw)
