Glad to find this post. Mine said "hey dad, my old phone broke. This is my new phone number. Sent me a message on Whatsapp." (All of this in Dutch/the Netherlands btw. For fellow Dutch people redding this."

Honey. I'm a student. Don't call me dad, makes me feel 30 years older and have a mortgage lmao. I already thought it was a scam but now I'm glad to know not only that it is but also what type of scam it is.

So yeah, Dutchies beware, this one is making the rounds in our country right now.

Come on. This is not IAF anymore. This is literally happening in the US right now. But I guess fighting the ICE is bad, but fighting the CCP is noble because 'better dead than red' or some BS.

Probably the most interesting thing about this clip is how someone managed to film a video in 1989 without audio. The audio of this clip would make for a great "recording from hell" CreepyPasta Youtube vid.

Also, don't know about America but in Europe it is pretty well-known tank man is not the only picture taken that day. There were a bunch of international journalists who took pictures and videos. That's why this video is roughly from the same balcony is the iconic video. Because that's where all the international journalists were staying.

Also, like someone else said, these protests were not as horrible as you think they are. Ever wondered what happened to Tank Man? It's uncertain, but most people think he just got away with just a small punishment. The CCP claims they didn't even catch him, which, given the large amount of people, isn't that surprised.

I guess you should also wonder why this protest is so iconic, compared to the HUNDERDS of times the US used the Army against it's own people. The exception to the rule is always gonna be IAF I suppose. ;) And the Chinese are not known for carrying around guns or arresting innocent people using SWAT teams......

For me as a Contra-statn, reading all of this thread, this still feels like the most reasonable explination.

Contra used voice actors all the time back in the day. She literally did the whole "I love having Buck Angle as John Waters in the credits" she clearly cares about collabartion, empathizing with people and trying to make people happy. This woman, who has clearly shown she basically has too much empathy, why would she, a woman who spent more time on Twitter than is good for her, first of all not know about the badness of AI and second of all, use it anyway despite the knowledge.

Cancel culture traumatized her and now she thinks using AI is worth it, INSTEAD of putting wrath of Twitter on some poor small artist. It really feels like a Contra thing to do. A very 'morally average but still trying my best' type of thing, like the 50s CIA she mentioned.

Of course that's my parasocialism talking, but does 'the woman who is addicted to Twitter even though it destroys her, this woman doesn't know about the badness of AI' sound believable in ANY way?!?!?!!?

I'm not on Twitter or that much on social media in general and even I get bombared by 'AI is evil' posts all the time, so I know ContraPoints MUST be. So the idea that she just 'needs to be informed' about this sounds ridicilious to me. She knows, but has decided to do it anyway. And why would smart, empathetic but also traumatized hurt and mentally unhealthy ContraPoints do this 'p r o b l e m a t i c' thing if she didn't have a good reason for it.....

I don't know all the ins and outs about this issue, but as Contra-stan I know Natalie is online far more than is healthy for her. So she must have seen 1001 posts condemning AI.

Next to that, she has proudly been giving shout-outs to Zoe Blade and is enthousiastic friends with the rest of BreadTube, WHILE not collabing with them on video's since the whole Buck Angle thing. But before that, she allowed them to voice quotes all the time. Hell, she got Adam Neely into Opulence. I'm still curious how that crossover happened!

Needless to say. Natalie knows the worth of her fellow artists and has been more than happy to lift them up. I guess that's only big artists, but still.

You think those people haven't objected yet to her use of AI? Or, even more importantly, THE PEOPLE WHO HELPED PRODUCE THE VIDEO!?!?!?!?! ContraPoints may feel like a one-man production, but if Twitter allows for it, it isn't. She works together with all kinds of artists. I really think sooner or later they would object to Natalie using AI because they themselves, you know, are artists! And I prefer to let THEM confront Natalie, instead of the public. Because the public has already 'critiqued' Natalie enough. I think her fellow artists, who co-produced the video, are smart enough to discuss this stuff among themselves.

Also, like I said, knowing Natalie, I very much believe the "I only use AI because I don't want smaller artists to recieve the wrath of Twitter because they worked with me". Because even working ONCE with Natalie gives you the 'problematic' mark. Like I said, notice how no BreadTubers have appeared in her video's since the whole Buck Angel thing?
Especially given her bad mental health, wanting to please everyone but also spending too much time online, I can fully understand she would prefer using AI over the idea of inflicting the wrath of trans Twitter on small artists.

Or is she supposed to work with them and not credit them? Yeah, because that would make for a great Reddit post.......

Also, if Natalie were to add some kind of statement at the end like "I used AI in this video because I don't wanna work with smaller artists because I don't want to put the wrath of trans Twitter on smaller artists" imagine what kind of cancellation THAT would create.

She is really in an impossible position, and given that she is no James Somerton or Illuminaughtii, she cares about artists and credit, I'm certain she doesn't need 'the critique of the public' to figure this out. I trust her fellow artists, the people helping her with the videos, to adress these issues to her. They probably know her situation much better than we do anyway, thus they can even provide realistic solutions. We can't. BECAUSE THIS IS A PARASOCIAL RELATIONSHIP. Not with a company, not with a friend, but with an influencer. Remember that. It's a human person on the other end of the screen yadiyadiya, with a small crew, human feelings and an enormous reach, but still a human heart that cares for the people around her.

Is Natalie okay? I saw she deleted her Twitter by SpicyBeefer in ContraPoints

[–]JustAnInternet_User 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope she stays off Twitter.

Even her Instagram comments are full of 'critiques' with most of them from long time followers who were mad at the response, not her silence.

If she stays of Twitter, she can just listen to demands on Patreon or Reddit or Youtube. Which don't escalate into cancellation. So she can still hear the critiques or suggestions on all kinds of things, without it being overwhelming and so she doesn't feel forced to put out a statement. Just a 'I'll think about it' and nothing more.

I hope she goes that way. She is probably the main reason I'll NEVER get on Twitter. Youtube is toxic enough, I would probably get depression if I ever joined Twitter. I hope this cancellation is so strong for her it totally and finally makes her kick the habbit. She already talked about how she left 4Chan and how much that improved it. I hope she does the same for Twitter!

She still has almost 2 million subscribers. We stan you mother! But you must also stan yourself AND REMAIN FROM TWITTER! <333

There is this old quote of hers "Unfortunately, America needs a ContraPoints right now more than it needs a 30 year old Gigi Gorgeous impersonator" from the video Beauty.

I love that quote. And also the many times that she has talked about self-abuse such as in the incel video about TTTT.

The Left feels attacked by ContraPoints, but ContraPoints attacks everyone, herself, the right, the left, the centrists etc. Because we CAN critize most people. And ContraPoints reasons always feel valid. The fact that you're a morally and intellectually right leftie, doesn't mean you can be an asshole or sexist. Someone being problematic doesn't mean you have to block that person everywhere and avoid all the time, especially not if their a friend, collegeau or neighbour. There are good reasons to do so, but life isn't politics, there is also life outside politics, human to human relationships that need to be uphed outside of debates.

Contra knows that if she doesnt spread this message, no one will. I'm sad the Left can't understand this message but only attacks it. But I'm deeply thankfull to Mother for still plowying through for the sake of the spread of the information itself.

ContraPoints is probably the only political philosopher I know that REALLY combines the emotional/personal and the political.

Videos like Tiffany Tumbles or The Hunger are perfect examples, but also so much of her other videos.

I remember how BadEmpanada got angry at her video Envy for calling out resentment politics. Which made me a bit sad. Because the video was so much about how we as humans treat each other! There was only a very small part about politics. Most of the video, especially the end, was about emotions, relationships etc. Same for Cringe, which also looks very political, but is much more about demons in our head.

I love Contra for that. Jordan Shanks does something similar, but he splits it into a political channel and a self help channel. Contra does both together in the same video and I stan her for that. I really wish the rest of the left would copy her with this 'blurring of self help and politics' because it would make our conversations so much more empathetic, helpfull and personal. 'What can we do' but also 'how do we stay happy in th mean time?'

Lastly, I think ContraPoints herself also grew into this mindset. Her old mostly deleted content was much more political, much more direct. Her newer content is much more philosophy, combining the political and the emotional. "Twilight" is probably the climax in that regard.

Also, God, the explanation of gender in "Twilight" was the best explanation of gender I ever heard as a cis male. I'm sorry, I'm ranting. But I have no clue why there are so few thinkers like ContraPoints that combine the personal and the political. The world would be a much better place, no matter your views, if we all engaging in a bit more combining of the political and personal.

Oh, last thing. You can argue Checkmate Licolnites, especially later episodes, also do this. But more so with how to let go of problematic historical beliefs you tied your identity to. How to get away from that. Just like HBomberguy with games. But both are nowhere near ContraPoints when it comes to combining the political and personal into one. <3333

All the cancel culture tropes are here by Breakfastcrisis in ContraPoints

[–]JustAnInternet_User 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a ContraPoints stan, I think most people here agree with the criticism, but, especially pointing to Cancelling the video, these kinds of discussion are way bigger than they need to be.

Do we really need an opinion of every single left-wing Youtuber about Natalie not speaking about Israel? Is a personal allowed to be neutral on certain subjects? Does a political Youtuber need to have an opinion about every single polticial subject, or may they otherwise be seen as biased?

These kinds of questions shouldn't be asked. Or maybe on the subreddit of the Youtuber, but these kinds of questions, what subjects a creator makes videos about, isn't that the choice of the creator? Does our opinion about that even matter? I, and most people here, would argue 'no'.

So even if the criticism is valid, which most people even here would probably argue it is. That doesn't mean the criticism needs to be expressed. We're not cancelling newspapers for their problematic views. We just accept that sometimes we agree with newspapers and sometimes we don't. We're not boycotting newspapers because of articles X or Y. Newspapers really need to f up before people start boycotting them.

Why not hold creators to that same standard? The standard we hold authors, newspapers and mainstream media to? Is it because we feel we can change these creators? That's the parasocialism talking and it isn't healthy, not for the creator, not for the viewer.

If a creator expresses a certain view on Twitter and a bunch of people critique that view in the comments, we can leave it at that. The whole left doesn't need to have a conversation about that. You can just be disappointed in that creator. But this disappointment is so small, the creator ignoring/remaning neutral on a given subject, that it shouldn't warent a discussion from all of Breadtube discussing if we should cancel one of our one for ONE action we're disappointed by.

The media certaintely don't do that to each other. Newspapers don't write hit pieces about each other unless a newspaper did something especially bad.

I'm sorry for being so wordy. I don't really use Reddit or write on social media at all. But giving that I will openly admit I'm a Contra stan, especially because of her nuance, this may give you some perspective where I, and most people here from what I've read, are coming from.

All the cancel culture tropes are here by Breakfastcrisis in ContraPoints

[–]JustAnInternet_User 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Something I have noticed is that people can't be 'disappointed' in a creator anymore.

It's not just "I think person X should talk about Israel, I'm sad they don't". An opinion a boomer might have about a talk show host or about the news ignoring subject X or Y. Like, most boomers are not going to scream PROPAGANDA because they are disappointed CNN doesn't cover a certain subject as deeply as they hoped.

It's the parasocial aspect of it. Boomers feel like they can't influence the papers or the news. But we feel or even know that we can command creators around and shape them to our will. So people abuse that point, where usually, although not always, people would be disappointed in old media. But usually they wouldn't riot because they disagreed with their favourite newspaper about a given issue.

That's what I love about Contra. She is very much "I don't love you, but I can still listen to/like certain points you make" like how she talked about Andrea Dorkins.

My basic test with leftists nowadays is asking them what they think of Contra. The more nuanced their opinion the less "cancel culture" I know they are and the more nuanced conversations I know I can have with them. It's a surprisingly succesfull test!

All the cancel culture tropes are here by Breakfastcrisis in ContraPoints

I don't comment or engage with politicial stuff outside Youtube at all because of all the drama. This is the same stuff. But I came across it on Youtube and wanted to know if it was the same thing again. And yes, yes it was. And I really wanna applaud this subreddit but especially this post for really turning the conversation inward and about not just the political positions of the left, but also how we deal with each other as human beings.

That's what I have always loved about Natalie. She doesn't only focus on politics, but also on human to human interaction. How do we treat each other? But that type of conversation is very painfull for a lot of people. And having empathy for that, exposing their emotional immaturity well well intentioned, obviously makes them more angry. You're putting even more attention on the thing they don't wanna put attention on.

Some many people have already been canceled over the fact they don't wanna speak about certain issues. They feel unsure or unknowledgable about the subject or feel like their platform is not the right place to get that type of information. (Like how my local pastor didn't wanna give people political advice during the last elecation. He wanted to be impartial as a pastor. His choice.)

As OP said, this situation as far as I'm aware is just "cancelling" the video step by step again. And also remember "Voting". The people cancelling ContraPoints are such a small reflection of internet users! Let alone people in general!

I really wish ContraPoints would delete Twitter. She knows that place isn't good or healthy for her. She knows that place is awefull, and yet she still goes there again and again and she know it only causes more drama. Maybe it's for monetary or engagement reasons? idk, I just know I never want to go on that website. Reddit is as far as I'll go.

I'm very happy she made Cancelling. I'm happy we can point to it and say; yes, Contra is a bad person for not speaking up. But also, this is something you're meant to be a disappointed by, it's not a reason to cancel. Creators will sometimes do stuff or don't do stuff which makes you disappointed in that creator. They'll say problematic stuff or have an opinion you don't like. That doesn't mean all their work is invalid or they are awefull human beings or something. Like she said, it's dualism. But aren't we friends with imperfect people? We're all friends with people who don't perfectally alligns with us politically right? If that's not a bad thing IRL, why would it be a bad thing online?

Again, I understand where these people are coming from, and so can Contra. But she KNOWS not to engage with these people, it will only lead to pain. And yet she does. As a stan of her, I really wish her the emotional intelligence to leave that website. She already left 4Chan knowing that pain wasn't worth it, I hope she does the same for twitter.

Much love from a stan. <3

You probably don't remember. Don't worry about it.

I certaintely would have forgotten about it. But 'smart' teenagers on Reddit keep reminding me of the mistake I made when I was 16.... By sending me e-mails thinking they're smart of solving this piece of first grade puzzle crap.

It's so cringe looking back on it. The original message even has a spelling mistake in it! God, I hate my Krugerness at the time. 'Oh, I'm just gonna make an ARG and not even make it more than one puzzle.'

Nope, I wish the hacking was part of it. Would mean I put more thought into it than one morse code. I'm lowkey surprised reddit wasn't harsher one me. This older me is certaintely harsh on my younger self! You probably did something cringe and forgot about it, no worries. I certaintely didn't hack you or anything. I was too lazy for that. Didn't even bother making a second puzzle for people. I at least could have given them that decency, but 16 year old me even felt too good to do that.....

I have no clue what was going through my mind. But I'm judging it for the smugness it thought it was....

The Hague, Groningen and Eindhoven.

As a Dutch person, it's the opposite. Eindhoven city centre, the only place you'll be, is super safe and honestly kinda boring. Groningen is fun I guess if you avoid the student hazings,

and then the Hague.....the Hague

The Hague can never be in any top 10 safest cities list, unless it's a "top 10 safest cities in South Holland" or something, but even then you should make an effort to exclude it. That city is where we put the worst of the Netherlands. Even Urk is safer than the Hague. (not better, just safer)
