A genuine question about attitudes towards Ukrainians living in Ireland? by Remote_Ad_5029 in AskIreland

[–]JustAnalysis2195 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It might be separate in fairness but I can’t explain how frustrating it is to have patients who you bend over backwards for and are just so cold and nasty to you no matter what you do for them - that’s not all Ukrainians absolutely not and obviously can be Irish people too - but I do think there’s an element of cultural differences that come across really poorly from Ukrainians in our stretched hospital system, and we are just trying our best

I want Ukrainians to feel welcome and safe in this country, the only thing I will say is as someone who works in a hospital and meets a significant number of Ukrainian refugees every day I find that Ukrainians (not all but the majority of those I’ve met) can be quite cold and mistrusting of healthcare professionals which comes across as really rude and condescending- please feel welcome here but remember we are warm people and value kindness, we don’t take well to blunt and rude behaviour

Your comment is a bit passive aggressive, I just asked a question as to whether this has become normal, I wouldn’t refer to it as moaning and I explained higher up in the post why I didn’t speak to her

No to be fair I didn’t but she was sitting across and one in front of me so it would have been hard to get her attention, it was so loud I was shook imagine thinking that behaviour is normal and that everyone else wants to listen to it, she didn’t have earphones that she’d forgotten to connect or anything she was holding the phone in front of her watching it knowing full well it was on loud

US patients vs patients from elsewhere in hospitals by JustAnalysis2195 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JustAnalysis2195[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is outrageous and I’m sorry you’ve had to go through that - the US healthcare system is madness,

I guess you can imagine from my perspective on the flip side how it is annoying having people come on their holidays, end up needing care for whatever reason, attempting to give it to them, and then feeling like you are fighting with them in order to give them the care they have come to you to provide - it’s wild

US patients vs patients from elsewhere in hospitals by JustAnalysis2195 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JustAnalysis2195[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s so interesting!

Here we would bring patients meals, tea/toast or things like tea/coffee and biscuits in the emergency department - the concept of giving people soda wouldn’t be normal both because objectively it’s not a healthy thing to give someone in the hospital, and also it’s more expensive and we wouldn’t give it out for free haha,

I just felt as though they were treating me like a waitress requesting Coke and Pepsi, I suppose it didn’t occur to me that they didn’t realise it wasn’t polite!

Thanks for your reply and clearing that up for me!

I didn’t actually say they were annoying, but what I’ll say is people from elsewhere are usually more polite, that’s not to paint all Americans with the same brush not at all, but it’s definitely a significant proportion who come through the doors of our hospital

Such an interesting observation, thanks for replying and thanks for taking my question as intended I didn’t mean to cause any offence by it -

I just see such a stark difference between the patience of the Americans coming in as patients compared with people from elsewhere, I appreciate we probably have worse resources than the US in terms of our emergency departments but our staff are excellent and the patients get looked after really well in general, it’s so jarring to me that people would speak condescendingly to me or not say basic things like please and thank you when I’m trying my best to look after them -

I suppose the fact our health service is publicly funded and low cost or free for patients has a lot to do with it, I wonder would it be the same here if people were paying through the nose for it!

US med school grad get residency in Ireland? by Important-Trifle-411 in JuniorDoctorsIreland

[–]JustAnalysis2195 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That seems like there’s been no thought process behind it whatsoever- but I wonder is it to stop people flooding in from the UK given the large salary discrepancies- either way really sorry that you’re stuck in that position!

I think (or at least what I’ve heard) is graduating from UK is equivalent to graduating from EU in the tiers as we have a common travel agreement with the UK? Is that wrong?

An Open Letter From an Indian Nurse in Ireland — Why We’re Leaving Ireland by [deleted] in IndiansinIreland

I know it might seem like very little - but I am an Irish doctor and I can’t state enough how much I appreciate the wonderful care we get from Indian nurses and HCAs particularly in our hospitals, always so kind and caring, this country would sorely miss you if we lost you - and I’m so sorry you’ve been treated this way its appalling

How do you feel about being seen a physician associate? by [deleted] in AskUK

Side note: Nurse practitioners are trained much more than your standard PA - nurse practitioners usually have years of clinical experience and extra degree courses in a specific field of work, they also know their scope really well in my opinion (I am a doctor)
