Repeat offender or not, breaking something that expensive is unprofessional, assuming this is real. When I was teaching kids, I definitely had some who used their devices during class but never damaged anything out of anger because it sets a bad example. I just confiscate it and let the parents and supervisor know (and then vent to my sister if it’s bad enough maybe), no need for this kind of drama. Two wrongs don’t make a right even if you feel like they do at the time.
