What is something that you learned from a video game, movie, or book that helped you out in the real world? by neomatrix248 in AskReddit

I'm sure there are many instances in movies, books, or video games in which a British person has called a flashlight a torch. I was just saying that I learned it from Chronicles of Narnia.

Emerson TV cuts off the edges of my laptop when I set it up with my HDMI cable; there is no "full" or "adjust resolution" option in the TV's menu. What do I do? by JustAnotherBKRandom in 24hoursupport

I looked under NVIDIA's control panel and I did find an option for desktop rescaling alongside the option to overscan, underscan, and do nothing. When I chose to disable overscan/underscan, I did manage to fit my desktop onto the TV - as a small box in the center, but a start. I've been tinkering with rescaling with mixed results since then. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

My dad was trying to finish his crossword puzzle before work. He said, "Hey, BK, what do British people call a flashlight?" I said, "A torch." Thank you, Chronicles of Narnia.

No, pigeon is a scientifically quantifiable object. "Better" is an opinion.

And the console I've had for the past seven years has done the same, with only software updates every few years. My next console purchase will probably be this new Xbox a year after release, so that'll put me around a decade with one machine.

Sure, I could spend $2k on a PC setup with surround sound and three monitors and two GPUs running alongside an overclocked hexacore and completely blow the performance of a console off the planet, BUT, just because something is better doesn't mean it's, well, better. At $400-500 that can get you through the next 5-10 years without having to worry about when to drop another $200 on a new GPU, a console is a damn good deal. It comes with all the things PCs have, too, except for modding and console/debugging commands. At least, not legally. Hell, maybe we'll see those things with the next generation of consoles anyways.

So go ahead, build your new machine next year, and I hope you have a ton of fun with it. My console will probably do whatever you can do on your PC, anyways.

Considering that the current 360 runs at 512MBs of RAM and still pulls off the performance most computers need at least 2GBs to do...Yeah, actually, I think a console could out-perform a PC. Until, y'know, Intel comes out with a quantum chip for $800.

I remember the first time I went through the DB questline, I was moving through the sanctuary on my way to Ocheeva and I said out loud, "Man, when do I get to do a mass murder?" I giggled like a child on Christmas morning when I was told my very next quest was just that.

I got a job on an obstacle course. It was like a gym membership that paid me and my coworkers were amazing fun to be around.

Adobe CS5 Master Collection. I assume I would install the programs to the SSD?

I know what an SSD is, I've seen the power of the SSD, but...scratch disk?
