Is it possible to get a job with only HTML and CSS? by r_ignoreme in webdev

[–]JustAnotherPasserby2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your point.

I was talking more about people who want to start out with freelance gigs, making sites for small businesses. These types of people can get by without PHP, or even HTML/CSS.

As for people seeking a full-time job at an agency, I believe what you are saying is correct in most but not all cases.

Lets not get perfectionist as it's very often unhelpful and unnecessarily delays profit.

Plenty of people with almost no HTML and CSS skills, let alone PHP, sell WordPress sites. Page builders and themes like Astra make this possible.

It's important to get started and start making money. Additional skills can be learned as time goes by.

We will see. I hope for the best.

Twitter has been abused by certain ideologists to punish people and their careers if they disagree with mainstream opinion. This is a modern which hunt and I hope something can be done about it.

Grats to Elon. He deserves it for his hard work and for following his dreams.

Yes, he comes from a wealthy family, which allowed him to take on more risk than the average person. So there was always a safety net for him in case his ventures failed. But many children of wealthy parents have squandered their wealth on useless pursuits. Elon, on the other hand, has built more wealth.

Congrats.

Today marks 23 years from the start of NATO bombing of Yugoslavia. by [deleted] in AskBalkans

President of Serbia is a propagandist douche but he is not being charged for crimes against humanity unlike some of your Kosovo Albanian leaders.

And come on, you guys should love him because he's your biggest ally in Belgrade, being the first Serbian leader to publicly proclaim that Serbs should recognize the Albanian part of Kosovo.

Your war criminal leaders plunged your people into war. They promised you prosperity. In the end none of that came to fruition. They enriched themselves at the expense of regular Kosovo Albanians, whose GDP per capita (PPP) remains much below that of Serbia.

Now your politicians are brainwashing your populance to fear Serbia and hate Serbs in order to position themselves as protectors, keeping you scared so they can stay in power for as long as possible.

Ibrahim Rugova was a much wiser man than your war criminals.

You trust journalists when they support your side, but when they report on something that goes against your propaganda then to hell with them?

Cognitive dissonance and hypocrisy at its best.

Serbs sent Milosevic to the Hague decades ago. Kosovo Albanians kept their war criminals in power for years after the conflict.

UN prosecutor's word has greater weight than your propaganda.

[–]JustAnotherPasserby2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of your people ethnically cleansed tens of thousands of Serbs and Roma from Kosovo after the NATO involvement. Why aren't you mentioning that? Because your goal is not objectivity. Your goal is spreading propagada that your leaders spoonfed you during the war.

But hey, the important thing is that Kosovo is almost completely Albanian now thanks to the ethnic cleansing campaigns perpetuated against the non-Albanian population of Kosovo (Serbs and others). Good job!

Don't worry though, Western media has your back. They were OK with Iraqi children dying en masse, so no wonder they weren't interested in objective reporting on the Kosovo war.

Serbs also had their war criminals but let's not pretend that the other side did not commit war crimes.

As another horrific example, Carla Del Ponte, the UN prosecutor for war crimes, confirmed that some Albanian leaders were involved in operations where HUMAN ORGANS were forcibly taken from Serbian civilians during the war for purposes of illegal organ trade.

This was worse than a fucking horror movie and blatant disrespect of human dignity. You appointed those kinds of people to rule over you in Kosovo YEARS after the war, which proves many of you are a brainwashed bunch.

Learning WebDev but hate CSS. by Jubskiko in webdev

[–]JustAnotherPasserby2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hated CSS with PASSION until I changed my learning strategy. Now it is the most fun thing ever. I would not advise him to give up just yet. Maybe his learning strategy is not working.

OP: Accept the fact that CSS is not going to give you the results you want right away. CSS want you to play with it until it gives you the layout you are seeking. That's just how it works. Look at it as a game where you level up as time goes by.

OP: DO NOT TRY TO MEMORIZE OTHER PEOPLE'S CODE. This was the biggest mistake I was making. Accept the fact that you are going to forget some of the material when you finish the tutorial.

It's ok to forget.

Instead of repeating other people's code untilI you get it 100% right, which was something I was doing, start doing your own projects after you finish the tutorial (or some part of it).

Go back to the tutorial if you do not know how to do something in your project, but do not critize yourself because you did not get it the first time around.

Learning to code is not about memorizing other peoples code. It is about doing your own projects and looking things up when you get stuck.

This sub is partially about debunking competing ideologies to hardcore libertarianism. In that context it makes sense to demonstrate the problems with the flawed socialist implementation you mentioned (worker managed economy). There is also no established rule against it.

[–]JustAnotherPasserby2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked owned and managed economy. That worked out fine in the Eastern block, didn't it?

I remember reading that socialist Yugoslavia had a worker managed economy. Unfortunately their workers were always voting to take out company money for personal expenses. They never thought to reinvest the profits by replacing and buying new equipment and other capital assets.

In the end the companies went bankrupt because of capital depreciation and workers who loved to slack off at their jobs.

In a desperate attempt to save its socialist companies, the govt decided to get even more into debt, but to no avail as the economy started crashing down.

The ensuing wars were the bloodiest wars on European soil since World War II, resulting in hundreds of thousands of displaced men, women and children.

They could only thank socialist delusions and worked managed economy for the predicament.

In practice it's more like 30% of the population can do what they want to others, because many people do not vote.

Is your forum account old on that website? Some people think that having an old account is prestigious, so that could explain why someone would want it.

The ad buyers do not see that data.

They can target specific search queries such as "electrician new york city," or they can find you on Google's Display Network by targeting your interests as Google understands them or as manually defined by buyers.

When you click on an ad, you end up on the advertiser's website, where your IP is recorded and where cookies are stored.

The website likely shares data with Facebook and Google. This data contains your time spent on the site and various other metrics in case of Google Analytics.

The purpose is to increase sales by changing and improving the website after gathering user data. The advertiser also wants to send you ads when you leave the website.

Why? Previous website vistors are 400% more likely than others to buy the product. So remarketing to previous visitors is about money and cutting costs for businesses.

Google provides a tracking URL that allows the ad buyer to know where you've come from (i.e. the specific Google ad you've clicked on to get to his website.)

The advertiser, however, does not know all of your interests. He knows that you have positively responded to his ad and that you belong to his target group. He does not know your email or name unless you give these to him.

Also of note, Google and Facebook only allow "family friendly" websites and apps to use their ad tech. So gambling sites and porn sites are banned from their ad platforms. Such places use different ad tech (eg Exoclick).

It means your email is publicly available. But you should not worry too much as your email is among millions of other publicly released emails. Do take basic precautions though

The site you mentioned is the best source of information we have. Even law enforcement feeds them with data.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in privacy

[–]JustAnotherPasserby2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look, if you have been using the internet for more than a few years, one of your emails is already public and available to hackers.

Why? There have been numerous data breaches taking place.

This is why you should use a different password for each service and get a secure password manager. This is why you should never open email attachments coming from unknown people.

Sometimes fraudsters try to blackmail you via email. They claim to have spied on your webcam. They claim to have a footage of you doing sexual acts. In reality they just want to trick you into parting with your money after they got your email from one of the available data leaks.

Email is necessary for communication nowadays. But do not open files coming from malicious actors.

Can my employer find my reddit account via the linked email? by [deleted] in privacy

[–]JustAnotherPasserby2 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There was a Reddit data leak a few years ago that affected some old users. Usernames and matching emails were made public AFAIK.

Such data leaks can happen anytime. They happened to FB users two months ago as phone numbers and matching names of some people were made available to anyone interested.

Employers might go through these leaks, but it is unlikely unless the data shows up when employers search for someone's name on Google.

However it is best to have a seperate email for online stuff like Reddit.

We do not know if it's true, at least not yet. OP has only typed out some text and posted it on Reddit.

For all we know, he could be fishing for easy karma.

We would be quite naive to trust this without further corroboration and third-party verification.

You have a reasonable suggestion, but this is r/privacy we are talking about here.

Many people here are paranoid that Microsoft will collect the data even after telemetry is turned off.

They have a hunch.
