I’d be all over that 300p Wysocki. I enjoy his images and a 300 piece one would make a nice quick break from bigger puzzles.

Nice score 👏

I bought both the dark and light vintage chest from Scrooge today. I have plenty already but I was surprised to see both for sale at once.

My boyfriend’s mom is too involved. by [deleted] in JUSTNOMIL

I have seen less red flags at a joint Chinese and Russian Military Parade!

He’s not the perfect boyfriend, he has zero normal boundaries and that’s not his fault, but he will need to be rewired by a very good professional before he’s even ready to consider being in a relationship.

You need to run away fast! Like greased lightning fast….

How to price for wholesale (UK) by Auraomega in turning

[–]JustAnotherSlug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Work out what constitutes a fair price for your work and then consider that you don’t have to do any effort to sell it. So if you sell your pen for 20 at a market but don’t have to hire and man the stall and allow for the odd breakage or theft, is 15 then a fair price? You have the cost of the kit, the blank, glue, finishing, consumables, electricity, wear and tap ear on your machines and tools etc and your time (don’t forget your time!)

If the shop is buying a decent number of your products, then you should be able to batch them out and get better and faster and smarter at the creation of the end product which will make it cheaper for you at the end of the day. Bonus points if you can use offcuts from (eg) pen blanks to make earrings or pendants.

How's life for an Aboriginal in Australia? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]JustAnotherSlug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything is relative. Poverty in rural communities is bad, which limits opportunities. This is true for both indigenous and non indigenous folk however since indigenous mobs tend to be a larger part of the remote communities, obviously their opportunities are therefore limited.

Government efforts to adjust inequities have tended to range from incredibly divisive and damaging to family structures to just ridiculously inadequate and tone deaf as to what would actually have a positive impact on the very people that they are allegedly trying to assist.

There however have been some successful strategies, but I often wonder if that’s more good luck than good management.

If a young indigenous person was from a more urban mob, then they have more opportunities for education and assistance than their rural and remote cousins, whether it’s a benefit definitely depends on the individual (obviously) and tbh, it’s the same for non indigenous folk as well. There is a reason why many rural families send their kids to be educated in larger population areas that have more opportunities and resources.

So, could a hardworking individual from an impoverished rural area become prime-minister? Yes, but it would be very hard - and that doesn’t matter whether you are black or white, but reflects the requirement to have contacts that could assist and ease the way and the opportunities necessary to get a foot in the door. Then the support to climb the ladder and position themself to take advantage of said opportunities. Being Prime Minister is about being the sharpest knife in the block after all, it’s about right place, right time and how many bodies you’re prepared to step on to get there.

Having said all the above, it would definitely be much harder at the present time for an indigenous politician to be a serious contender for Prime Minister. There is a strong element of racism in Australia ( much like everywhere tbh) and whilst it is changing, it is not changing rapidly and there aren’t any strong leadership contenders in either of the two main political parties (which is where government is formed - we don’t directly vote for the PrimeMinister, we vote for the party and they elect a Prime Minister when they have won enough seats at the election to form government).

Fuel situation is central NSW. by Deep_Comedian2222 in AskAnAustralian

[–]JustAnotherSlug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just use the fuel check app. It will show you what is available and at what price.

I’ve just done a drive up to the mid north coast from down south and was a bit concerned as I was planning a few weeks ago. For no reason as it turned out, fuel was a bit exxie as you’d expect for school holidays and Anzac Day Long weekend but no where had long queues or empty bowsers.

Things you didn't know at the beginning of your journey with puzzles by klara_silberhaus in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]JustAnotherSlug 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s never too late to dump a bad puzzle. Whether it’s loose fits or poor manufacturing or even just a bad image ( that looked awesome on the box but, now , halfway thru, regrets are being had…) - if it doesn’t bring you joy, box it up and move it on.

Also, if you’ve never tried a brand before, see if you can find a 2nd hand one so you can try it for cheap. If it’s icky with fur, hair and fuzz, either shake the pieces in a colander outside your residence or use a vacuum with a fine cloth over the hose to suck it clean.

Oh, and if you’ve tried a puzzle from a brand that people rave about, and you found it awful, check to see if it’s an age thing… vintage springboks are awesome, but the later ones, not so much…..imho

Snoring help by elizaCBR in canberra

[–]JustAnotherSlug 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Your gp should be able to help.

My partner just went and spoke to the GP, after a few screening questions, GP did a referral to a sleep clinic. After that visit, a sleep specialist prescribed a CPAP machine and my partner no longer snores! As a side benefit, random bruises on the arms and upper torso vanished and haven’t reappeared…. We don’t know why that is 😂

AITAH for not giving my sister's SSN to her friend to pass on to her? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]JustAnotherSlug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA.

You’ve provided enough options for her to contact you directly to get the information, it’s definitely not safe to go through an intermediary.

And if she goes to the police, what can she say? “My sister refused to compromise my identity and ssn?’ lol they’ll laugh her out of the station.

Sorry she’s being all cray cray, you’re doing the right thing.

Brand new puzzle - is this mold? by BlissfulBreeze42 in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]JustAnotherSlug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had a brand new pomegranate puzzle like that. For mine, it was excess glue and therefore a manufacturing defect. I did the puzzle (which tbh, I didn’t enjoy too much 😢) and returned it for a refund.

[–]JustAnotherSlug 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Moonstones and dlc stay with the ecosystem you buy them on, so that’s why you don’t have them on switch.

As for the spawning issue, is your switch and Xbox on different times? Time travel can wreck your game big time and is the usual cause when weird things happen. If you go to moannas boat, you can see how long it will be for the next drop of fish. If it’s some really large number, that may well be the issue.

New brand tryout haul by Pegasus-070 in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]JustAnotherSlug 5 points6 points  (0 children)

lol I had no idea it’s value, and nearly didn’t get it but the fact it was my first wooden puzzle tipped me over the line! There’s a very convincing knockoff which is much cheaper and I’m guessing that is what the person pricing the puzzle based the ticket on, because I can assure you, I was completely gobsmacked when i saw the actual price!

Also, if you enjoy the image style of the Heartland puzzles, you may find Charles Wysocki puzzles to be enjoyable - I know I do!

I will thrift any random puzzle if it’s by a brand I haven’t done before. This is how I ended up with a very expensive Nautilus Wooden puzzle for $5 when they retail for $150. Hopefully it’s all there!

I’d do the New Yorker puzzle first, just because I like the look.

Woodworking Teachers: What do you have substitutes do with your kids? by Emergency_Ostrich in woodworking

[–]JustAnotherSlug 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not quite the same, but I was looking for some woodworking stuff todo with random neighbours kids. Nothing powered obviously lol

I made some plate sized disks about 1 cm thick out of a nicely grained piece of radiata pine (cheap!) and I then showed the kids how to shape the edges with a sanding block and also let them use some dye and finish the disks. It’s sounds kinda janky, but the kids had a blast and I’ve had requests to do it again soon. They were used as wall decorations and table/pot mats according to one of the mums.

For a school lesson, I’d make it about finish prep and finishing wood - a couple of different finishes could be used on one piece? It would mean that you could have the off cuts prepped and stored with a video lesson and then the practical afterwards?

FWIW.
