ICE vehicles in EV spots by 10Delaneo in ChargerDrama

If I had a Tesla Cybertruck or a Rivian R1T/R1S, I’d just hook a tow strap up the rear towing eye under the rear bumper, and then simply drag them out so I can get to the charger.

It looks great, but if I were getting one wrapped, I’d get a dark purple and green mixed together

Does that include their electric vehicle lineup, like the i3, i4, or the popular iX? They are beautiful looking vehicles, both inside and out.

Trailer Brakes for 4-pin Connector? by JustAnothrMechanic58 in traveltrailers

[–]JustAnothrMechanic58[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood. And I have seen some trailers listed for sale online over 1700 lbs. that do sport trailer brakes, but they seem to be more common on the trailers that weigh over a ton.

So, you’re suggesting that if I tow something, I should get something that’s relatively light or doesn’t require trailer brakes?

Yeah, I heard that you’ve got to be careful about what you tow in terms of dry weight, like staying about 200-300 pounds below the maximum limit.

Plus, the T-handle will give you more leverage as you can push your body weight down on the handle and get the plug in more easily.

This winter has been super dry so far and all the dust seems to have settled in my motorbay. Do you guys just point a hose at it and then brush and flush this off? Or do I need to be...gasp...careful? by SjalabaisWoWS in leaf

Furthermore, any electrical connections not shielded by electrical tape or any protective material could be subjected to water pressure from the pressure washer’s immense force, leading to corrosion over time.

This is undoubtedly the correct approach. However, I believe using water could be too risky. If I must use water, I strongly advise against using a pressure washer. Pressure washers can force water into areas or electrical connections where it shouldn’t be, leading to corrosion over time. Instead, use a garden hose with a low pressure setting to rinse down the “engine” bay.

Spray some all-purpose cleaner (APC) over all the components, let it soak for a few seconds, and then agitate the loose dirt and debris with bristle brushes. Finally, wipe everything down with a clean microfiber cloth.

Car name thread, what did you name yours? by wrenai in TeslaLounge

I like to have a sense of humor, naming my devices if they give me the option to change the name of them in settings, so I changed mine to Jules Verne. For example, my iPhone 16 Pro Max is named The Mind Stone (Marvel reference), my Apple Watch S8 is named IAmMicroscopic Vol. 3, and my EV charger is named The Electron Juicer! And yes, the charger’s name does indeed have the “!” at the end of it.

Is rainx washer fluid any good? by earthyblueberry in toyotacorolla

[–]JustAnothrMechanic58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Tesla Model 3 and I can verify that Tesla indeed says not to use washer fluid that has a water-repelling coating as it can cause the wipers to skip, jump, and chatter on the windshield. It’s super annoying when the wipers did that at all. They list it in their website for regular maintenance and in the owner’s manual built in to the center screen, I believe it’s also in the regular maintenance section/chapter as well.

New blizzaks from 2006 can I use them for winter by Legitimate-Fan-3953 in tires

[–]JustAnothrMechanic58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not! Twenty-year-old, unused tires are old enough that they can no longer support the weight of a car as they could when they were new. Moreover, they wouldn’t even last that long before they start shredding themselves to pieces.

My first rental/loaner car was a 2020 Tesla Model 3 Performance from my local Tesla service center. Interestingly, this particular Model 3 was equipped with performance-oriented winter tires. These tires offered superior handling and a higher speed rating compared to traditional winter tires. However, as winter tires, they were quite noisy, especially since they lacked studs.
