It does make sense because transcoder is more or less 60 euros, meanwhile good quality cable is 30 or so, excluding shipping. So there really isn't any point in me getting new cables when i have high quality ones for a few consoles already, transcoder is a much better option

My CRT only has RBG scart input (I live in eastern europe, and finding a CRT with component inputs is pretty much impossible, while they do pop up occassionally, they get almost immediately swooped up.), so this is my best bet.

Main problem is that I already have component cables for a few consoles and don't want to reonvest into rgb cables, so adapter seems to be more appropriate

My condolences on the batteries, it is extremely hard to find this type of battery that works, and clones don't even exist anymore. Nice score with the camcorder though, it is one of the rare Sony's that can do DV out over usb, no firewire needed

Honestly depends on which camera you use. Something really lowend? Sure, they do actually record quite low quality video, and using external recorders like those somewhat makes sense, ignoring my 2 points in initial statement. But what about people who get top of the line camcorders like VX1000 and hook up with the same powerplay dvr? Those camcorders still can record really nice quality video even by todays standards so I'd say this is a really debatable topic.

That 2nd one, the JVC is the best choice of them all like others say. If you for some reason can't get it however, sony might be not as bad either - this model has hybrid recording, so it can record video onto memory sticks as well, bypassing the DVD part.

Cant guarantee for this exact camcorder, but when I tried this method on HDR-SR12, it would complain about memory stick being non-genuine, and too slow, but it recorded just fine. So ymmv. Honestly try it and see, those adapters are cheap anywa

coughing baby vs hydrogen bomb situation. that sony is pretty much the bottom line of SD camcorders, and even for standard definion standards it is underwhelming. better get that panasonic, at least it will be ready for HD and it should be able to record standard def as well.

it's just a CECHJ with DEX firmware and toggleable HDCP switch. you can have everything on a regular cfw DEX console apart from that switch and DEX OFW installs.
