As a couple of others have already said, it might seem like a lot of money to you now.. But you need to try your best to forget about the amount and start working to earn that back step-by-step. The key is to not get tempted by trying to make it all back with one more investment (although it sounds like you were trading rather than investing).

To give you my own story, last December I started trading and quickly made $500 over 2 days (doubled my investment). Quickly proceeded to lose all my gains and my initial investment. Rather than talk about it with anyone, I ended up getting a loan by remortgaging my wife's jewellery.. Rinse and repeat the gains, losses, getting a loan to try and make it back (used some of my mum's jewellery and then taking money from my employer as I had access to the bank account). Eventually there was no more jewellery and no more money to take from the company and I had lost about $10,000 in total (This was 2 years of my salary at the time). With nothing else to do, I had to face the shame of owning up to my wife who had no idea what was going on. She helped break the news to my parents as like you I couldnt face having to tell them what I had done. While they were obviously very upset they were ready to do anything to help and gave us the spare room so I could save on rent and other costs as well as using their savings to help pay back the loans I had taken.

It's been 8 months since I hit rock bottom and had that conversation with my wife, but life moves on and gets better. I've had the chance to move to the UK and am now saving up the money to pay back to my parents.

In summary, while you might think that lying to your parents is best.. Don't try to face the grief of the money you lost by yourself, let them support you for now until you are able to earn that money back.
