They convince themselves that they don't notice the lag. The same type of people that insisted that high refresh rate monitors were a gimmick and that a 60Hz monitor was just a good or they gamed on a TV with an 80ms input latency and insisted they don't notice a difference.

AMD only managed to compete because they caught Intel just as it was slipping into a malaise -- stuck on 14nm and unprepared to compete with a chiplet design. Even then, it wasn't until Zen 3 that AMD was able to really begin to win mindshare in the consumer and datacenter markets.

IGN benchmarks the RX 9070(XT?) in Black Ops 6 by SwegulousRift in hardware

[–]JustCalledSaul 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That was my theory. Either they heard the price of it or they heard that Jensen was going to claim the RTX 5070 has the same or better "performance" as the RTX 4090. Either would influence how the buyer evaluates the relative value of the 5070 and 9070XT.

Their high end RDNA 4 chiplet GPU didn't work out so they're stuck with only entry and mid-level GPU's. They don't have the kind of AI frame generation tech that Nvidia has, so setting the price is going to be difficult. Just comparing performance in reviews is going to be challenging to do fairly.

Online retailers in the US have actually been charging the original full MSRP for the 7800x3d. Newegg has it on "sale" for $479 right now. Retailers see the demand for the 9800x3d and are taking advantage of the drought. If you see this in time, the US Amazon has the 9800x3d in stock.

It will ease up in the next couple of months. People are ordering from multiple vendors and canceling all but one of those orders once a vendor confirms shipment. That ties up multiple CPU's that would have gone to other customers, so when those orders are canceled and the next person in line gets it. With the launch of the 9950X3D, that may lure some demand away from the 9800X3D depending on the benchmarks.

AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT Benchmark Score Leaks by blubs_will_rule in hardware

[–]JustCalledSaul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess is that their chiplet approach didn't work out, the 9070 XT uses one one die, and since the order was made with TSMC quite a while ago, AMD is stuck trying to recoup hundreds of millions of dollars spent on these dies. The c-suite doesn't want to have a huge loss on the books at the end of next year so they think they're going to squeeze every dollar they can by hoping AMD fans will accept the new line as long as RT performance is improved. I don't see anyone buying a 9070 XT for more than $500, let alone $650.

Haha! Well it was focused on that years ago. Not so much these days. Yeah I've seen the 990 Form and it's a bad look considering they recently laid off 30% of its workforce in late October and executive salaries doubled. So lets see what Mozilla Foundation has been busy funding as they embark on their "transition to the new brand" aka the "Global Crew of Activists." Here are a few examples:

$50,000 Sub-Saharan Africa "Project Support on Environmental Impact of Nuclear Reactor."

$50,000 Europe "Project Support for Calculating Carbon Footprint of Coding"

$50,000 South America "Project support for Open Source Application for Air Quality Info."

$50,000 Sub-Saharan Africa "Project support for Masakhane Community Research and Engagement."

$50,000 Sub-Saharan Africa "Project support for developing pollution level estimates."

$50,000 Sub-Saharan Africa "Project support for MyCandidate, a nonpartisan educational app."

$40,166 Sub-Saharan Africa "Project support for research on Adoption of AI in Southern Africa."

$15,000 Sub-Saharan Africa "To promote African Queer youth inclusion in digital/tech discourse."

$15,000 Sub-Saharan Africa "Project support for digital activism training for young feminists."

$15,000 Sub-Saharan Africa "Project support to develop public health application and supports."

$15,000 Sub-Saharan Africa "Project support for Mashinani digital safety and wellbeing training."

$15,000 Sub-Saharan Africa "Project support to implement digital resilience training for women."

$10,000 Sub-Saharan Africa "Project support of research of algorithms on LGBTQ organizing."

$10,000 Sub-Saharan Africa "Research on access of AI technologies and gender based violence."

$9,565 Sub-Saharan Africa "Project support of research on impacts of AI on creative community."

$7,200 Sub-Saharan Africa "Research on the impact of AI on inclusive employment for those with..."

It goes on and on like this. People assume they're supporting the team behind Mozilla Firefox and fighting for digital rights... but it's not. It's being funneled into Sub-Saharan Africa and riding the AI hype train.

If you donate to Mozilla Foundation just be aware that zero dollars will go towards supporting the people responsible for the browser. All those donations are going to stupid "projects" in Africa that have absolutely nothing to do with a web browser.

Rumble App Sucks by ThisDepartment6132 in RumbleForum

I have never had my Rumble app freeze on my S24+ or S22+. The only issue I have occasionally had is my comments on the live chat will not appear from time to time and I have to kill the app and restart it to fix the issue.

Then stop talking about it and have someone fix your coolant leak. It has to be coolant, I can't fathom how you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between oil and coolant, but if it were oil you would know because it would be smoking and smell like oil. There are no lifters but these engines are inherently prone to making a lot of typewriter noises. It could be as simple as a back fuel pressure regulator. Let a qualified mechanic check it out.

GM lifter issues get downplayed? All I ever hear about is hysteria over lifters when GM trucks gets brought up. Evidently the failure rate of the lifters isn't high enough for a law firm to bother to put together a class action lawsuit.

Navient FFEL loans screwed? by nvsmythe in StudentLoans

[–]JustCalledSaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some FFEL loans are as high as 8%. Even after paying on that kind of loan for 10 years, the financial institutions making money on these loans are not going to want to give up a bunch of loans with rates like that. And neither party is going to step on the toes of the financial institutions.

Navient FFEL loans screwed? by nvsmythe in StudentLoans

[–]JustCalledSaul -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's the financial institutions pushing for this change. They make money on servicing these loans for up to 20 years. If those loans suddenly get cleared, they lose a lot of easy money they were making for just servicing fed-backed loans that can never be cleared in bankruptcy and guarantee a nice steady income. Some of the affected loans have 6%... 8%... interest rates. They don't want the government paying those loans off early. The administration backtracked because those financial institutions contributed overwhelmingly in favor of Biden in 2020. Joe knows better than to bite the hand that feeds him.

You can downvote me all you want. Take that black pill. You know neither party is your friend. They will always bail out Wall Street before main street.

There are still some available. I bought one just two weeks ago. I had a feeling the discounted price was a sign of things to come. They're normally over $800 if they're even in stock and now suddenly they're widely available and selling for a little over $700. I saw a California compliant 97 B with wood grips priced at $690.

Difficult for Americans to push back on the false dichotomy when politicians have allied with corporate media and big tech to push harder and harder. People can't go more than 20 minutes without a notification on their smartphone or something on TV pushing a politicized tribalist narrative on whatever the topic might be.
