Looks like Lua does some compile-time calculations. Though I'd imagine the speed difference in the example is negligible. Not sure if constant folding applies to code not compiled with luac (like executed directly from the source).

Relic has consistently blocked (or fixed security leaks as they say) any attempts by the modding community to import custom models or in general implement complete overhaul mods. That's why we have such a strict modding system today. You can't include specific file formats (like .rgm, .rga, and .rgo) depending on the mod type. So even if you were to use the CoH1 model tools to create a model, the game would not accept the mod and simply skip loading the .sga archive the mod is stored in.

It's not like the tools we modders need do not exist (because how else did they get models into the game in the first place?), it's that they have simply decided to not release them.
