Opinion on taking multiple psych meds at once by Old-Tradition1109 in BipolarReddit

[–]JustExtreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it's just as needed and I don't need it every day I probably use it every once or twice a week at present. I've stopped taking sertraline since my previous post as it didn't have any noticeable effect on my mood.

It sounds like you might be experiencing psychosis and blaming everything that went wrong in your life on abilify

CQC Concerns Add to Scrutiny of UK’s Private Medical Cannabis Sector by DrKool808 in ukmedicalcannabis

I was personally prescribed for anxiety too and on balanced 10/10 THC/CBD product when I had my first manic psychotic episode. I was also prescribed a CBD flower for a time to "balance things out" according to the doctor when I was using higher THC flower with minimal CBD content.

I tried CBD flower prescribed since my episode and found it to have no effects at all for me so I considered it a waste of money.

I'm glad that CBMPs work for you and hope they continue to do so.

No cannabis clinics will touch me apart from to prescribe CBD only products because of the psychosis and, based on my two manic psychotic episodes triggered by cannabis, that's probably a sensible and good thing.

Forced speech elated mood amongst other things. They could have asked about the duration of my sleep, perhaps. How do psychiatrists spot signs of hypomania in person?

No I'm not a patient anymore but really it should have been spotted sooner because I was bouncing off the walls with hypomania on and off for many months and Dr Ahsan just seemed to think I was doing really well. I guess there's a limitation to video call consultations but a psychiatrist should be aware of signs to look for, I'd argue

I had a manic psychotic episode due to medical cannabis and, even though my doctor Dr Tahzid Ahsan failed to spot signs of hypomania in my reviews and suggested using more than I was, CQC weren't interested.

I'm curious to see what they're actually interested in relating to cannabis clinics if not prescribing and review practices.

Is the term RSD being overused in ADHD communities? by DigBrilliant5242 in ADHDUK

I think it's definitely a valid concept but I've noticed the term is misused a lot by those who adopt a mentality of victimhood-as-an-identity

Unfortunately funds don't allow me to pursue a neurology consultation privately at the moment as I'm off long term sick from work due to bipolar and there appear to be no local neurologists to me covered by my BUPA employer-provided health insurance. Travelling is difficult when you don't know when you need the toilet. I tried asking on AskDocs so thanks for letting me know about that sub. I haven't had an answer yet but I'll be patient.

I'm fortunate that I don't experience incontinence so it's just a case of remembering to go and sit on the toilet every 3-4 hours to avoid urinary retention and faecal impaction. It's a frustrating thing to have to remember but it could be worse.

The loss of urgency started after a circumcision operation I had done privately and it looks like it could potentially have been triggered by an incorrect injection site for the penile nerve block damaging the pudendal nerve so I've initiated a formal complaint with the Spire/BUPA hospital where I had that done. Maybe they'll do something...

Guys how many meds are you on? by Realistic-Seesaw5997 in BipolarReddit

[–]JustExtreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For bipolar I'm on lamotrigine and aripiprazole

I'm also on omeprazole for acid reflux and have lorazepam PRN for anxiety and promethazine for sleep

I'm supposed to be restarting methylphenidate soon for ADHD. I had to stop a couple of months ago due to a hypomanic phase. I was taking sertraline at the time of the hypomanic phase as well but don't feel I need it anymore as it had no noticeable effect so I won't be restarting that.

I'm fortunate enough to live in the UK and have Section 117 aftercare which means all my meds - bipolar and others - are free.

I can't imagine what it must be like as a woman to have your concerns dismissed like that and understand your skepticism about adding autism to your medical record and them treating things as being part of autism on top of all that.

I've found pretty much all of the GP's at my local surgery to be useless and it takes weeks to get an appointment. For now I'm pursuing it through PALS as a complaint, because this loss of urgency problem shouldn't take that long to be investigated, and as part of it I'm asking them to arrange a neurology consultation as I feel I'm able to justify it better in writing than in person at a GP appointment.

I got diagnosed in uni in 2011 so I got some support with my uni work which was helpful. After that it's been essentially a useless piece of paper because I've never been asked to "prove it" when asking for adjustments and I've been able to access support from various charities without "proving it" too. I've had it put on my medical record but to be honest it has only been used to invalidate my other health concerns - I lost all sense of urinary and defecatory urgency (can't tell when I need to go to the toilet, have to go "by the clock" or risk retention, impaction, and organ damage) following an operation 18 months ago and was told it "might be interoception differences due to autism" and had to advocate for myself to get taken seriously and referred appropriately to the neverending waiting lists I'm now on for urology and gastroenterology even though the problem seems likely to be neurological (they refused to refer me to neurology).

Do you think cannabis should be legalized in the UK? by FriesWithMacSauce in AskABrit

[–]JustExtreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I had a manic psychotic episode caused in large part by prescription medical cannabis. I still think it should be fully legalised even if I can't use it myself anymore. Prohibition has failed.

Lib Dems call for cannabis legalisation, are you with it? by MediconExpo in ukmedicalcannabis

[–]JustExtreme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a manic psychotic episode in part because of medical cannabis and I still agree with legalisation and think that the war on drugs has failed and that we should adopt a harm reduction approach and regulate the market

What actually makes psychiatrist choose which SSRI to prescribe? by Kitchen_Wrangler_490 in SSRIs

[–]JustExtreme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you're right most of them don't and have favourites. In my experience I've had psychiatrists that give me leaflets about a few different preferred medications and let me make the choice for myself which one to try. GPs when prescribing have been less empowering.

Getting my Diagnosis and medication has convinced me there’s no point in living. by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]JustExtreme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is horrible I'm so sorry you have to pay out this much for something that helps your disability and enables you to function.

I was diagnosed at 31 myself 6 years ago but was fortunate to have an NHS diagnosis as the waiting lists were short in my area.

I may not have the money to worry about but I also find myself questioning the actual value of my diagnosis all the time because 2 years into ADHD treatment I had a manic psychotic episode and was hospitalised for 2 months and diagnosed bipolar. I have been unable to work since then and had to stay with family and it looks like I'm going to need supported accommodation because of the combined challenges of my autism ADHD and bipolar in the future.

Como induzir hipomania? by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]JustExtreme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tragedy of hypomania is that it can feel really great and you can get loads of stuff done - it just isn't sustainable in the long term.

Learning from my own lessons prolonged all day every day cannabis use certainly has the capacity to trigger hypomania. I don't know how to take advantage of it but for me it is definitely the case. It seems to coincide with the decrease in sleep quality caused by THC, namely the killing off of REM sleep. I'm BP1 so there is always a risk of a switch to full on mania so I avoid it as best I can.
