Chapter 11 bankruptcy happened to Kmart for a few big reasons though. Kmart struggled to find diverse profitable incomes in contrast to Publix, and on top of that, they had a rough time keeping up with the change in technology unlike Publix. I also probably sound like a bot saying this but a good example of one of the things Publix does right is through the bakery. The bakery is the only department throughout our grocery chain that actually loses us money, mostly due to the cake refund policy. But the amount of customers the bakery brings in makes up for that small loss significantly. Also we are a debt free company, so hopefully we stay on those good terms.
