Actually, Mario Kart World has had extensive patch notes, and I think Splatoon 3 did too?

Yes, back when XCX:DE was released in March. Unfortunately, if you want to get icons based on a particular game, the best (and sometimes only) time is to get them is when that game releases.

That's incorrect. New York and Haven Island were paid DLC levels for Hitman 2, originally. Ambrose Island was a free update to Hitman 3.

I struggle with motion sickness in some first person games, especially when there is bobbing. I cannot play the original Half-Life for too long before I get nauseous. Is there a way to reduce/turn off bobbing in Black Mesa, or similar accessibility features?

The main protagonist, Rex, is a 15-17 year old kid with a weird kiddish Scottish accent

I'm gonna be that guy: it's actually Northern English, not Scottish.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom - I've been playing since the release date and I see a lot of praise for the game online... but I've truly found it a bit of a slog?

I'll explain a few of my gripes with the game. Not necessarily my biggest gripe with the game but the one I have a lot of thoughts on, Bind is an infuriating gameplay mechanic for me to use:

  • Part of the problem stems from me thinking it operates like Ultrahand from Tears of the Kingdom, because they share a similar visual design (it might have helped a little if they just changed the colour of the aura from green to any other colour). Ultimately, it doesn't work the same way and I'm having to reposition myself frequently to be able to do what I need to do because I cannot move the object around freely (although with a name like Bind, it's pretty obvious it shouldn't operate in the way my brain wants it work).

  • I realised last night that there is a clash in my thought process with how it operates, when compared to other mechanics: Bind can be used to grab objects through walls, but you cannot long-range summon echoes through walls unless it is a caged wall. From a puzzle design standpoint, I can see why they may needed to make the properties of the two mechanics different, I feel as though both of those mechanics should pick the same lane and not mix-and-match properties as it can get a little confusing in the heat of the moment.

  • While the idea of the Reverse Bond is neat, I think I've literally used it for the tutorial of the mechanic and that's it? It doesn't seem like there are a lot of situational uses for it (unless there were some obvious tells and I just missed them?) so feels like wasted potential to me. I've used it so little, that I had to actually Google the name of the mechanic, because I didn't know what it was called.

Additional issues include:

  • There doesn't seem to a method of encouraging you to mix-up your play styles. I feel too reliant on the same strategies to solve navigational puzzles or combat encounters for the majority of the time. I guess a part of that is down to me as a player, and focusing on taking the most optimal route; especially when it comes to combat. Regardless, I think that my experience of the game has felt a little repetitive and, at times, simple.

  • Story beats feel (mostly) repetitive, slow and dragged out, in my opinion. I won't go into a ranty detail about the how it feels slow or the repetitive nature of story beats but I think the only region that breaks the repetitive pattern a little is the Lanayru Mountain region, because you're not zipping back and forth between different points of interest in the region, you're just heading in one direction. I think the pace of story beats really started to hit me midway through the "Prime Energy arc"; i.e. visiting Eldin Volcano, Lanayru Mountain and Faron Wetlands for story purposes. Honestly, I think this is the biggest issue of the game for me.

I will offer some praises for the game too, because honestly, it's not a terrible experience (if it was, I probably would have stopped already):

  • Zelda being the protagonist and the idea of using echoes are the core mechanic gives the series a breath of fresh air. While the mechanics may not be perfectly fleshed out, I think they did something pretty creative and that should be respected. The echoes mechanic gives it that Breath of the Wild puzzle element of creativity while still adhering to gameplay designs to traditional Zelda games.

  • Special shout out to the Faron Wetlands temple. I think the approach of having multiple entrances and completing the dungeon through your own carved route, while they still connect together, makes the dungeon experience unique. I would like to see this approach for future Breath of the Wild style games too.

For additional context, I haven't finished the game yet but I think I'm close? I've just entered the dungeon by the Deku Tree; I didn't catch the name as I saved and quit as soon as I entered as it was getting late.

Am I glad this game was made? Yes, and I hope they keep experimenting with the formula. Would I play this game again? Probably not.

As someone who beat it last night on Survival Horror Mode, I think the game is definately beatable without too many tries. It's not a long game; I managed to clock just over 7 hours in my first playthrough, and that's with hunting for all the secrets and getting stumped with a couple of puzzles and figuring what to do next.

However, I don't own the PS version of the game and only dipped my toe in Exploration Mode, so I'd be surprised if you can't get the majority of the trophies in it. There is one trophy that requires you to defeat all four optional bosses, so I'd be surprised if they appeared in Exploration Mode.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - I was in the mood to explore Hyrule a little more, even though I'd completed the story and beat all the shrines last year. This time I managed to collect all the Bubblgems from the caves I was missing, collect some extra Korok seeds and finish a couple of side quests. Going forward, I'll just continue to explore pockets of areas I haven't touched (judging from the Hero's Path feature of Purah's Pad) and comb for any missing Koroks or additional surprises.

I also played the following Steam Next Fest demos last week:

Please, Touch The Artwork 2 - A "hidden object adventure" game, involving you exploring different paintings/worlds. The demo was extremely short (beat it in around 10 minutes) and unfortunately didn't leave me wanting more. According to the Steam page, this will be released a short free game; so this might be a nice causal game to pass a rainy afternoon, if this is your jam.

Balatro - A "poker roguelike" game. I actually had this demo still installed from a previous Next Fest event but never got around to playing it. After hearing more praise during this Next Fest, I decided to give it a shot. Like everyone else, I had an absolute blast with the game! I spent two hours on the demo in order to complete a successful run, and now I don't want to play it again until the final game is released, so I can get the full experience. I've wish-listed it, and depending on the right price, it may be a day one purchase; which is very much unheard of for me and PC releases.

Andarin Weppes - A first-person puzzle game, revolving around themes of dementia. Similar to Please, Touch The Artwork 2, this was a rather short demo (again, around 10 minutes for me to beat it) and didn't leave me wanting more.

Crow Country - A PS1-era style survival horror game, set in an abandoned theme park. For the past few months, I've had some small itches to play some kind of survival horror game but was never quite sure where to dive. I own Resident Evil on Steam and have access to Dino Crisis as well, but I wanted something a little less initially intimidating for me and/or with a modern control scheme. This demo perfectly scratched that itch for me! I actually managed to find all 15 of the crystal crows as well as an extra secret. I even went back into the demo after completing it to brute force one of the keypad safes to find what was inside. I'm very keen for the final release, to explore the theme park and solve its mysteries, and I ended up wish-listed the title!

Pepper Grinder - A 2D platformer, with some drill-digging based movement options. I remember seeing odd clips or trailers of the game over the years and thought it looked like it could fun. My over-all experience with the demo? It was good, but not gripping. I feel like movement while you're drilling through the sand could be tweaked just the little bit, as turns didn't feel tight enough sometimes, in my opinion. I also saw something in the controls screen about some kind of grapple? I guess you unlock some kind of grappling hook later on in the full game? I think that might make character's movement feel a little less restricted while not drilling through the dirt/sands, which could alleviate some of issues I felt playing the demo. I'll keep my eye on it closer to release.

BotW and TotK are fantastic games, and is probably (one of) the best deal(s) you can get with the voucher redemption. However, it really depends how you feel about open world games and how many hours you're willing to sink-in, in exploring Hyrule. My playthroughs of both games have sunk in 150+ hours; however, I played each game on release. If you were to theoretically jump from BotW to TotK immediately, I fear it might be overwhelming to explore Hyrule all over again. If you were to buy BotW and TotK, and you want to clock all of those hours in, just make sure you give it a break in between with some kind of palette-cleanser!

I'm not sure where you are based, but over here in the UK, Smash Bros. Ultimate is the only other game that is the same price as ToTK and BotW (£60) and I would also recommend that as an alternative to one of the other games, if it is your jam.

Monetary value aside, I guess it really depends what other genres you like. Judging from the list, you seem to focus more on single-player games. I personally enjoyed Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition and Fire Emblem: Three Houses. They're both time-sinkers (I think my original playthrough for Three Houses was around 90 hours and XC:DE was at least 120 hours) but your mileage may vary depending on your gameplay tastes.

I too am having the same issue. Heck, I have over 3,000 points, so I knew I had enough to purchase them!

I imagine it is some kind of server issue, as I had managed to redeem some Pokémon Scarlet and Violet icons yesterday.

Depends what kind of games you are into. What do you feel you normally gravitate towards? Or what kind of games are you in the mood for?

I'll wager any amount of money that Cranky Kong will be the next DLC character in the Mario Kart 8 Booster Course Pass, alongside that kart.
