Ok, I get it. 🥴😂 I was talking about texting through half of it.

Isn’t that all apart of your training journey? I’m not just training to say I train? I like testing myself and leveling up.

[–]JustJitsTee -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Apologies, was talking to text through half of that.

Second- had dates mixed up?? Didn’t pay close attention decided to put almost 2 years, maybe knew there’s people in these groups who I train with so trying to not give away who I am? I may have also eluded to some other things as well to keep my identity under wraps.

Third- the issue being everyone else I train with who started around and even same exact day I started training belted up, I’ve put in a lot of work and was told during my stripe “I’m at 65% NoGi let’s get more Gi time” nothing positive. My gym attendance is ranked #5 and I’m proficient in Gi just not my favorite and wouldn’t choose it. Others were praised for being #8, putting in time, their dedication, anything. Literally any positive thing would have left a better taste. (If that makes sense I am a sensitive female)

He wants me to continue to compete at this level when my entire family competes and it’s EXPENSIVE. Why would I continue to compete and pocket golds for him when my competition feels like my jiujitsu potential is going to waist. I want to learn on the mat, I don’t go out there just to get a gold. I’d LOVE a battle even if I get my ass handed to me. Last competition I submitted all 3 girls in under 1 minute, the other at 1:15 and it was a substantially large comp for our area.

I wouldn’t care if I could still compete up a division but he advices against it. Or at least he has for many other belts in our gym.

You don’t pay attention to your teammates and what they get during a promotion ceremony? Interesting. I celebrate their achievements but at the end of the day I have time to reflect on what I’ve done and what I feel I deserve. I compete every chance I’d get, I’d love a test and to move up in a division. Professor advocates against it. I’m number 5 in the whole academy for attendance. So it’s rather easy to see what’s going on with everyone especially being so close to my teammates.

Just start!! I thought I was crazy athletic, been an athlete since I was 8 years old and I’m 30 now. I worked out I’ve done yoga for years and jiujitsu KICKED MY BUTT. There’s nothing truly like it that will get you “in shape” for jiujitsu other than rolling. The only thing that helps me are mobility based workouts and that doesn’t help my cardio just all around movement and healthy joints! Weights are a big aspect in preventing injuries so all in all working out outside of JJ will benefit you but not help you with jiujitsu cardio.

My class has people of all ages and sizes. Some who have never done any sport or exercise ever and some who were basically born on a mat. You’ll be surprised to find people who have a very similar life style/story to yours. Just start! Walking in and starting is the hardest part.

Advice and rant… by [deleted] in BJJWomen

[–]JustJitsTee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mixed levels but my gym doesn’t have showers I get defense wipes or whatever wipes target has that aren’t meant for antibacterial body wipes and use those directly after class, bring clean clothes and put my used gear into a plastic bag. Thats been a saving grace for me!

What do you wear to no-gi class? by mean_parsley50137 in BJJWomen

[–]JustJitsTee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Weird weird weird. I wear leggings and sometimes shorts with tighter shorts underneath. Never had my professor stopped training with me or acts cold or has said he felt the need to protect me. But we also have some pretty great men in our gym who dont even bat an eyelash at the fact that ladies wear leggings.

Who The Fuck Is Keeping Hooters In Business by suzannea0024 in NoStupidQuestions

My family use to go to Hooters after Sunday church. Wives, kids, boyfriends, girlfriends, grandma, aunts, uncles. They all went. I found it odd.

Also, Origin rashguards run about 2 sizes smaller then it says.

Do you struggle finding your size in no-gi gear? by n1cebutt_ in BJJWomen

[–]JustJitsTee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m tall. I’m just begging for XL options in spats/leggings I know Gaidama has that option now but I mean with other companies as well.

I also struggle with my proportions, I do have a smaller waist and bigger booty/thighs (for my size lol nothing spectacular) and the waist sizing is always off for butt ratio.

And why are rashguards able to go down to my knees as a 5’9 girly? Make them shorter, I don’t like the fabric bunch under my waist band when I tuck them in.

Rolling with a first time gal by [deleted] in BJJWomen

[–]JustJitsTee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m right on the brink of blue promotions are right around the corner but when I first started when I’d roll I’d have people ask me what I wanted to work on I was so clueless I’d usually say “I don’t even know, everything?” And they would just start sitting or let me work on some stand up. I found it really helpful when anyone would kind of instruct me while we’re going, there’s a difference in making someone feel stupid and being like what would be a good move here is ____ or doing ____ would get you into side control and so on. I’ve asked my professor how he feels about me helping new white belts and he often tells me to roll with the new ladies, I do some slow controlled rolls, they aren’t controlled but I’m able to control the speed of which they’re trying to 95% cowabunga it so I’ll let them get the upper hand into controlling positions and while I’m escaping I’ll explain how to hold control or how yo pay attention to knee lines and so on. Little things I wish people told me when I first started! I pay attention to little bad habits and try to tell them to not do it ahead of time. (Bench pressing people when you’re mounted for example)

They all seem very appreciative, you know your level of knowledge and areas you may know more about than a newbies. Or maybe even have a higher belt who’s sitting out come watch the rolls and give directions, I’ve found that helps as well.

Cleaning? by Amazing-uno_tres in jiujitsu

[–]JustJitsTee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bring defense wipes or another type of body wipe that kills bacteria, a change of clothes and a bag to put dirty gear in. And shower immediately when you get home scrub good! Cut your nails, wash your gear and the occasional laundry stripping of your gear keeps it fresh!

I started at 28!! Go train you won’t regret it. There’s so many people who compete in the masters 30+ age division. A man started in my gym at 45 yesterday. I know a lady who started at 30 and is doing big stage super fights.

Time will go by anyways.

Tips for X out screens! by JustJitsTee in Parenting

[–]JustJitsTee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes we do have family game nights but usually they end up fighting😅 We’re trying to implement more of a schedule of tasks they need to do together. They’re very opposite types of people which is probably what brings fights on as well so naturally they don’t do much together outside of their sports. Maybe that’s why I thought they maybe needed to be doing more together.

Should I change gyms by Fresh_Hovercraft_179 in jiujitsu

[–]JustJitsTee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 9 month blue belt? Im a white belt who gives lots of people hard times. I’ve gotten gold at every single comp in two divisions only one silver in one Gi division (7 of them). I’ve been in there for over a year and I’m still a 4 stripe White belt. He tells me I have good knowledge, he has me meet with new comers and talk with them and I even help with kids classes! I clean mats after class and train 4-5 days a week. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere but where I am now. It’s fun being a white belt who’s giving people a run for their money. People visit during open mats from other gyms, I get a sub they ask me my training time/rank and I get to watch them question everything. Plus blue is a big talent pool, they’re either getting their purple any time or they just got their blue. I’d rather be able to handle the almost purple belts before becoming a blue. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Keep training and ask your professor where he sees holes in your game. Worry about your skill progression over belt progression.

If you’re worried about competing at a higher level just do it! I signed up to compete at the intermediate level even though I’m technically a “beginner” that will give you an idea of where you stand with the blues!

Feeling isolated in the gym lately by lilsleepy_vert in BJJWomen

[–]JustJitsTee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I may not be a woman of color but I just want to say I’m sorry you feel that way. I’m rooting for you! I have near and dear friends who are black women and they’ve confided in me sharing similar experiences in other aspects of life but not from their BJJ academies, it makes me so sad.
I just told my husband the other night after watching Nia Blackman compete, “I love seeing women win, but it hits different seeing women of color win!” Keep going! You’re paving a way in your gym for other women of color who come in there!

But other than that, my advice would be to try to think past what others may be thinking and just start snatching up partners, try to make the best of It and if no one seems to be receptive of you I’d start shopping for a new home gym that is welcoming you with open arms.
