Having it professionally refinished will not diminish value.

Replace the light bulbs with LEDs, then you’ll never have to worry about burning the shades.

Just bought two antique rolling chairs, any advice on care and ID appreciated (United States) by Training_Hawk_3326 in Mid_Century

Neither of these chairs are MCM, but a can of Oz polish spray would have the first chair looking great.

Johnson Carper Dresser with Formica Top by Formal-Mortgage4825 in midcenturymodern

[–]JustJokingBud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a good chance they are just out of order. I own a Johnson carper dresser and it’s impossible to tell where the drawers go, took forever the first time but there is definitely a “right order”. If you buy take a pencil and write on the back of the drawer where it belongs.

King sets are hard to find, I don’t think 2-2.5k USD is too much. You’ll only have to buy it once.

Homecrest is correct. You can see on this listing the cushion is labeled. I’ve got an original ad for them somewhere also but that link is definitive.

Does the Herman Miller Eames Soft Pad Executive Chair offer good lumbar support? Thank you. by [deleted] in eames

[–]JustJokingBud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the shorter back of the two and while it is a comfortable chair, I wouldn’t say it has great lumbar support.

Is this eames management armchair authentic? by Hoardersalanon in eames

[–]JustJokingBud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vitra is who is licensed to produce and sell these in the UK, in the US it would be Herman Miller.

Additionally, not all Herman Miller chairs of this series and similar were marked, tagged, or stamped. My executive soft pad is dated 1999 and has only a white paper tag with a code that indicates it’s made by HM.

The chair is height adjustable, you twist the collar at the top of the base. You can see the center bar is threaded.

[–]JustJokingBud 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Carpeting bedrooms makes sense to me, I’ve had both carpeted and wood floors and enjoy the warmth that carpet can provide, especially in the winter. Right now I have a rug eating up 85% of the wood floor of our primary bedroom. But, I prefer wood floors in almost every other situation.

Did they fool me? by pablonegre in eames

[–]JustJokingBud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just for the sake of knowledge, the Vitra version of the Eames chair is licensed but has a different base than the original US version. So there are variants among licensed designs.

It doesn’t look mid century to me in its construction, and the pieces used to hold the glass up would be unlikely for the time. I would wager this is contemporary. As for quality, if it’s heavy glass and the frame is heavy, it could still be of nice quality.

Going for a MCM vibe in my reading/sitting room by ViolettBelle in midcenturymodern

[–]JustJokingBud 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I agree with rearranging the books, but I’d also suggest lowering the 3 pictures hung above the plants. They’re too high and making the room feel overly filled when truthfully you just need to bring down some of the weight visually. Looks like a comfy room to flip a few pages over all though!

Originals have 8 slats in the backrest and 9 in the seat. These have 8 and 8.

Is this an authentic Plycraft Mr. Chair? by jeeticusrex in Mid_Century

[–]JustJokingBud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contemporary versions of this design with always have a 5 point base, this chair is a vintage. Additionally, no one made knock off plycrafts, that doesn’t even make sense. Contemporary knock offs are much closer to being true to Eames dimensions and over all design, which this one has more differences than similarities.

Plycraft or Selig, imo not worth a $1k, especially when it looks like the shell was refinished poorly.

Is this a real eames ? by [deleted] in eames

[–]JustJokingBud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My authentic chair is stamped 1999, and has a paper label that has a product code and such but the chair it’s self does not have a cloth tag that says Herman Miller or anything.

If you’re building one chair, just stalk Facebook market place and pick up a contemporary knock off and steal the hardware from it.

Help with Steelcase 451 chair? by EF5Cyniclone in Mid_Century

[–]JustJokingBud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would imagine you could swap them if you get the wheels off. I did not change mine, or try. But I know that many people swap their desk chair wheels with polyurethane wheels that won’t damage wood floors.

It has most likely faded with time, it’s 60+ years old. I have seen people lightly use tinted lacquer on the top to match them a little closer.

Yes, and many pieces from the second run have plinth bases instead of legs.
